I bet Paddy is having a few decent tea breaks at the moment.
Serious question: Do you reckon Paddy will be there next season? The new regime may want their own people in after spending a fortune on the pitch.
Also: with the greatest of respect to him, they may want someone younger and more accustomed to today's modern surfaces.
well, whoever it is, they better have more than a couple of pitch forks & a spade !! The attempts to get rid of the water against Donny was a joke & actually made the playing surface worse - the muddy bits with no grass on that were there in April were the result of too much scraping & squeeging on that August afternoon.

Sacrilege!! Now I know I take the piss out of all the know it alls on here, RD this, evil Dr RD that but touch my Paddy Powell you Belgium bun and i'll jump on Eurostar, head to yer head office Mr Douchelat and twat you straight in the kisser, promise yer!
AND there is NOTHING in the rumour that when the pitch was last relaid Paddy read the instructions wrong, "brown side up, green side down..."
If I were him after reading your comments II'd be upset that someone is wondering aloud whether my employers might think im too old for the job and worried if I was still going to have a job. And I'd really hate that someone has brought it up on a public forum.
But then loads of employees get talked about on here so I guess he shouldn't be treated differently.

Fair point, I didn't mean it to sound that way. I hope as much as you do that he continues for many years to come. I was just putting it out there that Roland and his new team seem to be making lots of changes.
Paddy is an experienced groundsman who has shown he is up there with the best given the right support - no way the owner will get rid. Paddy is also a Charlton legend and a fantastic player - for those too young to have seen him play!
It would be a great shame if paddy doesn't get the opportunity to work on the new pitch - he has worked terrifically hard over the last few years with very limited resources. He is Charlton to his core if he goes the same way as other long standing, committed staff the club would once again be losing one of its stalwarts.
If Paddy or a better placed source wants to correct me feel free but I do seem to remember hearing it mentioned he had a bit of a heart murmur last season so maybe will be stepping back a bit out of choice instead of nefariously forced out...
Paddy had us playing on one of the best playing surfaces for many years. He identified the issues long before the eventual mess we were left with last year, but neither Murray or TJ/MS did anything other than the bare minimum, which came back to haunt us.
He's got a great team around him and hope he's heading them up for a long time to come.
I was devastated when he left us as a player. Don't want to see that happen again.
Paddy, aaaaaah Paddy the player. Not tricksy, no real pace, but a beautiful graceful player, intelligent, could really cross a ball well. It was wonderful to see him wave his foot across the top of the ball sending the opponent the wrong way, or on his arse. Relaxed would describe his style, but believe me he was effective and provided great balance in the team of his era. Charlton Athletic complete and utter legend actually.

I guess I should leave it there though now eh? )
I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago before the works started and he was like a kid at Christmas. Couldn't wait to be given his new playing surface.

My all-time Charlton hero.

Very short sighted if so.
