  • Greer and Zamora released by Brighton.

    Old but experienced.

    Too expensive no doubt.

Greer is one of the best club captains in the league and Z is a proven goalscorer, so no chance we will sign either.

You're right but you shouldn't be.

But with no manager and it seems all other football appointments on hold until we do were in limbo anyway.

Zamora would be a good punt if you could get him to come and if you could get him on a pay-as-you-play deal. I don't think it's just our total lack of organization that will keep this from happening, I think he'll be snapped up by a club in the Championship. When fit he can do a job and he's experienced (was meant to be temperamental in his younger days, seems less so now).

I have seen a lot of Sam Bone and i don't think he is quite good enough.

Maybe we ought to hold fast on judgement a little longer. His size belies his age, I don't think he is even 18 until November or something.

I am never wrong Seth, i think the Club could do worse than appoint me as Chief Scout. I have all the qualifications needed, i am very cheap.

  • No coincidence all these youth players are being signed up to contracts, up to the first team squad they go. We won't fill many of the gaps with experienced pro's.

Not sure that's entirely fair, there's no point having a youth system unless you sign a few up as pros!

We do seem to sign up a much higher percentage these days though. I have only seen the u21s and u18s a few times over the past couple of seasons and it would appear that we have a genuinely good crop coming through but do all those signed up deserve contracts in the opinions of the more avid spectators on here? I'm not saying that with any disrespect to any of the lads, I just know Roland and his master plan....

Maybe more to do with having a viable u21 side.

For that you need a squad of players. Not all will make it.

I surprise how rarely the likes of Sarr or Cebellos etc play for the U21s.

Out of favour yet don't get a run out.

Sarr is only 22 or 23 for example.

Seemed to be more overage players in the squad when Powell was here.
  • Dilton Philips two year deal confirmed on OS.

A surfeit of keepers as it stands

The PL giants have masses of young players on professional contracts. The likes of Chelsea could field several teams with all the young players on their books!

I don't think Charlton's retention rate is unusual, the only difference is that our youngsters have historically (other than the PL days) got a chance in the first team

I have often thought he might ultimately be the one to come through, but judgement isn't easy. Dillon doesn't stand out as huge, or eye catching in other ways, but he would always put in a 7 at least whenever I have seen him, and he likes a penalty save. Keepers thrive on experience, and his season at Cheltenham will have made an impact on him, keepers tend to get better when they're a bit older anyway in my view.

It looks like the regime want to off Hendo which is a (another) great shame and smacks of cost cutting if it happens.

I imagine Hendo will be on the highest wages of all out keepers, and Pope does seem to be hot property, so Dillon could easily be 3rd or even 2nd choice next season
  • Henderson ... Sold
    Pope ... 1st Choice
    Dmitrovic ... Network Loan
    Mitov ... Conference Loan
    Phillips ... 2nd Choice

Is how I see it next season

Rumour: Charlton's Marko Dmitrovic interesting Deportivo La Coruna? marca.com/futbol/deporti… #LaLiga  #EPL

I think that is one the long term consequences of not having a reserve side.

No one has a reserve side any more though.

    No reserve leagues only U21s

It's not so much the retention rate as the length of the contracts being offered to some of the youngsters that has raised eyebrows.

But that could also be a reaction to having the likes of Poyet run down his contract, which is just as bad.

Besides, a home grown youngster on a 4 year contract is unlikely to be earning anything like as a much as a Naby Sarr...
