Not watched the video but just listened to the audio and it's a total non story, neither party does anything wrong at all. Questions were fine and Slade answered them pretty honestly to be fair
The knives are out. Believe me he will do nothing right. When ( and if ) he starts winning this will all be a non story. Until then everything he does and says will be analysed. Personally, I don't think we should have ever considered a bald bloke.
As a journalist myself I have to say @LouisMend asked exactly the right question about transfers. If anything, he could and maybe should have asked the same question post Bury.
As a former, failed journalist, I can say that if I'd been in the interview I'd have gone for the jugular in asking about tactics and style of play like they do in Italian and German press conferences.
It's a long-running, tried and tested tactic some managers use when they receive tough questions from a new journalist or from an incumbent journo early into the manager's new job to jump down the throat of said fastball questions with the intention of intimidating them into being a lot softer going forward.
I'm not going to tie it too much into Charlton's situation as a whole because it is so commonplace up and down the footballing ladder. Nor am I going to jump to conclusions about Slade as a result, especially as he (voluntarily) finds himself in the deep end, thanks to the state the club finds itself in.
Rather than focus on Slade I choose instead to focus on Louis and what a great job he did getting to the brass tacks of the matter last night. Obviously I hope he and Russell find their footing in their gaffer/hack relationship rather than things heating up to the point that Slade does something silly like refuse to speak to someone for having the audacity to cut to the chase. But I certainly do not hope that the situation is resolved by Slade getting his way and having everyone tread on eggshells around him - especially when the quotes show pretty clearly that he didn't have much to be offended by.
Having watched the full interview on CAFC Player, it was nothing bad from Louis and then Slade after his initial response, could have left it there as he responded to other journos but decides to go on and make a cock of himself with his oooooh positiveness bullshit being overstated like a ten year old prick in the playground act
i didn't have him down as a twat but i sure do now
Cut Slade some slack everyone. Let's see what happens on Saturday and at least give the guy at least 5 games before judging the guy too harshly. I am an optimist (i.e. someone who knows how shit stuff is but can still see a way through) and Slade is too. He is not the problem.
There's a fine line between protesting to get the regime out and doing it in such a way that it doesn't affect the players on the pitch. And that's the difficult bit.
I am sorry mate I don't know if you have been to both games. But Saturday all the fans got behind the team from the start to last minute. It even got to the stage where was losing the ball came in our end a young lad kept hold of the ball refusing to give it back another 5 second and he would have been linched by every man women child there. We sang our hearts out for the team . For what lackless no passion no care for us. No pride in wearing our shirt players who are scared to attack who keep passing the ball sideways or backwards. Last night the Roland out chant started after the final whistle. Slade is just a puppet like all the rest of the managers ( except Powell ). The quicker they sell. The better the team. Also there no team spirit. On Saturday I waited for the team coach and there was no joking laughing as the team got off the coach it felt very sombre. There is as a girl about 6 ish asking for autographs only 3 players signed her note pad . (If her dad is on here send me a private message and I will give you one of my signed shirts for your little princess.) It's us fans who support the team who are suffering. We should all stick together to get the best for club and get charlton back to where it belongs.
A lot of high horses and thin skins around it seems. So 'The nasty' Russell showed some temperament. Goodness knows how much noise there would be should a player bite back for once....OH!

With you on this. Here we have a recently-appointed manager, finding his feet in a hot kitchen, overseeing a partly-assembled squad that is getting to know each other. Meanwhile, negotiations about Ins and Outs are on-going. These are tough times for Charlton fans. I've said before, and say again now that our collective ire should be directed at the owner.

In the interest of fairness I asked a friend to ask a former player of his what Slade was like and the response was "he's a top man , just a nice man, good man management and lets you get on with things "
I don't think he sounded too bad. I read this thread first and was expecting far worse. Yes, he appeared a bit frustrated with some of the questions but that is understandable when you're trying to put a positive spin on things. He said it's a 'process' and about 'stability' and it really is. The last thing we need now is more change.
I don't know where our club is going but the constant fan negativity (yes, Louis is a fan) will not help the team on the pitch. I'm sure he senses that and it was probably the reason for some of his 'snappy' responses. He knows what is going on in the dressing room and how it affects his players. It's his job to keep them positive.

Totally agree. Judging by the comments on this thread, I was expecting something utterly shocking!!
I have to say personally I haven't found Slade very convincing from the start. But he is entitled to a fair chance. Unfortunately he and his team are hardly covering themselves in glory at the moment, and losing to Cheltenham last night, whilst not the end of the world, is hardly encouraging on the back of the more concerning loss on Saturday. Add Lookman suddenly being mysteriously able to play for 90 mins, and Roger Johnson having a dig at fans, and some questions are entitled to be asked of Mr. Slade. Only he was there when Katrien was promising that the team would be competitive in this league, and we obviously don't look like we are at the moment. As for being professionally courteous when replying to "friendly" journalists and their probing questions, I can recall being at the training ground a few years back as part of the journo pack for the Thursday press day. I was doing some sports coverage for local radio, when all of a sudden they pointed Curbishley at me, after he had already answered a load of questions. I had been all ready to talk to someone else so had nothing prepared to ask him. I asked him the most rambling idiotic question, it was utter nonsense, something about home advantage. He looked at me with a faint smile of WTF and then perfectly politely made my question somehow make sense, which was a considerable feat in itself. Managing the press takes a lot of skill and nous. We should be a little concerned our new manager is getting tetchy after just one competitive game. He has a lot to prove to us, that this regime has changed, that we are not a basket case club. If he is going to be any good he needs to be really smart about these press things. Otherwise we will be even more fucked than we already are.
I think we can all agree that Slade gave an answer that may charactise him, within the context of that incident, as "a bit of a twat".
If I may play devil's advocate, Louis asking "you must be disappointed not to have won yet" (or words to that effect; I paraphrase) might have been a question Slade found annoying and a bit stupid. (Sorry Louis man but I certainly did, the answer is "yes" to that question every time!)
Hopefully he can redeem himself. I'm still largely ambivalent toward Slade, but mainly because I'm feeling less and less connected to the club.
I'm going to play cricket on Saturday. It's a local derby. (@Leuth will I see you there?) Far more interesting. I may also have a yoghurt for breakfast. Greek. With honey. Exotic.

Good point, but had the response been a polite - with no hint of sarcasm - "yes, of course, I am always disappointed when we lose" and left it at that then I suspect most listeners would have actually thought "what a daft question". As it was ...

Well done @LouisMend keep asking the difficult questions mate
