First of all, very happy for the travelling fans, you all deserved that. Reza and Hamer stepped up to the mark and showed their quality, and Jose Riga looks more like a quality manager every time. I was on the train after Burnley, and the general mood was that three points would be a good return from our three tough away games, and we'd probably be lucky to get one. A week and a half later, and six invaluable points in the bag. Yes, we caught Leeds and Forest at the right time, but you still have to win the matches, and we did.
The Reds are staying up the Reds are staying up, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna belieeeeeeeve UUUSS! THE REDS ARE STAYING UP!
Riga has obviously worked it out pretty quickly that we just don't have 2-3 goals per match in our locker, so he has built it from the back and concentrated on keeping it tight and nicking goals on the break and from set-plays.
Given we have still only scored 27 goals from 37 matches it is quite possible we could end up staying up scoring something like 35 goals from 46 games - way less than a goal per game and an extraordinary testament to the defence.
'why dont leeds wear adidas or le coq sportif, brands that come with success while we're stuck with macron. There needs to be a big clear out in the summer starting with the kit'
I do wish Reza, Hamer and the rest of the squad would read the scrip written for us by the football media(and a section of our fanbase) we are meant to be a soulless joke of a club imploding on our way to league 1. ;-)
Very tense watching SSN. Felt so deflated when news of the Leeds penalty came in, then so elated when Ben saved it. If we can continue the form of the last six games we will be safe and sound with 50+ pts. Meanwhile, Yeovil and the unwashed look f*cked!
To adopt the vernacular of Gary Johnson, our three friends at the bottom will have had a little heart attack when they heard that result - not to mention Brum and Blackpool.
Six of the last nine at home, so we are most certainly in the box seat, although there is a long way to go
I couldn't make the game. I couldn't even listen to it on Player. So, I started following the match thread from the beginning when there were only 5 minutes left 'real time'. I did notice the "Reza's goal" thread as I got onto the site so I had an idea that Reza may have scored but I also thought it may have been a wind up.
So I was following the match thread with a mixture of excitement and optimism. We seemed to be playing well. Leeds weren't doing much. I also knew that even if Reza had scored that didn't mean Leeds hadn't got one or two back. But we were playing so well. And then Reza scored. FANTASTIC. What a goal and the match thread was going crazy. Get in there. I was so excited by now. I know my missus had checked the result as the game had finished by now and she 'seemed' to be ok but was I reading her correctly? I didn't know. I can usually pick up on her emotions...And then the penalty.... Bollocks. 3 minutes to go. I looked over at her but she still seemed so contented. Not at all concerned. Could I hope for a miracle? Could I?
And then.... the save. Ben Hamer, you beauty. YOU BEAUTY.
What a game and what an emotion. I love you Reds!! Yesssssssssssss.
And thank you to all on the match thread who made the experience so special.
Humongously important win. Still can't quite seem to shake Barnsley off but we remain in control of our own destiny and are now right up Brum's arse too. Riga is winning me over. Our goals for tally is an embarrassment but he's not shy to take decisions. Church is right out in the cold and hopefully that goal will kick start Reza. Top evening all round. 3 points and we get rid of Coco the clown.
Since Riga took over our record is W3 D2 L2 which is very respectable, 11 points from 3 goals scored is pretty bizarre though! It's as if he's found a way of rationing our goals out for when they are most useful. "Don't get that consolation goal against Derby to make it 3-1, keep it back for Tuesday"
