He was an 'OK' CB. Would hope that we're looking for better than him anyway!
It puts those players, clubs and agents in a strong bargaining position, knowing that the club wanting the player has gaping holes that they urgently need to fill.
I would (for a change), like to see Roland at Charlton getting some strong players in before letting the decent ones go.
BTW RD had nothing to do with DD's contract, that was TJ and MS so those with an agenda need to get their facts right.
RD has as much to do with Kermogant, Hamer, Morrison and Dervite not signing a new contract as he has (to his credit) to do with Jackson and Wiggins signing new ones. The previous owners didn't do us any favours, but Duchatelet's had nearly 5 months to sort out the contracts so he's got no excuse.
What did you want him to do? Stick a gun to their heads?
Offer them a realistic deal so that they'd stay, rather than letting them go for zilch and then bringing in a few more Negos, Thurams and Kocs to replace them.
Now this is where you're argument falls down.
You are unhappy because you assume we will bring in worse.
Surely a sensible approach is to wait and see ?
Take your point. However, I've seen Kermorgant (8 goals in half a season) replaced by Reza (1 goal) and Stephens (4 goals, several assists) replaced Ajdarevic (1 goal, apparently unable to play for more than an hour at a time). Those were the two best players brought in by RD and they were well short of the players they were replacing. As for the rest of them, at best they were invisible, at worst they were comical. I won't go into the manager debate as it's been done to death, but I'm sure you can guess my feeling's on Powell's departure.
All the evidence so far has been negative, hence I'm pretty sceptical about everything at the moment. It would be nice to see something unquestionably positive happen.
How about Riga coming in and saving our season from what appeared to be the abyss? How the training ground developments being pressed on with and the strengthening of community links that was leaked last night? What about the half a million plus being spent on the new pitch and facilities?
On a non playing front, Mr Largo, the training ground plan, pitch and sponsorship are good news. Agreed that some positive and uplifting news on the playing front is needed. The close season has just started and it won't be too much time before a more solid judgement on Roland and the plans can be given.
Funny old game 4 months ago most would not of give a flying feck if Dorian left.
Dead right, Who could have foreseen how he upped his game under Riga Now I for one am disappointed if we are to lose him. Then again, 4 weeks ago people didn't want Sordell and Harriott in the team ever again. Like you say, funny old game.

And Riga saved us from relegation, which was nice.

Astrit had more than 1 goal and a few assists by the way .
If true he will be going because they ca or are willing to pay a lot more than Roland is going to do. If he sticks to the break even proposal then he will loose more players to clubs willing to pay over the odds, that includes target players as well.
Very gutted about this move, said he was our best centreback at the start of the season and Dervite's performances (I think) proved me right.
I agree that we'll struggle to get someone as good as him taking into account his young age and the fact that ball playing centre halfs seem like a rarity in this division.
Became one of my favourite players and I actually think that he had potential Premier League ability.
This looks like a very bad sign to me. Worse than the Yann episode in many ways.
Dervite was a key part of that post SCP fight-back and improved as a player under Riga so why would he choose to leave London to go to Bolton Wanderers?
Is the culture, cosmopolitan lifestyle and climate in Bolton just too much to resist?
Or, having worked his balls off to keep the team out of the poo did he not even get a contract offer?
Those waiting for his high profile replacement better not be holding their breath. Peanuts and monkeys.
But when JJ and Wiggins were signed it was all due to how great a businessman RD was, fantastic, brilliant, up yours G21, etc etc. The praise and gloating went well over the top just as some of the criticism of RD now over DD has.
There was a lack of perspective when JJ and Wiggo signed and the same thing now, on both sides.
Still think RD and/or KM could and should be doing a lot more to explain what their strategy is. I know people think they know but I'm not sure they do. And even if there is a strategy there is no guarantee it is going to plan.
For example if DD was offered a deal three year (as stated above) it was because CAFC wanted to keep him. They haven't it seems (when it's on the OS and all that) so that is clearly a set-back however some will try to spin it. People on here can quickly change their minds and say "well, he wasn't all that" etc etc but Riga or whoever is making the choices wanted him.
It could be a minor setback or none at all if we sign an equally good player or even someone better. Maybe Lennon will step up but that is a big ask.
Or it could be one of a series of setbacks if MM, DP and JR (the people nearly everyone on here who commented thought should be retained) also walk. In combination that becomes a serious blow to the plan, whatever it is.
But as I've been saying almost since he took over I think RD will be good for Charlton in the long run. But I expect a bumpy road for a year or two at least.
Feel that? We just drove over the first speed hump.
How about Riga coming in and saving our season from what appeared to be the abyss? How the training ground developments being pressed on with and the strengthening of community links that was leaked last night?
The only reason our season was in an abyss was because of the way RD treated the previous manager. As I said, done to death already, but I think Powell would have kept us up (despite the ridiculous interference from above). The training ground development, yes that certainly appears to be a positive, but I haven't seen anything on the pitch that gives me encouragement for the future. Riga did a decent job when he came in, but he'll find it just as difficult to succeed with an underfunded squad as his predecessor did.
Let's hope we go crazy in the transfer market and sign a few players who are actually capable of performing at this level, then we can all start looking forward to next season rather than dreading it.

One thing that we certainly won't be doing is going crazy (or even slightly silly) in the transfer market unless you count Standard Liege reserves as 'the market'.

Wow your one depressing bloke . I was confident about the future of this club , read a couple of your posts and I'm suicidal now .

I'm sorry but that is an utterly ridiculous statement.
All depends who we're getting in, it's obvious we're going to lose some big players, Hamer will soon follow and Popey will be our number 1 next season I should imagine. It's all about who we get in is when I can really pass judgement on RD's plan, play his cards wrong and it won't end well. DD needs a solid replacement.
It's no fun at the moment, trying to be one of the rare clubs being the good guys in football not willing to throw desperate amounts of money at players in a bid to get back or start on the premier league money merry go round.
Im dissapointed he seems to be going but what can we do when half the league or more are filled with clubs willing to pay over the odds on wages.
I believe in RD, just hope we have a plan of how to compete against the badly run clubs in football, who will risk it all for a glimmer of hope before it all goes bust.

I agree, but we still need to wait & see.
If we replace them with rubbish, foreign or otherwise, I'll be the first complaining.

Would think Cort will be lucky to be offered a new deal, judging by his age and injury record.
It's pretty clear a contract was offered to Dervite, but he chose Bolton. Higher wages I'd presume.
Harsh to criticise Roland for not competing financially with a club receiving Premiership parachute payments.
Who is the CB equivalent of Polish Pete?
