Jimmy Seed's grandson's condemnation of the regime

Well done Jim
Yet again the club try to do something and make a bigger mess had they not done anything. A relatively simple maintenance job and they use it to start boasting about how great they are before anything is actually done.
The sign needs to be repaired today and they do not need to communicate when it's done. Let the people see it for themselves when next at The Valley.
Also does show again why the Target 20k lot are being used but they seem to be happy being used

I know the fashion now is for middle class parents to use the full name (James, Benjamin, Anthony) rather than the shortened version but really?
PS my son is called Joe although it says Joseph on his birth certificate. #keepingitreal0 -
Reminds me of the Simpsons when Homer needed to find out what the J stood for in his middle name.Henry Irving said:

Would've been a little less weird if you'd continued reading and seen it was a genuine mistake to be quite honest...Henry Irving said:

I know a few people named James, never heard any of them referred to as Jim. Had an old next door neighbour named Jim, but he moved when I was 8.
As someone in my mid twenties I can honestly say I've never come across it before, they were simply different names in my mind.1 -

You'll be saying you don't know milk comes from cows or didn't realise bees make honey and wasps make jam next.11 -
Charlton never cease to amaze me these days. They try and get a cheap PR win from doing some basic ground maintenance and can't even get that right as one of the parties they say it is important to work with completely slags them off and disowns the whole business.
They can't just put their foot in their mouth, they have to shoot themselves in that foot at the same time!4 -

I still can't get over this. You're repainting/replacing a sign! It really doesn't need a committee of fans and relatives to set a strategy.seth plum said:

As part of the 2% of protestors, let me join in by saying well played James - nail on head.1

The "strategy" was that the club were asking Jimmy if he wanted to design the logo - which he did. He put forward a few suggestions following a Twitter poll he ran I believe. Seems he's now had a 180 degree turnaround.PassItToLeaburn said:

Trying to score PR points for fan engagement for what amounts to little more than general stadium maintenance while disregarding, disparaging and disrespecting them on key issues is a cynical ploy.Swisdom said:

and for what it's worth a 180 degree turnaround for me would leave me exactly as I am now. I'd still be a supporter of Charlton, still be happy at some things the club are doing and still be disappointed at others.0 -
I am not sure a "strategy" is actually required for ground maintenance. The challenge the club presented for themselves is trying to make a song and dance about something which a) should have been standard practice b) should actually have been done rather than planned before proclaiming it to the world.
It argues to executive experience and judgement.
It argues to a shallow executive mindset, their communications management and their competence to actually deliver on anything.
These are things they themselves chose to put in the public domain I dread to think what goes on behind the scenes.
Mr Dutton has given his reasons for his "about face" based on the further revelations as to the extent of Mr Driesens involvement with the club.
He, as is his right, has decided to reflect on the implications of his support for a regime which has in effect disrespected the football values his family clearly held very dear and which projected the club to the highest levels of the game.
I can but commend the gentlemen for enunciating the concerns of many of us.
That he was given the opportunity to do so however only reflects on the administrative competence of the club.19 -
@Swisdom the question is why did he change his stance?Swisdom said:

I think it was because rather then doing the job the club tried to usurp it for PR spin.
What was a simple task for which Jim and others were planning to fund raise it was turned in a cynical political bit of PR Spin before they'd even done anything.
They had no intention of paying for the sign, they expect others to do the work and find the money but were very quick to claim the credit and use it as an attempt to disparage the protests. Hence connecting it the East Kent Addicks meetings and using the Quisling's quotes36 -
As I said elsewhere AFKA or HI had made an appeal via this forum for £3000 to repair/replace the sign the money would have been raised within 48hrs probably less. No need for a commitee.
Just question does Andrews have any involvement in sponsoring the club? My reason for asking this is there are two signs next to the Jimmy Seed sign which would need to be removed, so the club would have to hire the equipment, irrespective of whether the JS sign needs replacing.0 - Sponsored links:

Fair enough, you just always find a way to defend poor form from the regime, have you ever remarked against them? It's apparent why you do, for commercial reasons, and I get that, but I think you open yourself up to criticism when we all know there's an ulterior motive for you to defend them. There's no strategy in renovating a sign and a respected family of a Charlton legend have taken a tough decision because they don't like what's going on. I'll refrain from commenting directly on your posts about the regime in the future as you say....boring.Swisdom said:

It's taking the piss out of the Club & it's fans. It should be respected and done as a mark of respect to the man and his family, as well as the fans that pay good money to see it every other week.
It shouldn't be a chore that is preached about on social media to attract a positive reaction, or something to stick a tick in the good deeds column by the owners.
Also in no way does it need involvement of a group of attention seeking 'T20' members, these guys should be fans.. don't boast about it, just get it done.9 -
This was one of my frustrations with the way T20k and the club handled it.Dansk_Red said:As I said elsewhere AFKA or HI had made an appeal via this forum for £3000 to repair/replace the sign the money would have been raised within 48hrs probably less. No need for a commitee.

If there had been an appeal to raise funds for the Jimmy Seed sign (and the Bartram Entrance sign which has disappeared completely) there would have been objections on the grounds of "the club should pay for it".
That's a reasonable stance but others would have contributed.
As it was I'd already tentatively raised the issue with Valley Gold, the Fans Forum might have chipped in and maybe even @Swisdom's construction company as well as individuals on CL just as we saw with the Jobling medal.
However, as soon as this was hijacked by the PR company that idea was dead in the water. It had been made, by the regime, a political issue. As soon as they tried to claim credit for it (before doing anything) they polarised it and so cut off a lot of potential funding.
I still hope both signs are replaced ASAP.5 -

When I'm walking naked on a beach holiday. Two footprints and a line in the middle :-)BDL said:@Swisdom Steve what is your line in the sand?
Joking aside I don't get what you mean. I drew a line in the sand after we were relegated. I don't think we can fall any further, I don't think we will I don't think we are. The problem is that for every time something goes reasonably well there is something to counteract it which is seemingly bigger.
The training ground was a positive however the planners are now making things difficult so the club will get hit over the head with it.
We employed an English manager and some new players who appeared to want to play for the shirts however then the Thomas Driessen affair came out and everything becomes shit again.
The biggest problem is that there are so many people who will twist and spin everything the club says into a negative that it just outgrows the original positive and makes it seem like we are in freefall still. I am well aware that things are not perfect but I also not quite as destitute as many people would want us to believe.
The defeat to Wimbledon was not good enough I don't think anyone would dispute that but we have been on the other side of smash and grabs many times past and it is just part of football. That's what makes the game so awesome, you can be dominant in a game and still lose no other support offers this.
The wording the club used of "working with the fans to get this done" was ambiguous and has inevitably led to people stating the club wouldn't be paying. As of last week I know for a fact they were getting it done and are paying for it. It was out to tender.
I am not sure if last night's statement will change this though
