  • good result and 3 points, but it was one of the weaker sides in this league on paper, so wont get too carried away, in my head i would be happy with 9/10 points from our opening 4 league games.

the team seems stable - all views are from clips watched and reports read.

    roll on Plymouth Saturday.

Rovers did finish 6 points above us last season (even if we hammered them twice) so they're unlikely to be strugglers near the bottom
    IF we have improved as much as we believe we have, not trying to put a dampener on a win just think there needs to be a bit of perspective, also don't think they will be strugglers but when we play the likes of;

    scunthorpe
    fleetwood
    pompey
    blackburn
    bradford

that's when we will tell how far we have progressed, still 135 points to play for.

Although you can't see in that clip I can't see that Pearce spat on their "injured" gnome as either he would have reacted or one of their other players would have seen. He probably just shouted cheat at him or one of the words off this list.... http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/78729/finally-every-british-swear-word-categorised-and-ranked#latest

You can clearly see he gobbed on him, he snorts it up before doing so.

Let's not get too carried away, as the season's only one match old.

Was thinking of getting season tickets near the tunnel... but a couple of questions ...
On the cafc website, when you select your seats, are the seats in the top or the bottom of the diagram facing the pitch? (I can't remember as far back as last year!)
Also, I don't suppose 'under 11' actually means '11 and under' does it?

The top of the seat diagram is closest to the pitch ie row A is the front row.

If you do buy a season ticket you can get a reduction if you produce Saturdays match day tickets.

I think the rule is that you must be Under 11 at the beginning of the season.

Really I saw that he snorts, but I need ultraHD to see if he does spit and the trajectory of the spit.....maybe we could get Gary N to do a bit of work on it with his toys on MNF.

The gasholes are screaming about the spitting incident on FB. Looking at the video a brizzle fan posted its not clear cut that he spat directly at the player on the floor. Its deffo not the classic type of thing where two players are squaring up and one of them gobs on the other looking straight at them.

He was also surrounded by players who didnt react at all. Unfortunately it is in the general direction of the player and the context of doing it that close to a player on the floor. If it was on purpose hes a lucky man and we could have been down to 9 men.

I haven't heard any mention of this from either the Bristol Rovers players or manager, I highly doubt the Football League will investigate random complaints to their website from supporters of a team that lost at the weekend.

I havent seen it mentioned either by any official press type places. The players near it probably didnt react because they could see Pearce walking away looking in a different direction when he supposedly did it.

Was suffering from a bad cold apparently - had mislaid his hankie...
  • Bottom line is that Rovers lost against ten men. There was no reaction from the referee, the player concerned or the rest of the Rovers team over an alleged spitting incident. They should move on - end of.

Yup. Confirms my view that he pushed the ball outwards and on to the post and explains why he did notjust hold onto it.

Can someone send it onto their manager? May cheer him up to know that guess work did not play a part and they lost fair and square.

I am also somewhat amazed that the player who fouled Novak before he fouled the Rovers prima donna and then went to try and assault Novak didn't get at least a booking.

More karma for Grant Basey and Kelly Youga.

Robinson is deluded when he says Saturday's performance was “one for the fans”. As fans we demand attacking football to quicken the pulse and stir the blood, but instead witnessed a backs-to-the-wall defensive siege for 80 minutes, caused partly by his abandonment of a striker altogether in a bizarre 4-5-0 formation.

Let's face it: we were shite. Our midfield players are so vulnerable that at the slightest hint of pressure they retreat to cower alongside the fragile defence. There was simply no outlet for clearances, which merely invited Bristol Rovers to mount attack after attack. With better finishing they could have won 1-3, which would have been a fair result.

We are going to come up against far stronger opposition than The Pirates this season. Two strikers would give opposing defences something to worry about. I welcome the appointment of Lee Bowyer if he instils some urgently-needed bottle and fight. Pun intended. We have got to dispel our deserved reputation as a soft touch, a bunch of powder-puffs.

Sieges must usually end up in draws where you're from... We ground out a win, was it deserved? Only if we scored more than them... Exactly what we (most likely) did.

  • Amos: one decent stop with his legs but looked proper shaky for most of the match, big improvement required swiftly
    Solly: decent
DaSilva: really very good we'll be lucky to keep him all season
    Bauer: decent
Pearce: decent experienced performance but he doesn't look fit
Kashi: peerless in application, skill, vision, control, he's so far above this division he can comfortably play himself in starting at half power and building up gradually, thing is he so clearly loves to play he always wants the ball, his concentration barely wavers, his eyes are always always on the ball, when play stops he's talking to his colleagues, if roly doesn't cash in this month, he's sure to try to in January, let's enjoy AK while we can
Forster-Caskey: don't remember him contributing much, not sure he's quite as good as he thinks he is
Holmes: bang up to his usual standard
Clarke: ran around a bit without really getting involved
Fosu-Henry: looked really good up to a point, always looked to cut inside or offload quickly when his better option was to take on opponents, looks like a decent acquisition
    Novak: n/a
Watt: I'm not buying FSG's "he did what I told him" how gullible does he take us for? the lazy scots twat hadn't even taped his socks up so his shinguards would stay in, he couldn't have made it more obvious that he doesn't give a flying fuck, he should have his wages docked for the week and be flogged off to the first club stupid enough to try and take him on, unforgivable dereliction of duty, the only reason not to play him Tuesday is he'd be cup tied and we can't reduce the chances of offloading this parasite
Ahearne-Grant: he must be furious that he's behind the lazy scots twat in gobbinson's plans, I'd have loved to overhear the bollocking KAG was giving twatt at the final whistle

I was sitting right near the incident .. Pearce gave the bearded twat a right ear full as he was still lying on the ground (whiskas, NOT Pearce that is) .. some tiny drops of spittle might have accidently got stuck in the flea ridden birds nest but I doubt it ..
you can bet that IF Pearce or anyone had 'spat' on him, Sinclair, the bearded, be-whiskered, cheating scumbag, would have made sure that all his team mates, Pearce, and the referee was aware of the incident .. let's move on

I've only kind of skimmed this thread. I've been waiting to post until I had a chance to re-watch the game. Had a nasty bought of food poisoning the last couple days.

Robinson: 10/10. Watching the match on the stream you would not have known we were down to 10 men for most of the game. We still outplayed them, created better chances through most of the game, and kept the ball well. A lot of that is down to the organization and game plan Robinson has instilled, but it is also down to our fitness levels, which seem very, very good. He also waited to get the right players in, which looks like it could really pay off with DaSilva, Amos, and down the road Reeves.

Amos: What he did he largely did very well. Spilled inswinging free kick early on in the first half right into the center of the goal and was lucky not to be punished. But his distribution is very good and he looked like an experienced, calm head. After we went down to 10 he was very deliberate whenever he got the ball, looking for short passes then taking his time to take the sting out of the game. His kicking looked btter and more accurate that last weekend, and lightyears ahead of Phillips' (who is five years his junior to be fair). For all we talk about getting another forward in, I think the wages are better spent on him.

Example #1 of Robinson doing very well to wait to get the right player in.

Solly: Defended well. He gives the ball away very easily at times, something that seems to have been getting worse in the last 2-3 years. Given his 1-v-1 defending ability and all around solidity, I hope Robinson works with him on his distribution because if so he'll be a fantastic asset to this system and this backline.

Bauer: Scored. Had a handful of crucial interceptions. Looked like the player from two years ago. Really important to remember that he didn't have a pre-season last year, and I think that really hurt him (and Tex). He looks fitter and quicker this year, adding to the fact that he's good on the ball and largely reads the game well. Given all the praise from former teammates he seems like a decent bloke as well.

Pearce: Didn't have a lot to do but what he did he did well.

DaSilva: Has a Dani Alves-esque ability to play an entire side of the pitch. Not so much a left back as a left-sided player. He is a great example of Robinson waiting to get the right man (er, young man) in. His pace and athleticism mean he can get up and back with ease, his technique means that others can just spray balls out to the left and he'll get on them, and he recovers well. He seems to have a very good ability to stop the ball as the other team are looking to break, and won it back 2-3 times as a result. Still make some iffy positional decisions about when to close and when to back off in 1-v-1 situations, but he'll learn.

Example #2 of Robinson waiting to get the right player.

F-Caskey: Don't know how I feel about the kit name choice, but apart from that he was very solid. I think some of the work he does will go unnoticed, but he wins the ball back well, gets into passing lanes, and is very good on the ball. More to come from him I suspect.

Kashi: Gave the ball away a couple times. Poor for him ;).

Joking aside he was excellent. Plays one and two touch football and pings the ball around the field with both feet. Great at both breaking up play and starting attacks. He showed a mobility that seems unfathomable for a player who has been out for the better part of two years with injuries.

Fosu: A fantastic, mature performance, he was a great release valve whenever we came under pressure. We know he was the ability to take on and beat a man, but he was so good at dropping deep, pick up the ball, running 30 yards with it, then holding it up and playing a simple ball to keep possession. He also tracked back and won the ball a couple times. Really mature performance for a 21-2 year old "flair player." He's gonna be a good 'un.

Clarke: Deserves a lot of credit. He worked very hard, took up good positions, and held the ball up. He's not a lone forward but I feel like he could play there in a pinch. Pressed well as always. He's not going to score 20 goals or get 10 assists, but with the addition of Reeves and with Marshall still to come back, he looks a really, really good squad player.

Holmes: Was very good as always. Feel like he should be marked down every time he doesn't score with a free kick on the left-hand side of goal from 20-25 yards. They showed him onto his left foot all day and he seemed happy to get to the touchline and cross with it. Didn't really come off, but that's part of the difficulty of playing with ten men. Great free kick for the goal and great disguised ball to play in Fosu who just got it stuck under his feet. It's going to be a huge relief for him not having to take entire teams on on his own this season, and when we're playing with a full XI, teams will not be able to double up on him as easily as they did last season.

Novak: The one thing Robinson got wrong is that his was a clear red card. I've had the benefit of seeing it a handful of times but my first reaction remains the same: two-footed lunge off the ground out of control. There is inevitable talk of "that's a red card in the 'modern game.'" But that's the type of challenge that has been a red card for 15-20 years. No excuses, absolutely awful from the ~2nd-3rd oldest player on the pitch.

  • Drove straight from the game on holiday so only just catching up. This was my first 'support the team not the regime' for a year and I really enjoyed my day, obviously the result helped but the promising signs of crisp passing and interplay (or perhaps they were scuffed flukes between hapless powder puffs), alongside the performances by Kashi, Fosu & De Silva were worthy of the support shown inside the ground.

I do believe the protests have brought about the change and continue to wish daily for new owners, that aside it's nice to be back at SE7 following the Addicks again and meeting with so many faces I missed last season.

Make sure you go over the "STTV to be sold" thread. Nothing on us being sold, but I think this is a very prescient point if Roland is indeed looking to get out of football.
  • Cheers SD Addick That is good news for them, I have been to St Truiden four times now and it's a soulless shell of once proud local team. Lets hope its not too late for the occupants of the Kanarie Bar to get their club back

Hadn't realised that cheers! Surely the service is likely to negatively affect attendences across the EFL?

To be fair, the reason why we aren't signed up for it is because the club developed a website on their own, and with that a new "player" system called "Valley Pass." Because they no longer use the identikit website, they are not eligible to use the streaming service. They made the right decision to go away from the awful identikit websites that the rest of the league have, and I doubt they knew that by doing so they would lose the ability to stream the video for matches given the decision was seemingly made a year ago.

I spent a lot of time on the Bristol Rovers and "iFollow" (streaming video service that replace the "Player" service and also provides highlights and audio commentary for those in the UK) websites on Saturday and I can tell you that even though they've had a revamp, they're still pretty shit. The club did the right thing by branching out to build a better website, and it's just shit luck that this year the EFL got it together to add streaming video to their offerings.

We can blame Charlton and the SMT for a lot of bad decisions, but this seems like a good decision that turned out to be unlucky for those of us outside the UK who would like to watch the games streaming.
