When does the loan window close? Its possible we are waiting for this weekend to pass because we could be looking at players that are cup tied and there is no point paying them an extra week's wages if they can't play... Just trying to be devils advocate, though the more liklihood is dick all is happening.

This Loan Window closes March 28th - so around six weeks to get reinforcements...

Well if we wait till the end of the window it won't be worth bringing anyone in

So true! A maximum 93 day loan will take us through to the last game now - so the sooner the better. My guess would be that things are happening 'behind the scenes' but its probably proving hard to get the people CP/RD wants/can afford and also to convince the right people to come to a struggling Charlton side - at the bottom end of the league in a bit of a state of disarray...

  • maybe the people they want to bring in are cup tied so no point in wasting a week of the loan if they cant play sat?
  • SWP wouldn't be here for the money, he could sit on his backside at QPR earning exactly the same amount. If he turns up, he'll be here because he wants to play. I doubt he'll sign but I imagine he's better than our current options.
  • Forgot about Cameron Stewart, Personally i think Powell finds it hard to attract the right players we need at the club, whether it be the location, the manager, money, or our style of play, and as for Sordell and the rest of them its about time they started to show some pride and passion, put all the off-field shit to one side and solely focus on thier responsibilities on the pitch. Rant over.

I think Leeds can break his 93 days ,so given they are not playing us on Saturday McDermott has sent him back to Hull so that he would be eligible until the end of the season.

Remember he signed a three year contract with them starting next season.

  • Expecting a loan or two to be confirmed today?

@CAFCofficial: Morning all. It's going to be a very busy #pressday here at Sparrows Lane, we'll keep you all informed. #cafc
  • I SAID YER BUY WUN, YER GET WUN FREEEEEE!

    Wrong windows?
  • @CAFCofficial: CP: I don't have anyone imminent coming in. Everyone in the Championship are fighting for the same players, but I'll keep trying #cafc

    Great

    Great

It's funny how Wednesday picked up a prem loanee within 24 hours of Semedo's injury. If we are serious about staying in this division, we get 2 or 3 decent loans in now.

So its back to square pegs in round holes!

It's a money thing and potential new players probably don't want to play on our crappy pitch. We might just have to put Andy Hughes in centre-midfield and get our own players scrapping for each other.

I don't take much notice of what SCP says in press conferences. I remember him saying much the same thing once before and Tony Flood informing him that Darel Russell's arrival had been officially announced and of course the time when he teased a reporter about Ricardo Fuller.

Maybe we wanted the same player and he chose Sheff Wed?
  • I just don't buy this "there's no-one out there" BS. Loads of teams have already made some great loan signings. I don't believe it's about money any more, so WTF is going on?
  • They're choosing other clubs over us?
  • Do you blame them?

wednesday getting gary gardener and ben afobe
  • Lol and charlton fans would of been happy would they ? I don't think so Gardner has got barely any games to he's name , and we already have poyet cousins Jackson and astrit . I'm positive people on here wouldn't of called that a great signing . And again the striker they have got is very much untested people would of still moaned.
Like some one else said they wouldn't be able to play this week anyway so maybe saving on wages and next week is more important. But looking around there hasn't been many loans gone through where I thought what a great signing he would help us a lot .

Not exactly setting the world on fire with those signings really... Gardner is highly rated but are they both experienced in a relegation scrap?

Is there much difference as well between Poyet who has just come through for us and Gardner anyway?

Powell's doing the right thing compared to a lot of people on here... We dont have many loan spots left and he's gonna ensure the right person becomes available who can strengthen our squad

Would have thought most people would prefer that to panicking and bringing in some player who wont improve the team especially with the loans we got in when we were last relegated from the Championship (i.e. you could compare SWP to Keith Gillespie and Ben Afobe (had we signed him) to Martyn Waghorn
  • Afobe last season - 10 league starts for Bolton and Millwall, 15 sub apps, 2 goals.

Gardener - 9 starts 11 sub apps in his career (since 2011/12 season).

I think they're great signings in a similar way to Green, Hamer etc being great players when they aren't in the team.

They might do well but so might Ajdarevic and our new strikers.

Then there was the time he teased Ricardo Fuller about a one year extension :)
  • Asked Powell today about loan window activity:

    http://valleytalkblog.com/2014/02/13/transfer-news-powell-wants-wingers-strikers-on-loan/

Don't think he's EVER said anyone is imminent, but at least he's on the same page as most of us. I mentioned Jonny Williams but he pretty much ignored it lol
  • Gary Gardner is a very good player IMO. Hopefully we'll get someone
  • Bet the state of our pitch doesn't help either...
  • Just read the SLP and the only update from Cawley is a potential exit.Apparently Brighton and Derby want to take Simon Church.

Could this open up a possibility for a loan swap for Craig Mackal-Smith I wonder?
