Dorian Dervite signing for Bolton

  • Defender from near bottom club, moves to near-bottom club at end of contract - SHOCK
  • Shame that's he's left, he was fantastic the second half of the season IMO.

He's gone for the money - Bolton haven't looked close to promotion since they've come down. Sideways move.

I wish someone would explain to me why we are letting this happen. Dervite says he wants to stay, we (the fans) want him to stay, and he's a decent, champ player... Why let him leave for free?

Doh ! He's out of contract.
  • If true.........SHAMBLES!

He's had a good end to the season and established himself with Cort out of the equation with injuries to both him and Wood but was not first choice until Riga arrived. I liked him and I'm sorry to see him go if Crawley is on the money but we move on as the decks are being cleared for the new Manager / Coach to build on. When CP signed 23 players in the summer of 2011 that didn't turn out too bad did it :-) Onwards and upwards COYRs
Powell inherited a basket case and did a superb job of transforming the playing squad on a minimal budget. Duchatelet inherited the core of a good squad that required minimal strengthening - so far he has removed some of our strongest players and replaced then with rubbish.
For L1 Powell had a very good budget, the likes of Wiggins, Morro, Taylor, Stephens. Hollands etc didn't join because they'd always dreamed of playing for Charlton...

It's widely quoted that he had the 5th highest budget in the division, so a decent budget but hardly a blank chequebook. If he was able to get Morrison to sign for us in League 1 then surely Roland isn't so hard up that he can't afford to keep him in the Championship.

Cannot see us getting anyone as good as him on a free transfer. Thought he improved massively this season. A big loss.

Leave off. There will be loads of better centre halves available.

Although, I agree with you, in terms of will they sign for us ?
  • With a goal difference of -20 (MINUS TWENTY) I would have thought any defensive player would be under scrutiny.

FFS, reading the Evina thread you would have thought he was Roberto Carlos....

DD was alright, but not much more than that.

Fair point but I think that's over-simplifying it. The strikers also have a huge bearing on goal difference. There were only ten teams who conceded fewer than our defence - not bad for a team that finished 18th.
  • It was always on the cards once Batman and Robin decided not to offer two thirds of our squad new contracts. Good luck, Dorien but be warned...It's grim up North (or so they say). Hamer next closely followed by Morrison and Poyet, I reckon... #justsaying

  • Thought the reason that Duchatelet and Miere couldn't meet the supporters before the end of the season was because they were too busy preparing for next season. Does getting our best players tied to new contracts before they walk away for nothing not form part of preparations for next season?
  • That's bollox one of out better players that contributed to us staying up and the idiots at our club can't see that he has a future with us for the better , arse holes the lot of them

RD is a shrewd businessman and we will only offer these players what we think they are worth. It will mean that some will leave following the contract run-down debacle that was left by Jimenez, Slater & co.

Dervite, as he is, is a middling Championship centre back. If Bolton are prepared to pay more than us for his services then what can we really do about it? Let's move on, find a decent replacement and start afresh.
  • Dorian is a great footballer with a silky touch and an eye for a pass. He is also a monster in the opposition box and can shoot like an attacking midfielder.

he is woeful when a striker is backing into him and turns quickly.

DD needs 18 months of consistent first team football. He has had a horrible injury record.

I would be interested to know if we offered him anything at all. If he can get a long term deal I can see why his injury problems would make that a priority for him.
  • I reckon that also means no Riga next season. Dervitte made it pretty clear in interviews that he liked & respected Riga and was playing his best football under him. No reason for him the sign for anyone else at this time unless he has heard what the future plans are going to be.

I fear we will lose all the out of contract players & will be in a worse position, squad wise, come pre-season than we were last pre-season.

The same reason as Kermorgant. We've probably offered a deal, Bolton have offered more, we can't match the offer, so he leaves.
We got a fee for Kerm, but you are right.

I understand, but I wish players would be a tad more loyal
  • Forget Gomez stepping up he's still
16 , way to young for centre back . However good he is he'll get bullied in this league
  • Not happy one bit about this and if our style will be to continue to play it out from the back next season then Dervite is someone you want to keep. However as someone said on another thread, the out of contract players were offered new deals. Maybe Bolton were just willing to double our offer (or more).

Shame he wasn't offered a longer deal one year ago. The MS/TJ legacy rolls on.
  • Thought Bolton were a billion dollars in the red and soon to become extinct.

Loyalty is an extremely rare bird in the world of football these almost like a dodo..............oh hang on a minute :-0
  • This is how I see Roland Duchatelet:

You can't sell an out of contract player !

    Yes, we all understand that.

I don't understand why we can't match Bolton.

And how Dervite sees Bolton as a step up...

Sorry but that is a load of rubbish.

Just checking and we'd of finished 11th if the table was decided on least goals conceded. If anything the -20 (MINUS TWENTY) goal difference is a huge testament to how great our defense was this year as if the table was ranked on goals scored, we'd of been 21st and relegated.

The defense was one of the few consistent positives of this season and Dervite was the lynch pin of it, he had the ability on both the physical and technical side in the role of a centre back to do a very good job. He'll be a big loss if this is true.

Don't understand some people's anger at the current owners for this. We cannot keep Dorian at the club against his wishes. Sure, we could beat Bolton's speculatively high contract offer but is a player of Dervite's quality worth that contract offer? Can we find someone of a better quality for lower wages?

We'll have to wait and see.

Someone told me at Sheff W A, that Dervite had already agreed a move elsewhere.

I didn't repeat it, as I had no idea if it was true & it wasn't a good time to be spreading rumours.

that almost certainly wasn't true then, as, unless it's a foreign club a club can't start talking to out of contract players until the end of the season with their club's permission or 1 month from their contract expiry date. Not to say you didn't hear that, but it was almost certainly not true at the time.

    Why do you think that?

Because evidence so far suggests otherwise doesn't it? Where were the adequate replacements for Yann or Stephens?
