If I knew about this last week, I definitely would have asked Martin Glenn about this whilst on holiday with him! I'm seeing him next weekend so will definitely put it to him then
Say what?
Seriously?
My partner is his daughter so yes. Had a nice week in Spain. I'll happily put it to him next time I see him
in a reply elsewhere the FA say that they have no control over whom the EFL decide to appoint to the Council so this petition needs to really be sent to the EFL when finished.
Half of them have no control of their bladders so no real surprise there.
Thank you for contacting The Football Association.
In answer to your enquiry about the appointment of Katrien Meire to the FA Council please find the process which led to her joining the council detailed below.
The English Football League has the right to nominate eight representatives on to the FA Council. It is a matter for The EFL to decide who is best placed to represent their interests.
In terms of these eight places, six people come from the EFL’s Board and it allows its 72 member clubs to elect the other two places. Katrien Meire is one of these two club-elected representatives and will accordingly serve on the FA Council for this season.
The FA has no say in these eight appointments, the EFL board and its 72 member clubs are entitled to nominate the candidates they feel are best placed to represent them.
I hope this clarifies the matter for you.
Yes, thanks the FA it clarifies things well, so you have no say about who sits on your Council. Nice one, the biggest liability to a FL Club in England, the CEO of a regime which is leading it to destruction has just been appointed on to your Council.
Maybe nobody wants to sit on the FA Council because it's a worthless powerless talking shop, so the other clubs put Meire on there as punishment??
"What a ridiculous situation! IF the FA think that this individual is fit to sit on such a "council" then that finally destroys any credibility that they have with your average fan of football. This person, as CEO of a well respected and traditional English football club has duplicitously conspired with an absent foreign owner to destroy an institution that has been held dear by my family for over 80 years. The women is a negligent fool and I am afraid that confirms mine and many supporters suspicions, that she will fit in quite well at the FA."
Football League representative on the Football Association council.
Dear Sir or Madam,
The Football Association are avoiding any enquiries about the appointment of Katrien Meire to their council by saying her arrival is the responsibility of your body, the English Football League. The notion is that she was elected by her colleagues involved with non premiership EFL clubs. I notice with interest that there are vacancies on the FA board that should be filled by representatives provided by your organisation, so the process of nomination and election of your representatives is likely to be a very small constituency of voters, and it is possible that everybody put forward by the EFL to the FA did not have to face a ballot as so few members of your body were interested in representing you to the FA. However it has happened, is there nobody at the EFL that has paused to consider the controversial nature of this appointment. Football is supposed to be a sport, and the Football league is supposed to be a competition of the aspirational. There is also provision in your organisation that at least acknowledges fans and how they are treated. Katrien Meire has publicly stated that Charlton Athletic is not an aspirational club that wishes to compete in the normal way, but an organisation whose aspiration is to produce players for the Premier League. Surely the integrity of a sport is that its member organisations want to participate in it? Charlton Athletic are not that. I mentioned fans above. Did you know that the Charlton Athletic trust have complained to the FA about Katrien Meire essentially accusing fans of racist behaviour. This is ironically at a club that previously led the equality agenda in English Football, fully supported by its fans. Five minutes research, or a call to virtually any Charlton fan would tell you of the schism that Meire has created at what was previously a decent and honest football club. Has there been even a moments hesitation on the part of the EFL in putting forward Katrien Meire as one of your representatives at the Football Association? Are you able to state any qualities or qualifications she has in order to be your representative, beyond the fact that she works at a member club?
Yours Sincerely/i>
Please feel free to copy if you wish, and add or amend it a bit to make it more individual to you if you would like to write to them as well.
My e-mail to the football league (basically an edited version of the one I sent the FA).
The FA tell me that the decision to appoint the hapless CEO of Charlton Athletic to the FA board was down to the Football League.
She and her puppet master are destroying Charlton Athletic FC, she clearly does not have the interest of football at heart, an imbecile can see that. And as a non-English person, why would she have any concern about the England national team which is also part of the FA’s remit? Why on earth would the FL consider her a suitable person for post? Please can you give me the names and e-mail addresses of the people that made this decision so I can take the matter up with them individually.
Thank you.
Best Regards

Thank you for your email, we note your comments.
In response to the points you raise it may be helpful to explain the process by which Charlton Athletic Chief Executive, Katrien Meire has been appointed to the FA Council as one of the EFL's representatives.
At the beginning of each season, the EFL is entitled to nominate 8 representatives to the FA Council. The EFL’s Articles of Association determine that 6 of the places are awarded to individuals that are already serving on the EFL Board with the two remaining places going to club representatives from outside of the Board structure on a democratic basis.
The standard process for identifying the 2 club representatives is that all 72 clubs are given the opportunity to nominate individuals from within their own club with a ballot then being held across all clubs to determine the two successful candidates from the list of nominees.
In this instance there were two nominees for the positions on the FA Council, Katrien Meire and Fleetwood Town Chief Executive, Steve Curwood. As a result, both were appointed to the FA Council for the 2016/17 season without the requirement for a ballot of clubs.
So if I read that right, she got the job because no one else wanted it. Now it makes sense.
Exactly this, Hobson's Choice. Serves them right they deserve one another and all the flack that comes with it. Their constitution needs a serious overhaul. What happened to the key competency of fit and proper?
So if I read that right, she got the job because no one else wanted it. Now it makes sense.
That's how I read it. Not Hobsons choice though as far as I am concerned, there must be a veto. I shall write back expressing my further concerns next week.
So any incompetent dud at a club could get on the panel, with no research or resistance.
If it all goes tits up, what happens?
EFL just sit there and shrug "i dunno" like some sort of Lurch from the Addams family.
Absolutely useless and after todays embarassing events she has a place to be seen within the FA capacity. The EFL/FA never cease to amaze me, their incompetence knows no bounds.
Thank you for your email, we note your comments. Apologies but we are not aware of having received an email from you previously and cannot trace this on our system.
With regards the Supporters Survey we can confirm that individual clubs will receive feedback based on the survey responses filled in by their supporters. The EFL will not release this information publically but it is obviously at clubs' discretion what they choose to do with their data accordingly. With regards to club consultation and surveys in general we would advise you contact the club directly as they should be able to advise on their planned activity in this area for the forthcoming season.

Election to the FA Council is via a democratic process, as defined in EFL regulations and agreed to by member clubs. Representatives are not permitted to hold that office in the event of certain circumstances, some examples of which are; conviction of criminal offences, if they cease to be a director, if they are removed by simple majority of the clubs in general office, if their club is promoted/relegated out of the EFL, if they cease to be eligible pursuant to the provisions of the FA Articles of Association.
While we of course respect your personal views with reference to the ownership and management of Charlton Football Club, it is important to clarify what authority the EFL has to involve itself in the ’running’ of clubs.
Our mandate to govern is enshrined in our regulations which, having been voted through by clubs, provide a clear objective framework under which clubs are required to operate. It therefore follows that what the EFL cannot do is intervene in club matters in instances where there hasn’t been any breach of regulations based on subjective judgements about the management of individual clubs. Particularly as in a competitive league environment clubs will succeed or fail based on the on and off field decisions they make. As their own private businesses, clubs will make their own management decisions, aside from complying with our regulatory requirements and the ‘laws of the land’.
Where we have evidence that any club has not complied with our regulations we will act. In addition we can only refer you to The League’s Owners and Directors Test (O&DT) conditions, which set out on-going disqualifying conditions for any owner or director that does not adhere to this objective criteria http://www.efl.com/global/appendix3.aspx. The test is continuously applied in that owners and directors self-certify against the criteria on an ongoing basis.
I hope at the very least that has assisted in providing some background to the matters you raise.
