Surprised to learn he's 25, thought he was much younger than that. He was supposed to be freakishly gifted at youth level and had quite the reputation, thought he'd have really pushed on by now.
I think he needs games. His shot stopping is very good. His decision making and command of his area is what has tended to let him down on occasions. Being a bit calmer and picking his moments when to come charging out would make a big difference to his game, but some players need to make those mistakes to learn the lessons from them. It's probably one of the reasons keepers tend to come good later than outfield players. If you're sat on the bench too much then you don' t get the opportunities to learn in a match setting where it really counts. That's not to say he hasn't had opportunities, and you also have to do enough with those opportunities to justify being given a run of games, but he's been in and out of the team for a lot of his time when involved with the first team and probably been a bit harshly judged at times. His confidence looked shot at the end of last season (he wasn't the only one) and I think that affected some of his performances too.

Being in and out of the side due to form/injury has probably not helped him there. Any extended run has come in teams that were by and large pretty poor or at the very least in bad form generally.
He does have the hope that cliché/tradition has it that keepers often "peak" later than outfield players so 25 is still pretty young by that metric.
We've not replaced Amos and Dillon properly since they left. Since then, all our keepers have been more like good backup keepers, rather than clear first choices.

Biggest negative for me about Ash is he is not vocal and comes across as too nice. You need your keeper to have be abit of an oddball, most of yhem are or atleast be able to communicate. His kicking is pretty meh, one on one, his fantastic. Don't be surprised to see him at Crawley if we get another keeper in, Rob Elliot rates him as one of the best young keepers his ever worked with.
