  • Well said, Lancs...nice to get perspective from those actually there!
  • Cousins is wasted on the right.

The 'chance to gel' time allowance hold very little water with me this time around.
Gel? Poyet, who was playing in the under 14s two weeks ago needs time to learn the game and mature.Same with the other youngsters, who now it seems are very much in the limelight due to an inept and unsatisfactory transfer period.
This side has been unbalanced for many a month and by my reckoning it is now seriously close to toppling over.
The chance to right it has now passed and Chris Powell has been let down very badly AGAIN.As we all have.

But why do you say Chris Powell has been let down again. What about us fans being let down by Chris Powell? Isn't that relevant? I believe he did let us down today. We were 1-0 up. The first half we seemed to be pretty much in control. Then, a substitution or two seemed to disrupt the team and two quick goals later we lost. That has been a large part of the pattern of this season - promising so much but just not delivering when the rubber meets the road.

I believe RD is watching this situation very closely and is already weighing up what the options are for a replacement. He may give Chris a couple more games but if things don't change very quickly he'll be out.
if you think we controlled the first half then I'm afraid I had to stop reading right there.
  • They say that it's all about opinions and everybody has one but "unconventional but effective" !!!!!!!!!!!!! Lordy that's some opinion. Agree about Diego though was very impressed with him as were Wigan I met after.
  • wellllll
    on way back from game

    ouch

    deffo some positives:

    * Reza looked capable up top and showed some nice touches and positivity
*Poyet looks quality, despite a few midplaced passes at inopportune moments
    *AA was very commited
    * Lennon did well out of position, Morro and Wood were well organised and the new right back made some good tackles..... basically the defence dealt well with a lot of pressure for a looooong period

    1st Half
    *Lucky goal. Sordell finished well.
*Wigan were clearly better but we contained it well enough and looked dangerous on occasion.
    * Sordell crap. lacked phydicality and just wrong.

    2nd Half
*kept pumping long balls up to strikers
    * when we played with 1 striker we kept pumping long balls
*when we played with no strikers we still pumped long balls
*sordell actually put some good pressure on
*wigan all over us.... butttt... we kept them out for so long

was buzzing as we got closer to the end....

away end kept support going well.... lots of screams to leave someone up when we kept clearing to nobody

    but

    ouchhhh.... the inevitable happened

    stings badly

6 hours coach ride home to mull it over

want powell to stay but bad tactics today

@stonemuse sitting next to your son but we haven't managed to bring ourselves to talk about the game yet.our son but we haven't managed to bring ourselves to talk about the game yet.

Gutted you didn't see an away win today Siv. All the way from China and all that. :-)
  • Doesn't matter if it was an anomaly! We drew with them at home. One nil up you shouldn't be losing in the last 5!
  • We now must beat Brum next Saturday or CP will surely go. Management team is weak. What does Alex Dyer do btw? Did he actually have any
meaningful coaching experience prior to be drafted in by CP.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Dyer_(footballer_born_1965)

"in April 2004 he joined West Ham United as assistant to sports scientist Tony Strudwick.[2] His role at the club changed to conditioning coach in July 2007.[3] and following Kevin Keen's promotion to first team coach, reserve team coach in September 2008.[4][5]

In January 2011 he left the Hammers to link up with Chris Powell as assistant manager at Charlton Athletic.[6]"

  • I dunno about you, but I think we should be unhappy that we lost a game we were winning with 5 minutes to go. Maybe just me though.

This. I bet Stoke didn't think they would beat Man U today - but they did. Do you think their players were saying to Rooney, Mata etc " don't worry, we'll let you win - you're better than us " No, they went in front, TWICE, and thought "this is a valuable 3 points - best we hold on"

I didn't think we would win today, but once we went in front I hoped upon hope that we would hang on - with Millwall losing at home we were out of the bottom 3 and not far off catching Bolton, B'ham & S.Wed. All we had to do was score a second goal, or at least keep hold of the ball down their end. I don't usually like players holding the ball by the corner flag, but at least they are 90 yards away from our goal.

    CP just doesn't learn.
  • So what exactly did Thuram do that was bad? Was it simply that he didn't catch anything? Foreign keepers are taught from an early age to punch.
  • I'm actually agreeing with Golfie today.

I thought the players showed a good attitude and workrate. With the exception of the keeper, the new faces all did OK. Poyet looked good, given all the circumstances.

We were lucky to get to the last five minutes without conceding, though, and had no outlet to ease the pressure at the end. It was no surprise at all they scored twice and neither was it undeserved.
  • No outlet? There's a bloody Suprise. Always leave one up! Where are his tactics from? A cereal box?

Just back, comedy goalkeeper. Thought was going to be a northern 0-1 smash and grab that have enjoyed so much under CP but Thuram is a clown and if that's what CP has to deal with then wouldn't blame him for launching into RD right now. Hamer or Alnwick could have seen that out and given defence a chance. Only so many fires defenders can fight before you get burned.

Not sure why the new regime think it's a good idea to force a goalie on a team in a relegation scrap when the current ones that have been chosen by the manager are doing a good job. GK was not the position we needed changing in this window. Not in a million years. Totally illogical.
Then CP nees to grow some & not pick him. If RD then sacks him then so be it. Stand up for your principles instead of sitting on your backside & not doing anything about it !!!
  • So is Thuram shite or not?

Seems to be a few saying he is a clown an a few saying he is unconventional but effective.

Unfair to write him off after two games and hopefully he will improve if he is as bad as people are saying.

Do we know why Piotr wasn't involved?
  • Wednesday ten games unbeaten now.
  • Thuram? taught to punch not slap the ball around the six yard box. Nearly threw one in towards the end fortunately went the right side of the post. Stationary on too many occasions as ball hit bar, zipped across face of goal etc. Or perhaps he is an outstanding judge of the flight of the ball............................ No that's not it.
  • When is Hamer back?

@coveredendjunior Never looked at all comfortable and was rooted to the spot several times but fortunately not much was on target. He just does not seem to want to come for anything like a Subuteo keeper on a short stick. Not much chance with first but the winner from free kick I just knew was going in before it was struck, seemed to go through him. With Hamer injured Phillips was on the bench so it was Hobson's choice :-(
  • wouldn't see your brother poncing about like that AB!
  • Does Poyet look ready for the first team?

  • One of the best keepers of the last 20 years, if not the best, is Buffon. He attempts to catch everything and usually does. Unspectacular but it keeps possession! I think it's a bit general to say "foreign keepers are taught to punch everything."
  • Does Poyet look ready for the first team?

definitely unless we can bring in a top notch midfielder
  • How about the players take some responsibility for a change. Always the bloody manager's fault!
  • Wednesday ten games unbeaten now.

Are you Operation Pig in disguise?
  • When is Hamer back?

    ask Roly

Err. Thats exactly what he did remember? But then Alnwick was sold. With Hamer out injured there isn't much choice.

    A result most were expecting.

Feels a lot worse the way it happened.

    This.
This is my feeling. No team should concede two goals in the last 2 minutes. Powells fault? Players fault? RD's faoult? Or just the way it goes.?

This is the squad we have and we need toget them performing next weekend, no one new is coming on until at least Monday week, so the midfield problem has no chance of being solved before then.

    Gutted
