    Paddy, aaaaaah Paddy the player.
Not tricksy, no real pace, but a beautiful graceful player, intelligent, could really cross a ball well. It was wonderful to see him wave his foot across the top of the ball sending the opponent the wrong way, or on his arse. Relaxed would describe his style, but believe me he was effective and provided great balance in the team of his era.
Charlton Athletic complete and utter legend actually.

Very evocative Mr Plum. Brought at lump to the old throat that, Peacock, Hales and Flanagan... and we were young!

and mine and what a team, what memories, we scored em and we let em in, what fun
  • I heard he left Friday

    Robinson Crusoe
  • I had heard this too.

Was offered a slightly different role and was torn between whether to take it or to walk away and retire as his health wasn't great.

Sincerely hope the club looked after him

He's been working on that pitch for 15 years.

He's 66 in July. Hopefully he'll have a happy and long retirement and we'll see him at The Valley for every home game for many a year yet.

It was a great shame the defence was pretty crap overall as that attack was as good as it got in Division One.

    left on friday !

Look what you've gone and done @Brendan_O_Connell‌
Just to let you know, I had no inside information on this.

My day job is in mergers, acquisitions and restructuring, so I could sense somthing was on the horizon.

This type of thing happens all the time I'm afraid. When a company acquires another one, they do some evaluations and once the dust settles they make wholesale changes. I'm pretty sure there are more in the pipeline.

Sad to see Paddy go, but not surprised. Hope he enjoys his well earned retirement.

    No
  • Looks like the touch line has been marked out on the sand

I was at the Valley yesterday afternoon, and it looked like they had started to lay the first load of topsoil. Funny but they were playing Stings "Fields of Gold" over the Tannoy at the time, so someone must have a sense of humour.
  • Just a random thought.

Has anyone heard news of the Spivs lately?

    (Thinking Brookside... :-) )
  • What is the latest on the pitch?

    Is it green yet?

  • Set to be seeded tomorrow.
  • Thanks for the update guys.
  • Such a shame the undersoil heating won't be used until we are in the Prem, to expensive to run in the Championship, wish most outside companies would do that though like put the Water, Gas and Fibre optics and Lekki in at the same time just in case you might use it in the future so you don't have to dig the pitch up again !

Just love all the mole grips holding the pipes in place in that picture. I guess being moles they'll just be covered up and will continue working underground. As long as they don't start burrowing about leaving little piles of soil on the pitch.....

It can be used before, temporary boiler is linked up, and away you go. Give our friends at Andrews a call, and they'll supply the kit

  • Rothko Im sure it could be used before but recon they won't

If we draw a top Prem side in the 3rd round and the picth is covered in a perma frost then I reckon we might!
  • Missed some quality growing weather last few weeks
