I think Poyet was better in a Charlton shirt than Shelvey in the 20 games i saw him. Still doesnt detract from the fact i think he's a little dick now.
This isn't a sour grapes dig at him cos he's gone, but I wonder if he'd have won POTY if people wern't voting to try to somehow convince him he was "loved" at the club, rather than how much he contributed over the season?
He didn't get my vote on the basis of I don't think he played enough games..............
He's blatantly a little bit blinding and he will go on to prove so in the prem.... it's not good, it sucks as we taught him all he flippin knows.... but it the truth....

I've not seen enough of Poyet to say who was best, one thing is though, Poyet was nearly 19 when he debuted for Charlton, Jonjo was at Liverpool when he was only just 18, Jonjo played his best football for Charlton aged 16 to early 17, never played much under Parkinson towards his late 17's. The few games I have seen Poyet he's been great.
fact of the matter is he was raised in a millionaire footballer's family, many have come from footballing families, but we're only just starting to see those who's dad was a millionaire when they were a kid. Diego sees it as a job and a way to make money rather than from a fan's perspective that some one from more humble background like jonjo would have grown up with. He sees a way of stepping up a level from what he's already doing to get to "the top". I wouldn't be surprised that the moment he starts playing regularly and with rave reviews he'll be demanding a move to a bigger club.
the guy's a spoilt brat, or simply has a completely different perspective of football than the rest of us.

Hard as it is to believe after narrowly avoiding relegation last season Diego had better players around him than Jonjo did too which helps.
Looking back at an earlier comment in this thread mentioning the 4. I would say for CAFC the best in order would be Parker, Bowyer, Diego and then Shelvey.
In terms of respect i would say Shelvey, Parker, Bowyer and then Diego.
All 4 are class though and i am glad i got to see them all play for us.
Poyet did well in the Championship, but the Premiership is an entirely different matter.
He'll be up against Carzola,Lallana, Touré, Mata, Wilshere et al.
Talk about a baptism of fire; he'll be found out...
The same way the majority of Premier League midfielders are found out when they come up against Toure, Mata etc then?
As I suggested before in this thread, you don't have to be a top 6 player to play in the Premier League. Diego Poyet can compete with the midfielders in the starting line-ups of Crystal Palace, Hull, Stoke, Swansea, Burnley, QPR etc. He isn't going to be too far out of his depth against those sides, but he will still be a "Premiership" player.
Half watched the West Ham game, they offered little creatively and DP never seemed to be mentioned (perhaps indicating a certain lack of involvement).
They can continue the experiment of having players like DP or go back to playing it more directly.
On the basis of this game, it wont be long before they go back tried and trusted methods and that would appear to leave DP superfluous to requirements.

All fair points, and of course he'll be a 'Premiership' player as that's the league he'll be playing in.
However,to say he won't be too far out of his depth against the sides you mention is slightly premature - yes,I know by saying he'll be found out is equally so,but even those teams, save those just promoted, are better than anything he's faced before, and initially,I should have been more specific,I think he'll struggle, but of course I don't know.
He's a gifted player, but the hyperbole that flew around when he was with us - 'too good for Charlton','Premiership quality' and most ridiculous of all,'world class' - was just that:hyperbole.
I'm by no means willing him to fail;I wish him well in his career as I do all ex-Charlton players regardless of his supposed slight of us.

I agreewith you but I still maintain, as I have since JonJo left us, that by the time he is 30 his career stats will show more in terms of personal achievement than the other three.

Really cannot see any point in this whatsoever. Some of our idiot fans on twitter are embaressing, how is this going to make Diego feel?
The West Ham lads will probably have some banter about it and that will be it. All it is going to do is help Diego realise what a bunch of morons some of charltons fans are...

But I will always stick by my honest opinion that
Jordan Cousins is better.

Pretty sure Liverpool regret selling Thomas Ince and replacing him with Stewart Downing #RookyMistake
