Twickenham was good yesterday - cracking but very expensive day out.
Also met someone fairly high up at the Football League and had an intresting drunk chat about Charlton 's TV game selection etc. Basically nobody watches us when we're on.
Yeah not many people want to watch football at 11 am on a Sunday
I bet there will be a lot of people watching sky at about 11.30 next Sunday
Having just watched the highlights, what a stupid tackle by Baur to get sent off! Their was no way he was going to get that.
Disagree
I have re-watched it three or four times and he pulls his foot away at the last minute. The ref has completely bought what the player was selling and given Bauer an unfair booking IMO.
Is that bergdych wearing gloves and getting outjumped for the goal?
I think JBG has been found out in some respects. Don't get me wrong he is a great player at this level but every time he gets the ball he cuts inside and Reading looked very prepared for this.
I think the real issue is players are ready for JBG as he has two options:
1* Run up the wing ping in a cross to... no one arriving.
2* Cut in and look for the pass along the floor or shoooooooot.
Terrible goal to concede. No attempt to stop the cross, no attempt to mark the man running in. And a defender wearing short sleeves and gloves. Not sure which of these is the worst crime.
I hope Luzon doesn't play a defensive game, away from home all season because that is not going to keep us up! Reading were very good on the break but showed little else. A very depressing game for the forwards and there moral must be very low. McAleny offers very little to the team and I think a reserve player could do that job.
Was somewhere with no internet all weekend so I missed everything to do with the match. From a quick glance through it seems that we lost (again, obviously), we deserved it, things aren't great, and this place didn't go into meltdown. Well done everyone.
Feel like this weekend tells me I would live a happier life if I had no access to Charlton Athletic. Maybe I'll look into that

What else is there in life to get excited about, with huge anticipation and expectancy every day?
I was there, although sat in the home end which made my afternoon even more miserable. We were poor, no denying it, however I don't understand Luzon getting criticized for playing for a draw - yes it is a negative approach (and goes against what he said earlier in the season regarding always going for the win), but we are in a pitiful run of form, with no confidence at all and numerous injuries/form/fitness issues, away to one of the form teams in the league, who are in the automatic promotion places. What else could Luzon realistically do?
Had Bauer not been sent off by the card-happy ref, we would IMO have taken a point. No denying the negative approach but a draw is what the vast majority of us would have gladly taken before hand. I can only remember Pope making 2 saves, the BBC stats showing twenty something efforts from Reading must include some high balls claimed by Pope and blocked shots etc which were never close to troubling him.
Yes we were poor and offered little going forward - no one enjoys traveling/paying to watch their team play with a main priority of not to concede, as opposed attacking every team full throttle - unfortunately we're Charlton Athletic not Real Madrid - we don't have the luxury of being able to approach all games like that, especially away to a decent team under the current circumstances. But Reading didn't put Pope under any real pressure and were it not for a rather unlucky sending off we'd have come away with a point.
An obvious point but the more critical games are tomorrow and Saturday - both games in which Luzon must approach aiming to win, not setting up to get a point (which was the case against Reading). No excuses.
The key challenge for Luzon is to work out what on earth has happened to the likes of Watt and JBG - players that in theory are fully fit, but are offering nothing at a time when we so desperately need them. The sign of a truly good manager is that he knows how to get the best out of his key players, which isn't happening at the moment and is what he will ultimately be judged on in the next week.
The problem is, if you are an offensive player in this team, you cant do it alone. Luzon has to find a way to present more of a threat through the team and Watt and JBG will have more freedom. At the moment, Preston probably will have already highlighted the three players they need to stop to nullify our threat. Then as the crowd gets restless and we take risks, they can take advantage.

By the looks of it, if Reading knew how to finished they would have thrashed us!
I haven't seen a replay but didn't think it was at the time and don't expect a replay of it would change my mind on that.

Very good header from the reading player though.

Would have been nice to see our shot on goal...
