  • I agree. His positioning, decision making and speed to distribute is really poor at the moment.
  • Bbc radio lancs called him 'our nervous friendly Maynard-Brewer'

BBC final score also referenced him as a very lucky and poor performer today.
  • We need a commanding GK who helps organise the defence and Maynard-Brewer isn't that. Decent shot stopper but he can be very rash at times and feels like hes gone backwards in his development tbh.
  • Poor poor poor
  • AMB ,needs coaching. I think he has the basics, but needs a good GK coach.
He lacks communication and he is unsure whether to come or stay , punch or catch crosses .
He seems rooted to the spot at times. And is hunched over, and NEVER on his toes, His warm up routine is poor and has got worse since Holden went.  BUT he does produce good saves .
He won’t be troubling the international selectors of Australia, but with some decent coaching I think he would be ok at L1/L2
  • Didnt follow the game today so when i saw new posts on this thread I was hoping it was a bunch of people saying "what a performance from him today".

Really want him to succeed but he's not there yet. I still remember Rob Elliott raving about him not that long ago. There must be something there.

He is very poor. I believe his lack of control of his penalty area affects our defence. And has all season but is becoming more evident now. Is Isted any better at that? I can’t remember but it’s hugely important in a goalkeeper.

There was a point in the second half when the ball went out behind and Bakinson was absolutely tearing into him.

If a loan player is having that much of a go at you, then...well, something not right somewhere.

Still can't figure out why we offloaded Wollacott, much better 'keeper in my opinion.
I’m sure it was money related. That’s what happens if you get an owner with delusions of grandeur who doesn’t have a pot to piss in. That’s why we’re in the mess we’re in now.
    Hopefully this lot are different.

Nick pope got crucified by our fans, turned alright didn’t he.
if you’re playing with a defence that’s so weak like he is, you will make mistakes.you’re cannon fodder.
    confidence is probably shot.
drop him for a few games

To be far, I thought Nick Pope was rubbish. Think I can remember saying to my mate “God I wish we still had Nicky Weaver”
  • I’ll be honest, I’m still confused as to why JoJo was allowed to go in the summer. With each passing week watching Ash in goal, strengthens my opinion.

    Money, money and money.
  • Who's the goalkeeping coach Henderson  ?
Whoever it is none of our keepers seem to improve.
Perhaps a new goalkeeper coach is also needed
  • AMB has the natural ability to be a fine goalkeeper. He needs to be taught the game and this is for the club to do.
  • I get and agree with all comments except two

    1. ditch the mask! Really? I doubt he wears it to look cool! A fair guess would be that the medical team tell him to wear it
    2. he doesn't get near penalties. Novel idea here but maybe we should stop giving them away cheaply

JoJo Wolcott leaving was not the issue
It was bringing in Istead as his replacement.
Wolcott has played one game for Hibs, letting in 2 goals v Ross County. He is poor too and if in England would be lower half L1/L2 in my opinion.
As has been the same with so many of our players it isn't letting them go, it is who we bring in to replace them.  It also isn't money, we spend enough to be competitive in this league. It is lousy recruitment and poor coaching.
To fix our issues we have now bought in L2 specialist number 2 keeper, Ward.
  • AMB keeps making the wrong decisions he comes out when he shouldn’t and stays when he shouldn’t. A few times yesterday he got pelters from teammates. Distribution is woeful also.

all the comments re him being young and inexperienced are not correct he has played +90 games and just isn’t good enough

Yeah that’s fair, I guess my point is, JoJo is better than anything we’ve currently got in the building.

With Isted it always looked to me like, Holden watched the Play-Off final and thought “that’s the guy for me”. Neither Isted or Ash are good enough.

Agreed except I doubt it was Holden that recruited him...

Woolacott and Isted are no better than AMB - neither are the snswer.

I disagree. JoJo did very little wrong during his time in goal. Only got dropped due to injury. Isted is marginally better than Ash.

It's all about the money money money.
Probably got offered a fee for Woolacott & not AMB and gambled that AMB would improve this season to be as good.
Most gambles to do with saving money have backfired.

I agree neither are great but the current question is "who should be in goal for Charlton?" The answer is "anyone but Maynard Brewer."  So Isted is a valid answer despite having his  own limitations. If nothing else his confidence can't be as low as Maynard Brewer's. Woolacott was a superior 'keeper too.
  • Don’t think Istead has played enough for us to be judged, but he was excellent at Barnsley last season, so his ceiling seems to a lot higher then Brewer
  • I don't know why people have already written off Isted. He had a shaky start as a lot of keepers do but he was just starting to look like he was finding his feet when he got injured. He was fantastic for Barnsley and kept their number 1 out when he came back from injury. He’s played 5 L1 games and he’s been written off, but now Wollacott who was basically fine, sometimes terrible is the messiah we never should have let go. We are a weird fanbase

Having a crap defence in front of a young keeper is not going to help his development.  I am a big supporter of AMB but maybe its time to take him out of the firing line and either rebuild his confidence on loan or through the U23's and decent coaching.

When you have defenders who resemble calamity jane its hard to anticipate what will happen in front of you and a big part of a keepers repertoire is having the confidence that you will anticipate correctly what will happen next, that lack of confidence then spreads into the rest of ones game.

Its not that unusual for players out of the team or not even with the club anymore are better than when they were on the pitch.
