Was on the 8.56 and found out as we pulled away that there was a pitch inspection. During the journey I spoke with pal who is now the Sheff U Managing Director and he said it had been awful weather up there all week. The Blades, being the biggest club in the Steel City, have their pitch covered. Sadly for all of us, the little wendies didn't!
Don't get why Michael Vaughan couldn't just talk a lot of hot air all over it. Would have been fine in no time!!
Good beers in The Globe with Guinness, Curb-it and a good few other CL'ers and fans. Well done to East Coast trains...really good of them to allow us back on any train. Roll on the rearranged game...
Very funny, actually our game with Wigan went ahead mid-week but as it's been raining non stop then sometimes covers might not have helped either, funny how the pigs game was called off on Wednesday (the day after our game), did your managing director mate tell you that it was Forest who actually insisted on the covers as the Pigs didn't want to pay for them so Forest went halves.
Oh and whilst you're digging, Charlton V Barnsley P.1 at 2pm was it?
Seemed only fair to have a little dig given some of the crass comments from wednesdayites after our own issues. Bet you wish the Wigan game had been called off too!!
Good of Forest to stump up, but then they are bankrolled by a lot of middle eastern money & it's in their interests to avoid a fixture pile up. I'm sure if we'd known you were in such dire straits we'd have scraped a few shillings together for you. Sadly, we're always being told how fantastic you are, so assumed you'd be ok for a cover or three!!
Like the way some of our fans dig our own club when we had the barnsley game called off, saying 'we are embarrassing'. 'Hope the fa throw the book at us'. 'Dock us points'.
Yet the minute it happens to us at other clubs is 'Pot calling kettle black'. 'We can't say anything with our problems'. 'We cant give anyone grief for games getting called off'
I probably had a pop at our own club for that barnsley game but you are allowed to still get angry and have a pop when it is another club.
Just finished drinking with a few of Sheffield united's top boys... Nice guys. They said they'd meet us in the lion in the next round... If they get a home game.

Well I must say welll done to East Midlands trains for getting us there when south eastern decided that they could not put on any trains till 1100am A little disapointed that Wednesday could not have called it off on Friday cause that would have save alot of aggro. I set off at 0645!!!!! I will not be able toi go to the replay as can not take anymore annual leave. I think we would have had 2000 up there today @£15 each approx which is £30000. Think we will have 500 for the rearrenged game which is £7500 Would a cover of cost £22500??????
I really feel for people who had a wasted journey, its a real shame.
But a bit of perspective is needed, this is the wettest winter for about 100 years or something crazy and the wild weather is causing lots of damage to property and even tragic deaths.
Therefore, its not surprising that football matches will be postponed and there is not very much that can be done about it.
As for Clattenburg, if he had called the game off on Friday night and Saturday morning arrived with bright blue skies then people would have a go at him for calling it off too soon.
I mean it's not like we don't know that what happened up at Wednesday isn't a possibility
It can happen at any fixture, forever ....... Clubs would like to give the games the best possibility of going ahead, so unfortunately that means inspections being later Otherwise we'll call off loads of games unnecessarily well in advance so as to get rid of the possibilty to ever inconvenience fans
Could The Wednesday have done more , of course they could have but we had a cover for the Barnsley fixture and it was bright sunshine all Saturday morning yet it was called off at 1.30 and as piggy says they are affected by a local river in regards where they are situated on the water table (don't think they have fucked up drainage like us)
Two wrongs don't make a right but I think our fans got a better deal with this postponement than the Barnsley supporters
Still where would we be with out a weekend to bleat and cry about something
When we got flooded in 2007 it absolutely destroyed both the drainage and the under soil heating, a reported 4m will be needed to rectify this, I'm not sure many clubs could afford that outlay when most of the time it isn't needed.
I was gutted it was called off, a trip up from Hertfordshire on a Tuesday is not appealing in the slightest.
I feel sorry for all if you who travelled yesterday.
Edit : the Blades game will be on, it's dry and bright now.
Sitting in the Leicester services properly pissed off. Are United due to play this weekend? Be a bit embarrassing for the massives if they can get their game on.
Think they play tomorrow and have the pitch covered.
I'd expect the wendies on here to go very quiet then. Can't for the life of me work out why you wouldn't have put a cover on with that forecast
Think in our current position we do not have much room to complain, pots and kettles etc
Really sorry for those that travelled, on the bright side, we are in the hat for quarters, rearranged should be on tele
Can see it coming that the 1/4 finals will pair us with the United/Forest winners, we get our hopes up and Wednesday knock us out. Nailed on there methinks
Clattenburg should have got there at 8,30 and made a decision as for as i'm concerned, not only have folk from London has a wasted journey but Wednesday fans from all over the country come to Hillsborough on matchdays too.
The only think I can think is that Clattenburg gave it till the point of no return and made a decision there and then.
I have nothing against Clattenburg, don't know why people give him stick. However, your right there is no reason why he could not have got to the ground earlier and done the inspection. Suppose he wanted a lie in!

Like our excuses for the broken drainage under the pitch, I just don't accept that as an excuse. And like us, you've had several years to resolve the situation and haven't.
You are a professional football club and without a pitch to play on, the whole raison d'etre for your club disappears.
I expect that on average, the loan players you've had in this year are costing 500k a year each, plus the loan fees - and you've actually bought in 21 new players into the club this season. Several of these players (most of the time) haven't been needed.
Hopped off at Chesterfield, like many others, to try and salvage something from the postponement. Had an excellent pub lunch in a very old pub, the Royal Oak and enjoyed the game against Torquay after a tepid first half. A new ground for us, a very friendly bunch of people and, I might add, an excellent pitch (recognising that the ground is only four years old). Hopefully, we shall not be retracing our steps next season because I think Chesterfield are on the way up.
Must have sorted their pitch out from two years ago. Remember zero communication on their website all week even the weather was freezing. Game got called off around 10.30 as well. Just as well Sheff United v Wycombe was on!
Our train was at 10:26, we got the news it was called off before we reached the first stop, Leicester. Nonetheless, met a couple of Massives, few blades, and some derby fans, and we had a nice drink until our 1830 train back. Gutting as it was, it's not like we can complain! On the bright side, three games in hand over everyone gives me hope. I know we have to win them, but at least we are in charge of our own fate.

Several years without a pot to piss in post 2007 and I don't think Milan will chuck 4m at it, not as he's looking to sell.
We've had 5 games called off since 2007 and two abandonments, so around 1 a year, would you justify spending it?
As for bringing players in, we've relied on freebies and loanees to remain being quite frugal.

Playing your youth team in is frugal.
Bringing in players like Connor Wickham, who cost you £50k a week in loan fees and salary whilst he was with you isn't.

Not read through the whole thread, but it appears to me that the Wendies did not make a huge amount of effort for this game to go ahead. Maybe that had something to do with the number of injuries and integrating the new loanees into the squad ?
If Rotheram in League One can go ahead then the Wendies game should be going ahead.
Charlton knew the rain situation against Birmingham and even with completely fecked drainage the covers went on, Paddy the groundsman got the pitch ready. The Massives have got a big injury list, and is as we know is a massive club and Hillsborough a top notch state of the art ground. Where's the covers ? Was the rain going to be that heavy during the game ?
I don't know if OP and Owls Admin have acknowledged it earlier but it does look like the Massives were trying to avoid the fixture.

He cost us less than 10k a week.
