Excellent defence. We should have killed it off with JBG's one-on-one. Pope needs help to stop spilling the ball. If he can't fix that he'll never make it as a top class 'keeper so I hope it gets sorted. Makienok reminds me so much of Carl but I suspect there's a better player to come.
I'm writing this while watching Cardiff-Wolves and I'd say, whilst not wishing to summon the devil of hubris, that we have nothing to fear from Wolves.
Cracking game. Big mak is blond Andy Carroll, can see him becoming a big favourite. Very impressed with Bauer, ba and kashi of the new players. JBG a class apart in this league. Diarra also excellent today. Clearly squad is 2 or 3 players short for a promotion push but fantastic start to the season.
I thought we were slicker technically than last year. The first half we didn't really get going but in the second we seemed to find space as the game opened up.
Makienok started a little tentatively but as the game went on he really started to come into his own.
Overall I thought we shaded it but we sat back in the final quarter and got punished. Pope - not the villain - an assured performance - marred only by the spilled shot which was a result of a defensive lapse that saw their player in space inside the box.
A fantastic climax. Respect to the timekeeping of the officials. 8 minutes plus was right but how often have we seen games with lots of stoppages only get 4 or 5 minutes.
I have a good feeling about this team. The spirit is huge and that bodes well for the season.
Diarra was superb, lost our way a little when Ba went off and the only slight criticism was he should of moved Cousins straight to CM because Cook was like a lost boy when he came on and our midfield opened up. Kashi is fecking excellent and drives the team on, Big Mak well done son take no notice of the haters because you offer the side another outlet that has been missing. Deserved win onwards we go COYR
"This was an important win for the club, for the fans, for everyone. (On Makienok) "He has been playing very well but not scored. I know his quality and knew he would score, as he did. It was an important goal but he also helped us in other ways."
Hull City boss Steve Bruce:
"Funnily enough I felt the longer the game went on we were the team more likely to win it. Don't get me wrong, for an hour they deserved to win the match. "The first half was probably the worst I have seen in a long time, whether it was the heat or what I don't know but it was awful. "For 30 minutes against Fulham we were superb and if we play like that then there won't be many teams that can beat us. However, if we play like we did against Charlton for an hour then there won't be many teams who won't beat us."
I do have a lot of time for Steve Bruce. A good manager who knows the game inside out and I believe has been successful for the clubs he's managed.
What a win though. I would have been happy with a point before the game. I thought we would have to hold on for that. We didn't. Our defensive structure is very good. Our pressing is very good. In the first half there were not a lot of chances from either side but that was because we generally had them in our pockets without risking too much.
I was surprised to see Ba substituted and surely it must be because he wasn't fully championship match fot. That gave them an entry back into the game they didn't deserve.
Ultimately very happy with 3 points. Can hardly believe it.
Hmmmmm how gutted I am can't get to a game until reading and Leeds festivals are de rigged, in Clacton now after doing stuff at v and met up with the family, now all those who sounded like we may as well give hull the points have some faith in your team and Mgr it just feels different to me this season don't know what it is but I have that feeling it could be wind, it may be last night's curry but I am well up for the fall out regardless of what it is
Get in there the big dane so pleased he scored after the dissenters started to make noises
Gutted for Pope but that's the risk with a young rookie keeper, they will make mistakes and in the championship they will be punished by better teams, the pics of the winning goal being celebrated that's what it means to them all, strap yourselves in we had the hardest start of all teams and so far have done the business, Hull, qpr, forest, Derby will all be there or there abouts they are massive wins and draws there already and they will all know we are the real deal
A thoroughly deserved win and great testament to the players' character after the hammer blow of the late equaliser. We were the better side by some distance in the first half - with Kashi, in particular, dominating midfield - but we let ourselves down in the final third with a lack of composure, although the lack of incisive combination play was hardly surprising, given the loss of Tony Watt.
A great goal at the start of the second half transformed Simon Makienok into a Nordic god and you could see how much it meant to him after his barren season out in the cold at Palermo. Cult status beckons. Hull couldn't control him after that and we could, and should, have finished them off but couldn't get the decisive second. There was alway a concern about the last 15 or 20 minutes in this heat and, sure enough, we got pushed back, without giving Hull too much of a sniff. The loss of Ba gave them more space and they finally started to press forward with intent.
It looked as if Popey's error had handed Hull a thoroughly undeserved point but the team showed huge desire and character to go again and get ourselves back in front, just when it looked as if the tank was empty.
Our shape was excellent throughout, save near the end when we started to run out of juice and Luzon and his coaching team have drilled this group of players exceptionally well. A very smart switch in injury time to move Regan Charles-Cook to right back and push Jordan into midfield.
We were down to the bare bones today and ended up with a 17 year old up front and an 18 year old in central midfield. Unlike Hull, we didn't have the luxury of a £12 million substitute to bring on but no one who watched that game can credibly dispute that we were the better side.
For me, Kashi was man of the match, although after a tepid first half when not much came off for him, Simon Makienok was magnificent in the second after he got his goal. A big shout also to Diarra - who was a real leader at the back - and Patrick Bauer, a player who is so good that I am starting to take him for granted. Incredible that the guy is only 22.
Very proud of the lads today and absolutely loved Guy's crazy passion at the end (as my son remarked, reminiscent of Jose Mourinho's famous run down the touchline at Old Trafford following Porto's late winner). What a marvellous afternoon.
To the few around us who took off when they equalised, you deserve to have missed the best ending to a match bar none! People are going to rave about Big Mak - he won more battles than not and his headed flick-ons were a constant threat. However Diarra and Bauer were immense and they rarely gave Jelavic and Akpom a sniff. It was only when the midfield tired in the heat that they came under more pressure and Hernandez started getting more space. Despite that they still kept their composure. Diarra was my MoM for some fierce and clean tackling and his total composure. No way would we have got anything out of a match like that last season. Luzon has made some great signings, but special mention to Callum Harriott when he came on. He got into some great positions and caused the pressure that lead to JBG's goal. Get in!!!
Just read match thread. Some of you are hilarious. Heaping blame on Pope when if JBG had scored we would have been 2-0 and cruising. And in general his handling was great and was doing fine. And criticizing Charles Cook? His debut and coming on at a difficult time. He may not be good enough but he did his best. Some of you need to listen to yourselves.
Pray tell, why should criticism be withheld? As long as it is valid and not abusive, I have no problem with it.
fantastic and very memorable game made so by all the drama at the end and luzon has to take a lot of credit for instilling a winning mentality especially with watts absence. The most memorable moment was Makienok's goal and celebration which encouraged us all. It's not often you get the whole crowd singing after the final whistle and for for some time. Makienok like most strikers relies on confidence to play well and i hope this gives him enough confidence to take more chances. I thought our shooting today was dire and it felt like the two most firmly hit attempts went in. Everyone in the end had a good game even if makienok before the goal was poor. I am so glad Gudmundson, Bauer, Fox, Kashi, Cousins are with us. Great game , great time. Well done everyone.
I don't suppose a lot of people are going to give Zakarya Bergdich the credit for that victory, but credit where credit is due. The rather officious ref books Bergdich for going to the far touchline just before being subbed to do that long trudge thing, booked for timewasting, and then gives an enormous 8 minutes of injury time, happy days, I know Bauer got a lengthy injury but I am glad he was able to put the finger up to the ref and Hull when we got the winner. Before I go on to what was an incident packed afternoon, a word about Hull, I thought they were pretty crap, and it was our questionable fitness (maybe it was the heat) plus them chasing an equaliser and us defending a lead which invited them on. I have not seen the Hull goal, but it followed KAG showing naivety upfield, a near thing, and then possibly a fumble by Pope...would like to see it again, because it was a killer at the time it happened. Hull were supposed to have expensive prem players, tempered in the steel of the top league, but really they were second best for all but about 15 minutes of the game. Charlton dominated the first half, most of the second half, and today was the fruit of daring to win not fearing to lose, a wonderful team effort set in motion by excellent motivation and management from Luzon. Now the rest. In no particular order, Luzon was I believe sent to the stand, and had to be restrained somewhat, after we scored. Bauer is simply wonderful, dislocated finger? 'Pah, I spit on das dislocated finger, Ich will carry on', he had a great game and is now consistently putting in a series of excellent performances. Diarra was pretty much as effective as he has been all season, Cousins at right back was needs must, he was shifted in a positive way, switching with RCC after the Hull equaliser, as a positive Charlton still wanted to win it. Morgan Fox is playing well enough now to be taken for granted rather than be feared as a liability. All I can say is there must be two Kashis as he is everywhere, the other players must absolutely love him, because if anybody messes up, Ahmed is there to take care of it, superb game from a superb signing. Ba was a little more energised than usual, and JBG was very good throughout. Bergdich is a little wasp on the wing, and is another absolute tryer, Cebellos was unlucky, but I thought generally KAG was decent. And Simon, he always seems to get better as games unfold, was a total pain for Hull, and a sweet sweet glancing headed goal set up by JBG, I believe he returned the favour for JBG's headed goal. The goal celebration from Mackie was lengthy and entertaining, including tears, collapse, a brief sacrifice and worship of Odin, and then up and on with it. Simon is going to be an enigmatic player, and the comparisons with Carl Leaburn are pretty valid I think. What a great day, what a great win...worth stacking the memory of how good this feels against the cold chill of possibly harder times ahead, for now guys fill your boots full of the good vibes. ,
Happy, happy days! Don't even mind that I'm now on the train with a load of stinking Nigels. Well I do but not much I can do about it.
All been said already really. Our two c/h were awesome today, first look at Kashi who looks a terrific acquisition to the team and Big Si looks like the closest thing we've had to Leaburn since, well Leaburn.
Seriously ran out of steam in the last 25, probably due to having to make early subs and wasted a couple of opportunities to run the clock down in the corners but churlish to grumble about anything tonight.
Great stuff today , they got exactly wot they deserved nothing , we totally outplayed them all the lads superb , happy for Big MAK off the mark keep it up lads ,
I felt the first half was one of the dullest I've seen for a while. We totally dominated but failed to make the most of the positional opportunities where I think we got too anxious.
Second half we looked much more threatening and deserved the lead. Ba going off was a big game changer and it was no surprise that Hull equalised irrespective of Pope's error.
When the 8 min injury time sign game up I would have bitten your hand off (or indeed any part of your body) for a draw but wow wow wow!
Special mention to Big Mak who I thought had a bad 1st half. His effectiveness in the second half won this game, great testament to his character. My jury on him came back in as the clock turned 100 minutes. The verdict is that he is worthy of his place in the team. I reckon he'll get better still as his confidence improves and the team 'gels' more.
@Northlondonaddick I know I've been less than complimentary about some of your posts but today I doff my hat to you.

D ain't missed a game yet gonna tell ya mate we av a good side , f--k the pundits they get paid good money and know shit all in my eyes , we are patient with the ball , break up play when we need to , Bauer different class so commanding , we could be a surprise this year mate , its early doors but I really feel we could be in the mix , maybe it could be our year ?
I was expecting Hull to go on to score the winner after they equalised, so an amazing turnaround to get the winner. A suburb effort to grab the 3 points, especially with our very weak bench today. Bringing on RCC when we were hanging on showed the lack of options. We needed someone like Jackson to come on, rather than a kid.
Bruce will be disappointed with the 2 goals they conceded, to me they looked like they did last season, much the same team really, solid but lacking the goal threat they ought to have.
Fantastic atmosphere all through the game, the best I can remember. Well done the crowd.
We are becoming hard to break down - sign of a good side. In defense Diarra and Baur are looking the real deal. Thought Kashi and Ba were brilliant today.
Makienok - our viking, gives us another dimension, so pleased he's scored his deserved goal. Bet he was praying to Odin on the pitch after the game!
Luzon has got the team working so hard for each other, - again a sign of a good side. Ok, we do need a couple more squad players.
Before the injuries it looked to me we were playing 3 at the back? anybody else think that.
On the train home after the game, even the delays at London Bridge can't wipe the smile off of my face.
We dominated the first half and should have taken more of our chances, was gutted when Hull equalised as personally felt that we deserved the win.
Our week subs bench clearly showed, the boys tried hard but the inexperience was obvious as once we made changes we sat back and invited Hull to come forward, however the 98th minute winner was well deserved and gave me the birthday present that I was hoping for.
Kashi is gonna be a legend, so comfortable on the ball against a strong Hull midfield.
Great start to the season, well done all the boys, CAFC!
Pope is a great stopper, is gaining confidence with mid height and higher crosses but his distribution will always be poor which is sad.
Felt his distribution today was one of the key factors when we controlled the game... Every time he had the ball he quickly threw it out meaning we could counter and I've not seen Goalkeepers at Charlton do that for a while.
I need to see it again but wondering if the Hull goal was Pope's mistake as much as everyone think it was.
If hit at the right height and pace, the ball can bounce off a Goalkeepers chest and because it isnt at the right height the 'keeper then cant just gather in their arms so maybe more credit should be given to Clucas...? Regardless though I do think Pope will be one of the best English Goalkeepers one day but moments like this will stop him from becoming World Class, by which I mean he had nothing to do all match and because of that maybe had a moments lapse in concentration, the best 'keepers have nothing to do all game yet because they stay alert the whole time, they'll make the big saves when needed

Couldn't make the game unfortunately - checked at 90 mins and thought - bollocks!!! And then what?????????
This is our year guys and gals - this is our year.

The good - everyone for effort on a searing day and for making a premier team look ordinary:
The bad - proof that we have big holes in the squad that need filled
The ugly - Bauer's fingers. My bollocks went right up into my tum tum watching that. What a warrior (and a damn fine player)
The ....mental - Guy Luzon. You sir in the words of Mr a Parttridge are a fcuking mentalist!!!! But I'm growing to love you. What a celebration.
Full response later when I've calmed down.
