So.........3 weeks ago a manager walked away from talks with us because he wasn't given assurances in writing that he'd have full control over signings. Then we get a manager who says he has a verbal agreement. RD must be laughing his bollocks off at the stupidity of Slade here. I'll be amazed if this ends well.
Typical of the rubbish on here. Sheffield United were his club..nothing whatever to do with assurances. You just spout out whatever suits your prejudices.
The danger of a crusade is that it takes on its own life and it's objective becomes the sole drive rather than what kicked it off in the first place. I have always wanted this lot to sell but it has been clear for a long while that they will not. Talk of "having them on the run" etc is just wishful delusion, but still seems to be the only aim of some of the contributors here.
And what is "Our Charlton" I have supported the club for 70 years and I have witnessed numerous versions of Charlton. If you are referring to the character and essence that makes it a bit different from other clubs, then that will remain no matter who owns it even if it has to resurface from time to time.
For the moment shut up, or at least hold judgement for a while, rather than invite failure by hoping or at least half hoping for it.
Spot on Mr. Kinsella!
Every single word that comes out of any meeting or press conference is dissected and spun by some on here to use to their advantage!
I wish you could realise how desperate you sound.
Desperate?
I just appear to be rattling some cages on here for calling it as I see it!
Hero
No, just an individual with a mind of my own rather than following the flock!
So anyone who doesn't share your viewpoint lacks a mind of their own? You are as arrogant as Katrien.
Right back at you Mr. Submarine!
Not really, because I haven't called you a sheep. You do however have the worst comebacks of all time. Really, truly awful.
Slade came across well. Hope he gets stuck right in. Liked the bit about being able to make direct phone calls to managers and personally knowing people in the English game.
(Having said that, Powell's connections are hard to beat. He was the last one with that ability. They axed him.)
Meire and Murray just don't see the problem, it seems
KM DIDNT fear for her job upon relegation! Dodgy!
Murray feels criticism of him is unfair! Ummmmm
Good luck Sladey boy. Let's hope the Sladester can do the business in spite of the handicaps of who he is working with.
I've just listened to the press conference and that woman does my head in , the nervous laughter, the lies, arrrrgh! Not a hint of an apology for the train crash of my beloved club she has presided over. 'Mistakes have been admitted but that's all in the past let's move on' or words to that effect, is all we get.
Sorry you just can't wipe out 2&1/2 years of carnage, insult and the destruction of such an institution by the appointment of an English 'Manager' just like that! Anyway you had one when this all kicked off, his name was Chris Powell who romped League one smashing records all over the place ffs! No I'm sorry this is a pathetic attempt at appeasement and I ain't falling for it.
Good luck Mr Slade, by Christ you're going to need it in that asylum known as Charlton (it's Athletic by the way) Football Club.
What really gets to me is that people on here are not prepared to give Slade a chance. You have protested and part of that was asking for a British manager. That man is in place now and is not a coach he is our manager.
Who isn't prepared to give Slade a chance every manager/coach has been given a chance by fans (the interim less so )
personally I haven't protested for a British manager , just a competent one who will have a proper infrastructure in place where he can work from and make footballing decisions without interference from the prick of an owner who with his half time chats with Fraeye during his reign holds a massive responsibility for making us the most pathetic joke of a club in todays game
Decent manager, decent guy but sadly Slade has allowed his good nature to get the better of him if he is happy with a verbal agreement from an owner who has not only undermined every head coach/manager he has employed so far but who also was too busy to appear himself for the start of this so called exciting new era at the club he apparently cares enough for that he is desperate to save us from those foreign owners who might want to move us from our home.
At least Slade will get a nice healthy pay off when it all goes wrong again.
Realistically Roland isn't going to turn up for questions from the press though is he?
I would say any owner who truly cared about winning the fans over and convincing us that things really are changing would be happy to sit in front of a few local journalists for 20 minutes yes.
Wasn't saying he shouldn't have been there, just that Roland being Roland, never going to happen.
I don't think it's just the 20 minutes that would be the problem it's being recorded and looking like a tit could shift into negative confidence in his money making business Melexis.
Which is doing depressingly well. I bought two shares at EUR 46.6 each on 23 March and they are now worth EUR 57.1. That's quite some improvement in Roly's net worth over the period.
essex al you've been positive about these clowns since the beginning , give this a chance give that a chance eventually (pray to god) something good might happen and you will be right but you are a bit strange in that most things this pathetic regime do you are trumpeting it before there is anything to crow about , take some of your own advice and wait and see before extolling the virtues of KM'S new net curtains or whatever else is her next fanciful idea
You see this is where you get me totally wrong!
I don't actually give two shits with regards RD and KM. To me they are just guardians of my club until the next lot to buy the club come along. There has been loads before them and there will be loads after them.
They have done a shit job of running the club, there is no denying that and although time after time I have been called a club apologist, it couldn't be further from the truth.
What really gets to me is that people on here are not prepared to give Slade a chance. You have protested and part of that was asking for a British manager. That man is in place now and is not a coach he is our manager.
I've already stated that Slade didn't particularly float my boat, but listening to him today in the two interviews on you tube has given me some hope for next season. All I am really interested in is getting out of this godforsaken league. I hated it the last time and it will be the same this time, but I will be there all the same showing support for Slade and his team.
It has been an interesting day where I have been called a clown, arrogant, pantomime horse and much more, but hey ho, I have my views and I am sticking by them.
Just think if there wasn't arrogant clowns like me with alternate views we wouldn't have a forum!
I reckon if you did a poll, most people on here would be prepared to give him a chance. Yet, he's accepted the role and is willing to work under the incompetent management of RD and KM. that's where the distrust lies. We, all looking at it from very deep inside are baffled as to why anyone would touch it
Time will tell. I think Slade will get a chance, but he's walking a tightrope accepting to work under this lot
Trying to take it at face value it was, I thought, a decent conference.
Slade came across well and fits the realistic bill of the calibrate of manager we can hope to appoint and afford. Whilst a little slow in coming the timing means it's his team / squad to work with.
KM and RD gave reasonable answers in the circumstances to the questions posed of them. We might not like the answers but they were given.
Time will only tell if Slade does have sufficient power to influence the squad. Not sure most managers have a clause in their contract saying they have final say on recruitment - think that's a red herring.
In truth we'd have more cause for concern if we had no manager for much longer or another unknown name from Belgium / RD network.
The next test is the recruitment of new players and disposal of current players to really see if they mean to be pushing for promotion. Of course we have to remember some players will leave because they want to not necessarily because the club wants to exit them.
I'd rather look forward at this point. If he doesn't last for a sensible period there is no way back for the regime.
I agree but with the caveat that I think regardless of how well Slade does there is no way back for Katrien and Tony.
I am less convinced on the Roland front. I think his best option is to sell. On the other hand, if he really delegates decision making to a competent CEO and manager and we build back up the club structure we had bit has been ruined, he may be an OK owner in comparison with some alternatives.
It's his lack of any ambition for the club that causes me concern and makes me think even root and branch reform with him as owner isn't enough.
At best he would be a bad owner. Currently he is one of the worst in football.
Murray bullshit, Meire PR blunder and to cap it all a new bloody sofa behind Slade as he does the obligatory new-manager-stand-with-scarf pose for the cameras.
The only explanation is that Meire woke up and asked herself: "How can I really piss everyone off today".
That's not s new sofa, that's the old one absent ripped apart cushions but which no one has thought to remove. Which in itself is pretty shoddy attention to detail.
Listening to the press conference, Slade did not get the written agreement over signing players that proved the stumbling block for Wilder. Let's hope Roland is, for once, a man of his word.
Can't blame Slade for taking a job. Not that many on offer for guys with his record, so let's keep everything crossed he is given the freedom and backing to have a chance of success. But if Meire and Murray this is a "oh, go on, let's make up and start again" moment they are going to be disappointed.
I reckon Vincent Tan vs Roland Duchatelet is a pseudo celebrity death match we'd all pay to see at Wembley, particularly if there was a no win guarantee, both parties will have expired by the end of the match.

No, just an individual with a mind of my own rather than following the flock!
You are ignorant - not because you have a position which you are fully entitled to, but because you do not respect that many others are not following the flock, but hold a counter position. Because they massively outnumber you - it doesn't mean they are following the flock and suggesting it is arrogant and disrespectful!
Way too much sniping at each other on this thread, more than usual. We all want the same thing, don't we? Should think that RS would be given the chance to prove himself at our club before we decide on the merits (or lack of) of this appointment. Obvious we'd hear the usual platitudes at the press conference. Screw the regime, but good luck Mr. Slade.

If you ran a poll on this forum i think the people who wouldn't be prepared to give Slade a chance would be even less than the 2% Meire so famously once mentioned. We support Charlton, we support the manager and we support the team. However, as i'm sure you're well aware, recruiting an english manager (and we've yet to establish if he will actually be allowed to manage) only solves 1 of the problems. By far the bigger issue, is the Belgians, they are the problem and we want them gone.
CEO that decimates the customer base, devalues the product, loses half the staff, and adds a conservative £2m p/a to the operating losses... and has no fears for her job.

You do however have the worst comebacks of all time. Really, truly awful.
What was the advice the reporter gave Slade at the end about how to win Charlton fans over? The sound is obscured.
