Nearly crashed my car celebrating the final goal. I suppose everyone now has forgiven Pope lol. Sounded as though we were the better team for most of the game. Could not be happier for Big Mak getting his first goal, it was exactly what he needed. 8 minutes of stoppage time suprised me but how about that ending!! Never a dull moment supporting Charlton is there!! Great game, great result, come on you Addicks!!
My heart is still pounding, feel bad for doubting the lads when i read each teams starting line ups.
Makienok the hero today, what a second half performance from him, get in!
Felt sorry for Pope though, sure he spilled it but i was getting really angry with the rest of the team, as despite Hull not showing much threat, we just started sitting back and i could see the Hull goal coming, other then that one mistake thought Pope had a solid performance.
Days like this are why football is the best sport in the world.
Don't get to see us that often now with family commitments on a weekend so thoroughly enjoyed that. Kashi and Big Mak brilliant, thought Ba was very good too. Happy for Pope as well that it wasn't costly. All very positive apart from the injuries.
No Watt, no Solly and no Henderson, yet still beat arguably the best team in the division.
Feel sorry for the people that fell out of love with Charlton in recent times, because you're missing probably the best team we've had since the Premiership.
We were superb in a lot of areas today but we didn't always link them up. Defence were untroubled in the first half and then strong in the second until Hull's goal and Ba's substitution. After that we started leaving huge gaps in front of the defence and our shape broke a bit. That's likely due to having to make so many changes before and then during the match. Makienok was a bit hit and miss in the first half when Bergdich was killing them down the left but was unreal in the second half once our wing play was more subdued. Despite the team not always firing all over at the same time one thing we had from the first to the 98th minute was an incredible amount of desire and belief that we could still win the game. To put in a goal like that after just narrowly avoiding going 2-1 down thanks to the linesman's flag is exactly what you want to see from your players and we can be really proud of all the boys and Luzon today.
With Ceballos and Ba going off we'll have to hope they aren't long term lay-offs as we saw today just how badly a couple of injuries can make our bench look ineffectual. KAG still makes the wrong decisions when in space, RCC was chucked into a really difficult period in the game and Harriott was actually positive and stretched them a bit towards the end but still isn't what we need coming off the bench. We definitely need a few more signings.
Pope should absolutely not get any stick for today. I've said it on other threads but he was confident claiming everything Hull threw at him until he was badly let down by his defence for the goal. The shot that hit the post apparently wasn't warning enough and we let them have another seconds later that Pope was never going to hold. He's spilled some dodgy shots before but this was one that he was never going to cling to and he's really unfortunate that Hernandez was allowed to swan onto the end of the rebound with no defensive intervention. Kashi was superb but he needs to look at his positioning for their goal, particularly after the woodwork was hit.
Makienok was definitely man of the match and I think if he'd had Watt up there with him we wouldn't have needed to take this into injury time. Bottom line is we were very good in patches and showed incredible heart. We just need to pad out the squad a bit and wait for some players to come back and we'll look deadly. 2 points a game is promotion form folks
wasn't there of course but a win that I expected, NOT in the dramatic way it unfolded though .. we are gonna keep this up, we are a team to be reckoned with this season .. new blood, new vigour .. watching Wolves on TV now .. they are there for the taking .. Jackett (no tie required) has no idea what is his best starting team
Watched on a very poor stream (picture wise, but sound was good). Thought we outplayed them, we were more hungry for it as well. Good pushing and chasing down, Mack made himself a real pain in the arse, then scored and set the final goal up, JBG was excellent as was Baur and Diarra in defence, Kashi is just an amazing find and Cuz played well as a stand-in RB. Overall a great performance and every single one one of the 15 used should be proud of themselves.....GET IN!!
Very nervous coming into the game with three quality strikers out (watt, vetokele and reza). First half gave me confidence we can play against a very good team. Second half so pleased to see Big Mak score and be so pumped when he was announced and the crowd cheered.
Only downside for me was my boy was desperate for the toilet and we had to go after the hull goal. On the way out of the ground we heard the cheers for the LBG goal and thought we had a draw. The hull fans told us we had won. Unbelievable result. Well played.
Have always told the boy we don't leave before the end and now he understands why.
That was a really gutsy performance from the lads. The heat was not conducive to playing football. As a regular viewer of the U18s and U21s it was great that Cousins, Fox, Charles- Cook, Ahearne- Grant and The Harriott's were on the pitch at the end. I was also so happy for the latest scapegoat Big Mak who put in a great shift and scored his first goal.
I wonder if the ref would have given a pen, when we scored the second had it not gone in? The Hull player made no attempt for the ball and just took JBG out. We'll never know and who cares!
No Watt, no Solly and no Henderson, yet still beat arguably the best team in the division.
Feel sorry for the people that fell out of love with Charlton in recent times, because you're missing probably the best team we've had since the Premiership.
Get those three back and a fully fit Igor and we're in for a good season! :-)
What a game and what a determined, disciplined and courageous performance from every single player who took part today. Hull were a massive disappointment. Looked like a team of Premiership players who expect their opponents to roll over and die. To maintain the effort in the sweltering heat was magnificent.
With of course the utmost respect to those I name, to end the game with Pope, Regan-Cook, Harriott, Ahearne-Grant on the pitch against the likes of Jelavic, Dawson, Davies and Aluko and still have the desire to get a winner is testament to all involved.
Luzon is as mad as a box of frogs but what great entertainment he is.
We definitely deserved to win today. Hull did have some chances but so did we and we took the two that mattered. Given the players we're missing this is a superb win.
Man of the match is Makienok. One or two dodgy touches but everything else was brilliantly done. His goal was perfect, the quintessential example of what players like him should do. He laid a long ball off into the path of Gudmundsson, made his way into the box and met a delightfully floated cross with a header into the far corner. You could see what it meant to him. His role in the winner was equally accomplished, knocking down a long ball for Gudmundsson, who stooped to conquer. The celebrations will live with me for a long time.
Kashi also deserves a lot of praise; he tidies up the midfield very well and passes securely for the most part. Ba was doing good things too before coming off, though I was less impressed with Bergdich who is rather ungainly with the ball, whilst Cousins made the kind of mistakes that can't be explained simply by being out of position. Charles-Cook has a lot of developing to do.
Pope will be very disappointed with the goal but was OK otherwise. Having Bauer and Diarra in front of him clearly makes a big difference in terms of his confidence. Both were excellent, as we've come to expect, Bauer playing on despite a dislocated finger.
Gudmundsson showed his value by being the matchwinner despite not contributing much else, particularly in the second half. Ahearne-Grant proved a good outlet and doesn't lack confidence, although his composure in front of goal needs some work. I really think this could be a big season for him.
Hull weren't much cop until Hernandez came on. Huddlestone especially was anonymous, testament to the tenacity of our midfield. Nevertheless, beating them without Watt, Igor, Solly and Henderson is a big achievement. The crowd was completely supportive and sang long after the final whistle.
A fantastic win. Everyone worked hard and can't complain aside from a shocker from Pope. Brilliant game for Makienok, exactly what I've been wanting to see from him and great to see him rewarded with a goal and an assist.
everyone was fantastic, pope let himself down with the fumble as he had been a reassuring and commanding presence before that.
ahearne grant is going to be one hell of a player in a couple of years, just needs that better decision making but needs to keep that confidence. Made dawson and davies shit themselves a bit, and they are quality players.
Kashi is a great player, haven't seen a player break up play like that and then play a fantastic ball to set up an attack since parker.

RD out!
What a result against one of the strongest teams in the division.
So pleased for Big Mak.

Deserved that and glad they never came away with a point because that would of been daylight robbery

Well done lads.
For me highlights that we have depth in some areas and weakness in others.
Pope can not be second choice, if he would be playing 1-2 games a season maybe, but with Henderson's problems we need a much more assured number 2.
Charles-Cook isn't ready to be thrown in the deep end yet, although did play a lot better when he seemed to be moved to RB.
Makienok gives us something we didn't have last season, someone with size to play as a target man, and will continue to be a great asset.
Kashi never stopped giving it everything.
JBG should have got 2, but played fantastically throughout the game.
Great game, shows as well why you can't leave before the final whistle!
