I'm glad I went today as it was my only chance whilst I'm over on holidays.

I caught up with a Blackburn lass in the royal oak pre game that I met at the ashes 4 years ago in Perth which was lovely and whilst talking to her about her time there a fella standing next to us overheard and it turned out he was an Aussie from Perth who had lived 2 streets away from one of the houses I'd rented!! On top of that we discovered that other Aussie fella with him is working with a mate of mine in the city!
    It's a Small world!
And to top it off I bumped into @Fanny Fanackapan‌ walking to the ground, it was a pleasure to see you again Jean!

That's the only pleasing part of the day unfortunately.

I can't add anything regarding the game that hasn't been posted.

What was most evident to me and so disappointing today was the obvious lack of willingness to battle and the lack of positive attitude from the team.
Ball possession was dire, the fight in the players was hardly there. 50/50 balls looked more like 80/20 to Blackburn.

We were slower, we tracked back at half the pace Blackburn broke forward with. We moved the ball ok at times, I'd say 10 - 15 minutes all up over the 90, but we were so so static for most of the game.

And it seemed to me they just argued with each other rather than support each other.

All these attributes, or lack of, stem from the manager, players play for the manager, and I watched Bob for a bit and he didn't not have the poise nor the body language of a man who's in complete control.

Is this RD's fault, or does the blame lay with BP.... With this regime I fear we will never know.

Really good to have seen you today, Christian ! Serendipity or what ?

Just sorry that today's performance is the one you'll "take back" with you to Oz.

Fingers crossed that it'll be a damn sight better next time you visit.

Take care & happy New Year !

  • Entitled to your opinion mate but I thought he could of helped out fox a little more today.
  • I don't think anyone could of helped fox out today , he's not good enough. But yeah like you say opinions ain't it . Still think Holmes Dennis will be 1st/2nd choice next season

Fox for that first goal on the highlights oh my god lol. Bob has absolutely killed the lad, take him out the firing line Bob, play anyone else.. to not even ATTEMPT to head a ball away in your own box is border-line illegal. What a shambles.

there 2nd goal was caused by our total fafing about in the righy of mid field on the half way line by the time the ball was played across our box the one player whose fault it WASNT was Fox. It was the centre backs and so called midfield who fecked it up on the half way line. No way would that shit have been seen on the micro seconds of TV

Gudmondsson scored a lovely freekick . It's a shame that all his other set plays were dogshit. Never known a player to score two worldys but not get the ball higher than 3 inches when taking corners etc . Fox is awful and needs to go out on loan somewhere . Jackson isn't getting any better and I thought buyens was poor tho the red was harsh. Cousins best player for me , and church didn't too bad considering . Other than that clueless. Feel sorry for piggot , he ain't ever gonna be given a chance is he . Being brought on 4 mins to go when losing is a joke! And as for the referee what an absolute arsehole.

0-2 Brighton written all over next Saturday

100% right about JBG's corners/free kicks into the box. One of my pet hates in players. How hard is it to get it over the first man.

He's also got too much pressure on him because he's our only attacking outlet at the mo. Everyone looks to him to do something. He's good, but he's not a Bale that he could carry us like he did Spurs etc.

Moving forward this is what I think we need

    Henderson

    Solly, Bikey, TBH, Wiggins

    JBG, MC, Buyens, LW

    Vetokele, CF

    So that's minimum 3 players.

I'll let people make their minds up over whether we have a strong DMC or more of a creative AMC. For me it's prob more of a DMC with pace and strength.

Cousins has got the pace. Not sure about his strength. But let's see what the change is if he gets a run in the middle. He deserves that chance I think

Agree. If the clip started a few seconds earlier you'd see Bikey completely out of position bumbling around all over their player but unable to even get a foot in after three chances.

  • From where I was sat the 2 footed sliding studs up tackle by Cairney on Fox deserved a straight red. Certainly looked worse than Harriot's last week.

Agree with other posters, Jacko or Buyens need a busy mobile partner next to them. Was reminiscent of Jacko playing with Dale today - some good moments, but not enough movement to match the opposition.

I know Fox was let down by Cousins for the second goal, but if he'd just had a look behind him then he could have marked their player out of it.

Fair play to Church, he did well feeding off scraps and looked to link with George.
  • Went out after the game so haven't read anything posted previously.

A couple of pretty valueless comments, but here they are:

Firstly, the bird in the North Lower sat directly behind the goal - Christ, you are fucking annoying. Banal comments every 20 seconds bellowed at the top of your voice, it was the most cringe-worthy thing I've ever seen at a football ground. Anyone sat nearby will doubtless agree. Strange strange behaviour - not sure where you sit every week but I'm glad it ain't near me!

Secondly, we were pretty guff. Quality goal from Gudmundsson a brief highlight. I don't understand how someone who can shoot as well as he seems to can take such poor corners on such a regular basis. Don't think he beat the first man all afternoon; but that was just one of maybe a dozen frustrating aspects of the afternoon.

The heavy loss at the casino hasn't improved my mood either! Oh well, bring on Brighton...
  • Seen the Buyens challenge and he gets the ball first and then his momentum takes into the player. One of those tackles that has been clamped down on in recent years. Would have escaped a few years back. But it's one of those you can't tackle now sadly.
  • Mickey Mouse competition anyway, was only a distraction to our promotion hunt. Wish Powell would play players in their correct positions though.
  • Bikey went on a ramble down the right, lost the ball, took ages to get back as usual and Blackburn exploited the gaping hole in our defense where he should have been and smashed in the second goal. Not Fox to blame at all.
  • To be fair, today was one of those games.

One of those games I will forget tomorrow, and not want to be reminded of ever again.

Roll on Saturday, please, a performance with desire, determination and drive.

That was a pretty dire and spineless performance. In truth, Blackburn outclassed us and the 2-1 score line flattered Charlton. We were totally outplayed in midfield and there were some poor performances at the back, as well as a lack of discipline from people like Bikey and - especially - Buyens, whose idiotic challenge cost us any remote chance of getting back into the game. He also now misses the key game against Brighton next Saturday.

It's difficult to draw any positives from that shambolic performance, but Etheridge did very well, Gudmundsson showed his usual touchs of class and Churchy and Tucadean combined well in the first half.

There do, however, appear to some deep rooted problems with this side and present and Bob Peeters really needs to sort them out or our downward spiral is going to continue. He also desperately needs some fresh blood - and not of the January 2014 vintage !

An apology for that abject performance wouldn't go amiss,

Then as soon as somebody tries to apologise, fans then always refuse to accept the apolgy. JS.
  • It was a Blackburn reserve team.and that makes it a lot worse!! I think only Marshall started their last game but could be wrong!!

  • Oh and next week Brighton have a good hander of the ball Bob in Lewis Dunk!! Oh dear
  • Fox has never looked like a first team player if I'm honest. Very suprised we never recalled the young lad from Oxford.

The thing that concerns me is the huge gap in quality from the start of the season, especially defensively. We look a fraction of the side and the personnel isn't that different.

    We won't go down though.

Hopefully he does a few handers and gets himself sent off!

    :---)
  • Now that was really bad. I have read the other posts and pretty much agree with most of what has been said. The formation and tactics were atrocious. Our players were second to the ball most of the game. What is going on in training? Are they unfit? Bikey is looking like a side of a house.

I really do believe Bob is losing it. There didn't seem to be any cohesion on the pitch. Three at the back with Cousins and Wilson playing as wing backs just wasn't working. No wonder Fox was caught between a rock and a hard place twice. Also, the Gomez for JBG substitution was beyond belief. Why substitute your most likely to score player with a defender, and then put another defender up in attack. Unbelievable.

I was also told by my mate who was sitting in the West Stand close to the dugout areas that the body language between JJ and BB was not good as they were coming off at half time. Bob was laying into Jacko apparently and JJ was not a happy camper. Also, in the 2nd half Bob was laying into TBH who also was not a happy camper at all. Now Bob tell me, why alienate your captain and also your most senior player in front of the watching public? That is not the best way to win friends and influence people.

I fear BB may be running out of ideas, getting frustrated and basically losing the plot. I hope I'm wrong of course but, in my opinion, the signs are not good.

Eventually my boys will realise the pizza after football is shit too and I won't have any more bullshit in my locker to drag them along to our boring proper shit football

I apologised to my son today after him having to endure what he has over the past few weeks. He's just 7 and it's his first proper season and i do feel like I'm putting him through it at the moment. I also said that I'd understand if he wanted to support another team (a complete lie-I wouldn't understand at all) but he replied "why would I want to support anyone else Dad?" He is my hero and I hope Charlton repay his loyalty next week and at Watford the week after.
You're a better parent than me . My 6 year old asked who granny and grandad supported when they were young (Man Utd and Fulham but both Charlton since I was young)
He then said I wonder who I will support when I'm older , I jumped down his throat immediately saying that it will always be Charlton because, unlike granny and grandad when they were younger , we go and watch Charlton so we HAVE to support Charlton and we are NOT allowed to change .
And I immediately tested his faith with do you want to come next week and he replied yes but it may be because of the pizza and chocolate cake at Prezzos on the way home rather than the excitement of the game .
  • Blackburn taught us another very good lesson today - how to move from defence to attack with quick, accurate moves: pass, control, run, receive - then run again to control the ball with basic skills, pass and move.

We are simply unable. May I give you an example? Our defender advances to the half-way line in oceans of space, passes centrally to our striker who has dropped short to receive - and gets it back. A good striker would control the ball, swivel, pass closely, advance to the box and shoot.

During the trajectory backwards, the Blackburn midfielder has challenged our man who had the ball in acres of space. The ball ricochets sideways to another kerfuffle on the wing, and possession is lost with a throw-in.

Would Solly and Wiggins have made a difference? Blackburn had Getafe and Jordan Rhodes champing at the bit on the bench. We were sliced apart in the second half by a team in our own division: Here they come again: it could easily have been 1-3 or 1-4.

We have a fabulously wealthy owner who purses his lips, twitches the curtains, and imagines that financial prudence is related to winning games of football. Consequently, we have a squad of players - on loan and through the academy - who are simply unable to trap the ball, to pass or to move, let alone to actually advance or score.

We also have 15,000 fans who insist on a bloody sight better than that.

Couldn't agree more. Except the 15000 supporters may be a lot less come season ticket renewal time if the prices go up and there has been no improvement to the squad or the current tactics persist.
