They have now changed it. £550 for my seat is extortionate.

You're failing to see what Roland and Katrien can see. It's great value.

Two more home games than this season
A chance that you might actually see some home wins (not guaranteed)
The opportunity to freely move around the ground as the game progresses
same 23 league home games as this year.
Fewer of those inconvenient midweek games then, we we can play on Saturday during the international breaks!
And extra FA Cup match(es) PLUS don't we get in the Paint Trophy thing as well. Cup overfloweth.
    Extra FA Cup matches?!

It doesn't matter which round we start in - Round 1 or Round 3 (or 4th Qualifying Round in a couple of years' time) - we don't normally win more than two cup matches a season!
Woah, slow down, we can 'win' matches now? Someone better tell Roland.

I don't have a reliable figure so don't hold me to it, but the suggestion last Saturday was 3-4,000. That also feels about right to me.

Notably, no increase in prices in the lower north or for kids. That's sensible, but contradicts what they said last week to sell the tickets, which is dishonest, amazingly.

For me, that's disappointing. I had hoped that fellow supporters would have held off longer before deciding to buy. Those 3,000 plus ST renewals with keep the regime's head above water for a couple of months. I was hoping they were going to start sinking after a couple of weeks ...
Or, those 3,000 ST renewals demonstrate to potential buyers that there is still a loyal fan base that will turn up no matter what, and if there are 3,000 of them then the potential for further renewals is probably twice that
  • Does anyone know, if 3k have renewed, how that compares with this time last year?
  • Still 3K (maybe 4 or 5K at most by August) must be the lowest amount of season ticket holders we have had since the mid 90s?
  • To be fair we can't have it both ways. We can't complain when they put the prices up and also complain when they say they are going to put the prices up and don't.

They made a decision to bring out the big guns by saying the prices will go up and all tickets would go on general sale last week, they would have looked even more stupid had they extended it - which is what has happened in the past. However, it seems that one can still not buy a season ticket online, so they haven't, exactly, followed through with the general sale threat, yet.

I, actually, think that under the circumstances 3,000 plus is a result for KM and RD. If you work on the basis that we have 10,000 season ticket holders currently, and there was an average 3,000 no shows before CARD was formed and the protests started it could be argued that their approach has worked. Add in all those that have 'suggested' that they will renew before the season starts and the total, come August, might be positively respectable.

Sure, the total income will be reduced if many fans move to cheaper seats, but they might still be able to get close to as many season ticket holders that we had in League One the last time. I also wonder if the cheap North Lower seat prices will be increased once fans start to like it there.

I know I'm likely to get it in the neck for this but I'm not convinced that those supporting CARD's efforts can call this a win - and I'm including myself in that group.
  • To be fair we can't have it both ways. We can't complain when they put the prices up and also complain when they say they are going to put the prices up and don't.

We are Charlton fans, finding any excuse to complain is what we do.

In seriousness though, if they knew what they were doing they would not have said that prices were definitely going up, they should have pre-empted the fact that we have being likely to be relegated for months now and at least added a caveat that prices would be subject to review or frozen once we were relegated.

Yet more evidence of how dysfunctionally this club is being run.

Seeing as the club were predicting a 1500 drop in ST sales I think it is a huge win.

Even if they figure creeps up to around 7000 (my prediction before and still based mainly on guess work) that is still a 30% drop in sales which in any business is huge.

Given that ticket sales will now be a far bigger percentage of earned income with the cuts in central funding (TV money etc) it is an even more of a blow for the regime.
I agree, but football is not a normal business and I can't think of a comparable event in a different sector but I suspect that the average attendance in League One is less than half that of the Championship so it is conceivable that most clubs see a significant drop when relegated from the second tier to the third tier.

And to add the regime can't be sure that there will be another 3 or 4k of sales before the season starts.

There is likely to be some uptake before kick off but they can't be sure or how much and so any budget planning will be chaos. That means asking Roland to front up more cash to cover costs which he won't like.
Agree it's a huge failure for the club. Can't understand why you can be so negative on this. Income is all that's relevant, not how many seats are sold. Whatever incentive is used to attract buyers it will have a cost.

Agreed. The mistakes were all made before the deadline for the early bird discount - something that became somewhat irrelevant when they announced that all seats would go on general sale. In any normal universe keeping one's seat is more important that saving £25 for buying two or three months earlier.

It was the shift from buy now, save money to buy now or we'll take away your seat that was the biggest mistake and might prove to be more costly if some seats are sold and the original occupiers come back in July and refuse to commit for a whole season in another seat.

Time will tell, but they've messed everything else up so it should come as little surprise.

Yes but the club will have looked at the last relegation and felt that this would be the same. It isn't as yet again they haven't faced up to reality.

They can't do anything about the central income (TV and league sponsorship)

They could have done something about ticket sales and local sponsorship but are failing dramatically on both because they have so alienated the fan base who contribute to both.

Hence the Heads of Comms and Marketing walking when yet again their jobs were made impossible by Roland's rant.

The 3,000 missing is more complicated than this (and Mandy was probably wrong anyway to cite it as an average, but that's her problem). There has always been a differential of about 2,000 because not all season ticket holders go to all games - a number will be U11s, miss midweeks or simply buy an ST for convenience when they can go. It is not, primarily, an indication of alienation or an obstacle to renewal.

Fair enough Airman but I've read loads of posters using this number as an indication as to how badly they are running the club. I've also seen it used, several times, to predict a collapse in season ticket sales.

I must remember to remind myself that lots of posters on here talk $hit to suit their agenda.
  • I think we have 10,000 season ticket holders.

If we can get this down to 7000 for the start of the season I am certain we will see published gates of 10,000.

The away followings are drastically reduced as will be pay on the day fans.

Anything more than 7000 season ticket holders will be disappointing to see given the s*** that has been going on.
  • General sale online will commence tomorrow apparently.
  • Breathtaking arrogance and complacency unless it comes with a £100 off all round tag and announcements about the plans of the club.

So the web site says that season tickets are now on general sale, but when you click on the link it says that season tickets are not on general sale and that you should call the club.

Clearly they are not offering current season ticket seats up yet - if they ever intended to, of course!

    Edit:
My mistake it seems that the page saying they are not on sale if the finance option. The normal ticket page just shows a blank screen.
  • Saturday will be my final home game until these vermin have departed.
It's going to be a miserable occasion and, I don't mind saying, a bit emotional.
What has it come to when people like me, who have lived and breathed Charlton all their lives, are driven away from something they hold so dear.
Congratulations you arrogant, deceitful bastards - I detest you and everything you stand for.

    This, This and this again

So if I purchase a season ticket just before the season starts does that make me a traitor?

Just for clarification, if I don't purchase a season ticket but I purchase the odd ticket for games does that make me a Traitor?

I just want to know where I stand.
