Slade press conference updates

  • I have watched the filmed interview with Russel Slade the club have put out (is the press conference available?) and in the spirit of cutting him some slack I would say he still needs to get up to speed. He came over to me as he usually does as a nice enough bloke deserving of respect, but as for the content of the interview I actually found a lot of it alarming, he ended by saying that League One is tough and he knows it well which for me was the one bit of the interview that resonated as realistic.
  • there's still hope for my clark manager 1st game of the season bet to come in. Brussel has gotta last another 2ish months. unlikely
  • I can't help thinking that the main winner in this massive change of strategy will be Mrs Slade who must be flicking through the Argos catalogue at this very moment thinking, OH YES , it's going to be a bumper Christmas in the Slade household this year.
I doubt whether many managers have clauses in their contracts about control over player recruitment, but the reason why a manager might stick out for a written agreement on player recruitment with the current regime at Charlton is because player recruitment at Charlton has been a fiasco under RD's tinpot tenure.
Plus ca change it would seem...
But when Noddy Holder finds he's been sent a left back from the Super U Car Park XI, and he's having to explain why "his" team have been beaten by the much loved score line 3-0, he'll be off before KM can find a laundry basket for the larger gentleman...
Just in time for Mrs S to load up on the goodies for the festive season...
That's the problem, RD, KM and RM, your previous actions have taken away the hope.....

If protests are to continue we need to do it properly. Not with flares and petty name calling or aggression and racism. That just makes us look childish and will definitely deter players from joining us.

    Unbelievable.

    Are you taking the piss?
We are a basket case at the moment but two wrongs don't make a right. We, as fans, are better than that.

    Racism is never acceptable
The vicious name calling I have personally witnessed aimed at the Directors box is never acceptable
I got abuse for not getting up and walking out in the 74th minute - what the fuck is that about? This is a football club not a picket line.

Protest if you choose but we get more attention for doing it the right way (inflatables and stress balls) than we ever will for mob rule
Ok, so you are actually being serious.

Please please explain your point about racism...

    When has that occurred?
Racism is probably the wrong word on my part. Still think there's probably something somewhere that states "Fuck off back to Belgium you stupid fucking Belgian slag" "Go back to fucking Naby Sarr you whore" at the top of your voice isn't socially acceptable. That's happened.

I wouldn't say that sort of stuff to my worst enemy.

If she listened and fucked off back to Belgium she wouldn't have this problem

Slade said no player will be sold on the cheap and he hopes the players he wants to stay will stay and fight to get the club back ..... Already apoken to one or two players but will see the others when pre season starts and looking forward to trip to Austria

Not actually getting at anyone here, but that, obviously, excludes people who may be let go for nothing....

I agree. Nothing worse than calling someone Belgian

Its not going to be as black and white as having it in your contract or not. Any manager worth a rub that is going to join a club with a recent managerial history like ours, would take on board the comments from previous managers and insist that something is written in their contract along the lines of they have control over player recruitment but any fees have to agreed by the owner/CEO.

Slade is mental to think a verbal agreement means anything to this mob.

Slade is an experaniced manager who knows football ..... He as full control as much as a manager can have in today football , he would not have taken the job of he did not , he says everything goes through me ........we manage upwards
Where do you get this shite from?

  • Whilst I desperately want to believe that bringing in an experienced English manager or Head Coach or whatever the title is the start of a shift in the approach of the regime, it really won't be.

Murray's comment today was laughable. Meire's repetition of previous baloney about learning from mistakes, looking forward etc is just rehashed from her previous purile crap.

Duchatalet has a model that he is convinced will work despite it clearly being unworkable. That attitude is not that of a man who is used to or willing to change his mind.

Slade has committed professional suicide in believing that he will have anything other than a passing comment to make on transfers. Who knows his motives for joining but this will probably be his last job in football.

Posters on here who see this as some seismic shift in approach are wonderfully optimistic people.

Me? I tend to judge people on their previous actions. Plus on how they conduct themselves as individuals and a collective. This lot have pretty much destroyed what made this a great club and have done so in such a pigheaded, arrogant and malicious way.

Appointing Russell Slade goes absolutely nowhere near giving me any sort of optimism that they have changed their MO.

They knew that if they appointed another unheard of foreign manager then they would be left with little option but to sell up. By doing this they think they will appease the masses. Unfortunately they think that the masses are as thick as shit.

    Most of us aren't .

Ha, ha, you lot really do make me laugh!

How many of you wallies actually believe that all of the other 91 league managers have it written into their contracts that they have sole control over transfers and the like!

    Curbs did at West Ham.

    Hence his constructive dismissal victory.

I'm sure he is not the only one.

I don't know how common it is but curbs ain't had many managers jobs since that court case has he?

  • Who wrote Slade's CV. I could do with the editor.

Surely the (almost) sole judge of a manager's ability is based up the number of promotions gained during the manager's lifetime (20 years in this case); yet he gets the job.

The analogy is surely a lawyer getting a job as a CEO at a Championship football club......oh wait a minute.

Well that makes a change from selling them on the cheap and those that stay not caring about getting promoted - I trust we are all as impressed as Colin and we can join him in being over the moon rather than as sick as the proverbial parrot.
  • What constitutes on the cheap?

Gudmonnson £3m target price dependent on euros

Lookman £3m with appearance and sell on clauses

    Teixara - £1m

    Cousins -£1m

Oh god I can't be bothered with this.

  • For me, the bottom line is that either there will be a change in approach etc, in which case all well and good. Or, there won't be and therefore we will know that there never will, and the protests should not only continue but escalate. We won't know which way it's going until the season starts and we start to see what's happening. Until then I'm not going to get too excited either way over 30 minutes of fairly meaningless PR waffle on all sides. Apart from that Murray comment obviously, what a tool.
  • Gone by August I reckon.

8 weeks of bloody Pinocchio on the blower to Slade every 5 minutes will be too much for any man to suffer
  • She now has no one to hide behind or blame when this goes wrong.

she does - she will just tell us we were wrong to insist on an english manager - nothing will ever be her fault
  • When can we start the thread on who will succeed Brussels Slade and how many thousands will be interviewed for the post ?

So undermining and disrespecting fans was not a mistake? If it was, KM wouldhave apologised or been sacked! Fraeye was in the job too long - are they serious? It was clear to me he was out of his depth after two games, but it was clearer before he joined based on his CV FFS! It is very easy to say you have made mistakes and will learn from them - but I want to know what they think the mistakes were. Do they think it was simply not employing an English manager?

Murray: "We made mistakes last year, we know it. Fraeye stayed too long, that was probably the biggest mistake." #CAFC

Employing him in the first place was the biggest bigger mistake Katrien.
And the mistakes went on and on and on and got bigger and bigger and bigger.
