Yes, most of us are grateful for people who know more than we do sharing things with us. Those that are not can go and do one as far as I am concerned.
Off the back of “that” tweet, at our expense, we flew all of our family in (South Africa, USA, Slade Green etc) for a themed ‘Roland’s gone’ party, I went as Katrien.
Anyway, half way through the party (Paul Van Dyk was DJing), we got wind that there was some backtracking going on, whereupon the whole family, apart from Auntie Sue who was at the vol au vent table, left to go home.
I did feel a bit silly and am waiting for the repercussions from my family when they finally get home.

There's an old saying in journalism, "trust but verify." And I think that that stands here. Trust that peoples' sources are correct, but wait for them to be verified (either by others or on the official site). And just because AB or Henry say something that later turns out not to be the case doesn't mean it was false, or wildly false, at the time. These things can change, and the information different people involved in the process have can change as well.
The bottom line is there are two seriously interested parties, it seems a price is at least close to being agreed, and I firmly believe Roland will be gone by summer.
It’s mainly only the ones who already have an axe to grind with rick, who have problems with his tweets/scoops as it means they can be used against him! Regardless of common sense , they don’t seem to understand that it’s first and foremost a rumour but also out for ‘translation’
I’ve got no axe to grind, but when you’re in a position that Rick is, where people hang off his every word regarding takeover talk, I think it would be better to not tweet something as cut and dry as ‘done deal’, when allegedly, it’s not a done deal.
People should perhaps think back to October when “a director” told Robinson - and he told the world - nothing was happening. It wasn’t true as should now be clear to anyone who has been paying attention.
The bigger picture is that Duchatelet has been trying to sell the club for at least ten months and the narrative I and a few others have set out over that period has been broadly accurate, despite being denied by the club, various posters here and elsewhere. That narrative was drawn from the same sources (and others) as the “done deal” tweet.
The fact it was mostly not reported elsewhere, even in Charlton focused media, was used to debunk it. That was wrong too as became clear when Duchatelet was forced into the open - at the last possible juncture - by Meire’s resignation. It’s based on a misunderstanding of how the media works and who they are - and most importantly who they know.
It would be amazing if I or anyone else had got everything right - Aussie related sources have now declared themselves about to win the race four times to my knowledge - but they are not the only sources this time or at other times. And we are at the end of the road, thankfully.
If a previously reliable and very well placed source tells me it’s done, I will share that because that’s how the narrative took shape in the first place - from me trusting my sources. It’s not definitive and if people prefer to believe other things that’s their choice, but the idea the official site is the source of definitive truth is for the birds - experience with the spivs and their “method actor” Michael Slater ought to have demonstrated that.

In an age of social media I don’t think any sensible new owner would expect no leaks. There always will be as it nears the end due to the number of people who will know. RE saying done deal is not really thunder stealing when our own Chairman has publicly stated it will likely be concluded this month.

I honestly think it’s a strange idea that it makes any difference to them. Almost any new owner will be warmly welcomed - they will have years to make their mark and much more to think about than me. It’s the fact of the deal, not the announcement of it, which matters to people.
In any case, I don’t leak the information. As Richard Cawley has tweeted, he was told the same thing. This stuff comes out, whether it’s via me, you or the Daily Mail. It’s naive to think it won’t.
Would we have been better off knowing nothing of RD’s intention to sell the club until December 28th when he was forced to disclose it to explain Meire’s departure? I think that would have driven more people to despair over the last few years.

It’s a football club and this is a football forum where thousands of us get our Charlton fix moment by moment, day by day or whatever. We are as far as business goes brand loyal to the point of stupidity. Anyone that knows football at all will be aware that generating interest whether that be providing a forum platform or by producing a fanzine for thirty odd years that those people are goldust in any relationship an owner wants with his clubs fans.
I agree nla that the new owner will want his place in the sun but the excitement building to that moment is very much enhanced by this and other forums and certainly with the publication of a respected fanzine.

I honestly don’t think you would give two shi*s - they’ll still get there official welcoming, their sky sports interview - having someone confirm it online before they do is par for the course, happens at every club when in the position. You don’t just wake up one morning and find your club has been taken over out the blue, sources talk about it before hand.
