Did Robinson throw a punch?

That's what I thought at the time...

Do I know Robinson that well? No. But of someone had said "I hope you die!", I'm pretty sure he would of walked away from it.

But if someone had said "I hope your daughter dies of cancer!", I think he would react like he did. And as a father, I'm pretty sure I would have done the same as he did...

I was there and have heard on good authority that the groundsman's comment was 'hope you die' or along those lines.

Whatever any of us or AFC fans think or KR, it was well out of order.

There was also a large crowd waiting for our team coach to depart and KR got a lot more abuse and covered in beer, allegedly.

I'm not particularly a KR fan nor criticiser - just reporting.

No , whatever you do, 'Charlton supporter', don't be on OUR manager's side. You are obviously another one frightened by the likely reaction of the bullies on here. You know, like the one's that go to home games and have to say they got a free ticket because their friend's dog found it in the back garden.
    Totally unnecessary.
What you've written goes for me, too, @Alwaysneil, except you've put it fare more politely than I would have.

Re the original question - I've watched the video back a fair few times on my phone and Karl clearly doesn't throw a punch. The groundsman involved was quite far away (circled) and Karl just tried to release his arm from whoever was holding it.

You can also see a staff member (edit from earlier, I think it is one of theirs) go over and have a word with the groundsman and then can see Neil Ardley right at the end ask a steward something who then points in the direction of the guilty groundsman.

Totally agree which is why I hope and expect the groundsman to be sacked.

What bullies on here? I've only been posting for a year or so here, but I haven't seen any bullying. Debate and sometimes heated differences of opinion, yes, but never threats and abuse like I've noticed on your favourite forum.

This is where speculation can run away a bit. I seriously doubt anything as strong / evil as that was said as the bloke would most likely now be facing charges.

Whatever it was, Robinson has come out of this with the majority support of the Charlton fans, public recognition from the other club that their guy was in the wrong, and hopefully no FA charges and this thing can be put to bed

  • Statement from AFCWimbledon OS

Chief Executive Erik Samuelson on Saturday's incidents

On behalf of the AFC Wimbledon board, Chief Executive Erik Samuelson has issued the following statement following Saturday’s match against Charlton Athletic.

Erik said: “Saturday’s match was a terrific game, full of excitement with a dramatic last-gasp equaliser. Unfortunately it was marred by two incidents, both of which we are investigating. The first was that a coin or coins were apparently thrown from the Charlton fans’ area and hit the assistant referee on the back of the head. We are combing through the CCTV footage to try to identify the person who did this reckless and stupid act.

“The second incident involved the Charlton manager at the end of the game. Our fans get on well with Charlton fans and admire the way they have stuck by their club, in particular how they resurrected their club when they were forced to leave The Valley many years ago. However, in preparing for the game we were very aware that the presence at the game of Mr Robinson, a former Milton Keynes manager, represented a risk because many of our fans feel he was very disrespectful of our club in his time there. For that reason we went out of our way to avoid any incidents – at the start of the game he was accompanied onto the pitch by our manager, Neal Ardley, to try to reduce the hostile reception he got, and he was also accompanied on and off the pitch by a steward, without incident, before and after half time. Unfortunately, as he was leaving the pitch at the end of the game it appears that he was abused by one of our volunteers. Fortunately the steward was still present and, aided by Neal Ardley and assistant manager Neil Cox, he was able to restrain Mr Robinson from striking anyone.

“This does not reflect well on anyone but we can only deal with our part in the incident. We will complete our investigation before reaching a final conclusion. However, while we won’t pre-empt that conclusion we wish to make it clear now that any abusive remark by a volunteer towards an opposition employee is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“There was also an incident close to the end of the game when a banner containing an obscene word was unfurled at one end of the stadium. We work very hard to create a friendly, family atmosphere at the club and this totally undermines that work. At some stage in most of our meetings within the club we find ourselves asking the question – ‘what would be best for the club?’ It is impossible to see how displaying such a banner is good for the club. The people who did this have damaged our hard-won reputation among our own fans as well as football fans everywhere. We will do our utmost to prevent a repetition.”

  • Difficult to disagree with any of that. All three incident could have led to disorder after the match.

Coin was thrown straight after we had scored as well. Horrible to see stuff like that in football.
  • Samuelson in danger of falling off his tightrope there, I think.
I have loads of respect for AFCW and am totally on their side re what happened to their club which should never have happened to anyone. But I did say on Sat that they need to consider toning it down a bit once it extends to other "innocent" clubs - they are raising hackles and risk losing some of the goodwill of football fans in general.
I also totally condemn any "fan" who threw a coin - we were a few yards further along but did not see anything other than the linesman's reaction.
  • That's three incidents.

Yes but saying it's two gives an impression of equal liability. Banner and verbal abusee v coin throwing.
Despite that, not a terrible statement.

"Fortunately the steward was still present and, aided by Neal Ardley and assistant manager Neil Cox, he was able to restrain Mr Robinson from striking anyone. "

Not sure how they know Mr Robinson was going to strike anyone. They prevented him from stabbing, shooting anyone and making a speech via the PA system about the plight of local "poor people"too by that logic.

At least they made a statement.

    Coz that's what he does

  • That statement is another nail in the coffin for me, all sympathy for that club is gone. Amateur.
  • awful statement really.

An absolutely incredible thing to put in a Media Release and if Charlton had any balls would demand it be removed as it seriously defames Robinson by stating he was going to attack the bloke.

    Very strange state of affairs.

The groundsman has dug himself into a big hole here.

And the groundsman was tooled up with an offensive weapon if we are going to go AFCW style
  • Piss poor statement from their Chairman. Dons going steadily down in my estimation
