Aims for the rest of the season as a football club: 1) stay in this league. 2) Get Hamer, Morro, Dervite and Poyet on contracts. 3) Make sure Thuram never returns to the Valley... Unless he's playing against us.
Brilliant birthday present for me and, coincidentally, lad sitting next to me. Lovely goal. Ben H topped confident game with great save. V dramatic. Leeds fans good humoured. Stewards and cops friendly. Rewarding experience.
Superb win thanks to a brilliant goal by Reza and Hamer's crucial penalty save. We aren't of course safe yet but this gives us some crucial breathing space with still 6 home games to come. It also brings Birmingham very much into the relegation picture. 4 wins from here should be enough so long as we don't lose to Yeovil & Barnsley. You also have to give Riga a lot of credit for picking up a crucial 11 points over the last 7 games with 5 clean sheets
I couldn't make the game. I couldn't even listen to it on Player. So, I started following the match thread from the beginning when there were only 5 minutes left 'real time'. I did notice the "Reza's goal" thread as I got onto the site so I had an idea that Reza may have scored but I also thought it may have been a wind up.
So I was following the match thread with a mixture of excitement and optimism. We seemed to be playing well. Leeds weren't doing much. I also knew that even if Reza had scored that didn't mean Leeds hadn't got one or two back. But we were playing so well. And then Reza scored. FANTASTIC. What a goal and the match thread was going crazy. Get in there. I was so excited by now. I know my missus had checked the result as the game had finished by now and she 'seemed' to be ok but was I reading her correctly? I didn't know. I can usually pick up on her emotions...And then the penalty.... Bollocks. 3 minutes to go. I looked over at her but she still seemed so contented. Not at all concerned. Could I hope for a miracle? Could I?
And then.... the save. Ben Hamer, you beauty. YOU BEAUTY.
What a game and what an emotion. I love you Reds!! Yesssssssssssss.
And thank you to all on the match thread who made the experience so special.
What a result. :-))
For some reason I always rely on the bbc website that is about 4 years behind the action. It basically told me we had beat Birmingham last season at home when we had actually drew, conceding a last minute equaliser. Tonight it got stuck on about the 32 minute mark for what seemed like quarter of an hour, and then to cap it all off we conceded that penalty at about 10.01pm. I should definitely look to the match thread in future as the only people you can truly rely on, are Charlton people.
Delighted for all that went up there. I would've have been going mental when Hamer saved that penalty had I been there. Obviously, I don't know how we played, can only go on the stats from BBC website, but it looked like we had a go in terms of shots, corners etc.
I've seen the goal. Great strike by Reza. People have been quick to identify him as a potential flop, yet he's been playing on the right as a left footer and not as a central striker. He's adapting, but his goal tonight is the sort of strike that Church can only dream about. Hopefully this will give him the confidence to carry on.
Hamer's save was superb. We've got to get him signed up. To think Thuram's has had the audacity to complain with the form Hamer's in.
This was a massive result. If it had have finished 1-1 with a late pen that would've felt like a defeat. I am impressed with the way the team has responded after the Burnley and Derby defeats, that takes real character.
If we don't get beat on sat and follow that up with the 1-0 Tuesday night roadshow next week, we're really in with a shout. I'm sure he doesn't, but I hope Riga's not thinking of letting Church back in against his old club on Saturday.....
I'm off to check the match report now on the BBC website, I should be able to read it around 1am as they've probably only got to just past the hour mark on the match thread.
Excellent result and sounded deserved. Great goal from Reza and Hamer's penalty save was superb! Beat Barnsley and Yeovil and we're almost there (as if it will be that simple! )
So Leeds’ abject failure against Charlton has done a power of no-good to two clubs whose fans’ attitude towards United leaves them deserving no favours from our part of West Yorkshire. I have to admit, that leaves me with a slightly malicious smile on my face. The fact that the normally-reliable Ross McCormack missed a late, late penalty to ensure the full three-point hammer-blow to the Tykes and the Bermondsey Scum, just added a slightly piquant touch. ’Ave it, I thought.
Secondly – let’s not have this latest defeat go to waste. Let Charlton Athletic use their three easy-gained points at our expense as a springboard to survival, and let’s see Barnsley and that odious, horrible club Millwall consigned to the lower leagues where they belong.

Only if we stay up will I then appreciate this win!!!!!
It's not an April Fool, is it?
You beautiful Addicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hohoho. Light relief on the Leeds forums.
Gets better
As with Forest caught Leeds at a good time but them's the breaks. We still had to win it.
Was surprised Reza started again but he did the business so well done him. And Hamer never looks like getting close to saving a pen. Except he did.
Not over yet but a nice gap over Millwall and Yeovil and breathing down the necks of Birmingham and Blackpool.
Next two home games should be very very interesting.
Whatever the weaknesses in this squad, and there are a few despite the result tonight, lack of fight is not one of them.
