Am I the only that thinks we have gone back to the old days when we have agreed decent signings in private (nothing announced yet) the money raised from the sale of Gomez will be used to finance, if other clubs know we have the cash from this sale they will make theie transfer fees higher.
Of course the owner can do as he please, and so can fans. Driving fans away has never been good business IMO. I'm not saying things will go one way or the other - just commenting on how I think things can be done better. If you cant do that on here without getting lectured, we might as well all pack up!
Absolutely right, Muttley. Some may call me gullible, but I believe that without RD's stupid revolving door policy on players and managers we could have kept him another year.
Hmmm, let me think. I'm at a lower half championship club with no revolving door policy on decent but unspectacular money and likely to be first choice. I'm not unhappy with that. Wait a minute, my agent tells me Liverpool and a host of other "big" PL clubs are willing to pay me enough to set my family up for life. Might get to play with some world class players too. No, I'll stay put because I really like the lack of a revolving door policy and the fact I'll be the biggest fish in the non revolving pond before you can say"who needs mega bucks". Thanks all the same.
Well if we (the club) can find out from Palace how they persuaded Bollassie to stay (and now become £30m rated) we might just learn something.
err Premier League helps doesn't it, ie you don't have to accept a bid if you have the funds coming in, also maybe Bolasie didn't have a release clause ?
err, back. Remember this game? I'd rather forget it, but I was there and it haunts me like a curse

as much as I didn't want Joe to leave I fully back his decision to do so, afterall most of us would accept a higher paid job at a top company if offered. I just hope that the money that comes into the club is spent in the club.
On Sky saying its a 3.5 million pound deal. It isn't and is actually a fair amount more than that. They also said he played for the u18s at 13! Again incorrect.
Undisclosed because it'd be silly of RD to let that figure show as fans would pummel him for not re-investing it into the squad in any fair/relative to this fee's form.
Good luck at Liverpool Joe, hope you go on to get your first England cap, I expect big things!

Very politely, may I enquire if you know that for a fact? Not wishing to sound rude, and very much wanting to believe you.
“It is with a heavy heart that we let him go, but we wish him all the best,” said Charlton CEO Katrien Meire on Gomez’s switch to the top flight.
“Joe is a very talented and humble young man and he has proven to be a shining light for our academy and a role model for all of the young players at our club.
“He is another fine example of what our fantastic academy is capable of.”
“Joe signed a new three-year contract with us last year and gave us an impressive first season in professional football,” she added.
“But with such huge ambitions, we could not stand in the way of this big opportunity which he wanted to take.
“Joe goes to Liverpool with our blessing and we wish him luck in what will surely be a very successful career.”
Gomez, meanwhile, wished to extend his thanks to the club and the supporters as he embarks on a new challenge in the Premier League.
“I’ve been here since I was 10 years old and it’s been a great experience,” he explained.
“The club have always looked after me and I will always be grateful.
“I’m excited for the new challenge at Liverpool and it’s an opportunity that I’ve only been given thanks to the experience that Charlton have given me.”
“I want to say thank you to everyone, especially the supporters,” continued Gomez.
“From the moment I made my debut in the first team I felt at home and I was able to just focus on playing.
“I’m proud to have come from this academy. People like [Academy Manager] Steve Avory have helped me all the way through and I will always be thankful to Charlton for making me the player I am.

But at that point he wasn't a 10 million pound player was he, Palace had a chance that season and took it and if truthfully honest, imho got very lucky in the play offs as Brighton played them off th epark twice and still lost, but if you do take your chance then it's a whole different ball game, you are then in a position to hold out for more money, but as a championship club if the top 6 come calling that is it job done.

My understanding, and hopefully I will have some more concrete news on it over the weekend is that the fee is more closer to 6 million with some add ons. As often happens the amount announced publicly is not always the overall price of the deal.

Sure not £10m , and not attracting the same attention or rave reviews as Zaha, but definitely attracting FAPL scouts. The point I'm making is that we could have considered doing the same thing. Building this season's team around Gomez and Cousins, and like Palace, making it into the FAPL. We'd probably then still sell Gomez (but for double what he's gone for today) but Cousins would be happy to stay. Maybe I am a trifle naive to believe in such a scenario, but it seems to me that is what Palace have done. And they are there on merit.

Thanks. Good news. Any info on a possible loan back?
Sky Sports News don't normally report the wrong figures tho and its them saying £3.5 M
Charlton wont say a price, no-one associated will say a figure and you have to wonder why
just seen Olly Groome tweet that £3.5M is wrong, how does he know, and why wont he tell us the real price then.
Unfortunately with nothing coming from the club I am starting to believe it could be as little as £3.5M
Because as a member of the comms team he can deny made up figures from media sources but it's not his job to report a figure, especially when the club don't want it being public knowledge.
Why don't they? Well as has been mentioned just short of a million times on here, we don't want potential targets having their fees inflated due to the fact they know a certain figure has just hit our bank balance.

Fucking hell. Is there anything between your ears paulie?
Sorry but with nothing coming from the club, as fans what are we supposed to believe if it really was undisclosed Sky Sports would say that, they always do
but they are not, they are saying it is £3.5M, sky sports would not say that without some proof otherwise they could be in trouble from the club, they are not stupid and will have researched it before putting a price

Saying all the right things. Won't stop a few calling him a see you next Tuesday or a greedy bastard but that's their problem not his.
