So.........3 weeks ago a manager walked away from talks with us because he wasn't given assurances in writing that he'd have full control over signings. Then we get a manager who says he has a verbal agreement. RD must be laughing his bollocks off at the stupidity of Slade here. I'll be amazed if this ends well.

Wider got all he wanted and agreed to be our manager ..... But Sheffield due to his personal life was to much of a pull
Nothing else was the reason ..... press conference was even booked

It's TOO not TO. Please - just one post with no errors. You nearly did it earlier but it's CAWLEY not CRAWLEY.

PS. The content is still shit.
  • He's definitely more Charlton than I thought. Feeling very slightly more positive.
  • I thought Slade spoke well - why can't Meire see she is holding things back? Murray too!

Is it only me, but I watched the whole of that and found it excruciating?
  • I thought Slade spoke well - why can't Meire see she is holding things back? Murray too!

Yep, I thought he got through the autocue quite well too.
  • I thought Slade was pretty good, I like him.

Katrien is awful. Murray should have not had a fig but otherwise wasn't too bad.

Decent set of questions they had to field though.

If Katrien didn't fear for her job when we got relegated mainly due to her decisions, there's something wrong there.

Typical of the rubbish on here. Sheffield United were his club..nothing whatever to do with assurances. You just spout out whatever suits your prejudices.

The danger of a crusade is that it takes on its own life and it's objective becomes the sole drive rather than what kicked it off in the first place. I have always wanted this lot to sell but it has been clear for a long while that they will not. Talk of "having them on the run" etc is just wishful delusion, but still seems to be the only aim of some of the contributors here.

And what is "Our Charlton" I have supported the club for 70 years and I have witnessed numerous versions of Charlton. If you are referring to the character and essence that makes it a bit different from other clubs, then that will remain no matter who owns it even if it has to resurface from time to time.

For the moment shut up, or at least hold judgement for a while, rather than invite failure by hoping or at least half hoping for it.

    Spot on Mr. Kinsella!

Every single word that comes out of any meeting or press conference is dissected and spun by some on here to use to their advantage!
    yes by you and Colin.

Don't you see that while others "spin" it one way, you "spin" it the other.

Meanwhile you salute one Charlton fan to tell others to "shut up".

Henry, you are a classic example of what I was saying, Kinsella actually stated:-

''For the moment shut up, or at least hold judgement for a while, rather than invite failure by hoping or at least half hoping for it''.

But you chose just to quote just the ''shut up'' part of the sentence, totally taking it out of context!

    I rest my case!

I just appear to be rattling some cages on here for calling it as I see it!

Well, having been pessimistic about Slade I feel a lot more positive having watched that presser in full. He seems very Charlton like. Considered, open and determined.
Katrien looks awful....the protests have clearly taken their toll.
But, overall, I think Slade seems decent. Let's see how the signings pan out - if random Belgians start rocking up at Sparrows Lane or if we actually sign experienced pros and flair lower leaguers to get us out of div 3.
  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion - just as others are entitled to tell you you're wrong. And anyone defending the regime is wrong I'm afraid

  • Difficult to get a smoke bomb through net curtains. Could maybe erect a large cinema screen in front of the covered end and project the game on it. Just like going to the pictures.

    Inspirational vision.

If protests are to continue we need to do it properly. Not with flares and petty name calling or aggression and racism. That just makes us look childish and will definitely deter players from joining us.

    Unbelievable.
That's why I flagged him, racism. WTF.

Its not going to be as black and white as having it in your contract or not. Any manager worth a rub that is going to join a club with a recent managerial history like ours, would take on board the comments from previous managers and insist that something is written in their contract along the lines of they have control over player recruitment but any fees have to agreed by the owner/CEO.

Slade is mental to think a verbal agreement means anything to this mob.

Slade is an experaniced manager who knows football ..... He as full control as much as a manager can have in today football , he would not have taken the job of he did not , he says everything goes through me ........we manage upwards
Why did he not get written assurances over transfers as you said Wilder was given?
  • colin1961 said:

Slade said no player will be sold on the cheap and he hopes the players he wants to stay will stay and fight to get the club back ..... Already apoken to one or two players but will see the others when pre season starts and looking forward to trip to Austria

Not actually getting at anyone here, but that, obviously, excludes people who may be let go for nothing....
As if he will have any say on what offers the Club get for any player. He may have input on how much he thinks a player is worth but Katie and Co will accept any offer that they see fit whether Brussel agrees or not.

    As Uboat said "desperate".

You know deep down you've backed the wrong horse but you're desperately try to convince yourself that things aren't as bad as they clearly are.

  • I may have mentioned this on this or other threads but watching the interviews today, I liked Slade. Rather a lot more than I was expecting to.

Looking forward to the next month and hoping he can get a squad together.

Shopping list could be quite long as before we lose anyone other than Lookman, JBG and Vetokele, I reckon we need 2 strikers, RM with cover, LM, LB cover, RB cover, CB (if Teixara leaves). So that's 7 players.

And then replacements for any of Solly, Fox, Diarra, Cousins, Harriott, Pope, Bauer, Kashi leaving.

I'm probably a few players off the 20-22 adult squad with U21s filling the rest of the numbers up to 25 there.

We'll know more in a month and good luck to Slade in the transfer market. Don't let Katrien make any calls.

Just because you are in the majority, it doesn't necessarily make you right.

If you think I challenge some of the things written on here to make myself important you couldn't be further from the truth my friend.

Elfsborg is one of the most vociferous on here with regards to KM and RD but that doesn't stop me classing him as a friend and enjoying a pint with him (even though I have to buy the first round!). Important, no just a fan with different views Alan!
