Can't believe we never got something from this game. Team spirit was good and the youngsters Poyet,Lennon and Cousins did very well. Now for the foreign Legion, Thuram dire never came for a single cross. I've played with better keepers on a Sunday morning. Reza showed early promise tired and did little 2nd half. Astrit average again tired, Nego iffy not match fit , away support fantastic . We move on to Brum.
Take it you were there, RC? Thx for a decent report - hope it will be read by some of the doom merchants in here.
Have not called for CP to go, but starting to think that although some new one is unlikely to do any better, could they do any worse ! so is it a gamble worth taking .
They might not do worse but they might just be an unlikeable wanker. I.e Warnock or Avram Grant who's been mentioned above. I'd rather do badly with someone I support and respect in charge. If Powell were to go they would have to do a very good job with his replacement.
You would rather do badly but with a manager who is a nice bloke. That's madness!!
Can't believe how many people think CP will walk on the back of this result. We expected to lose, had a change in defence in the first few mins, we had a load of new faces and nearly won it.
I dare say the player ratings will be shit even though they'd be a ton higher had we won - which we very nearly did.
Give the new look team a chance to gel and see where it goes.
If Powell went I'd want Mackay. I want Powell to stay and sort this out though.
Now that's an interesting call... forgot about MM good tactician
And why did MM leave Cardiff? Oh an interfering owner. But sure, he'd get on just fine with Roly Poly...
Are we assuming RD is interfering then?
These signings are hardly Powell's targets are they.
I don't believe they are no, but some on here do.
Do they really? A load of players from our new owners other clubs happened to be exactly the players Powell wanted to strengthen our relegation battle?
Anyways. A battling performance which was undone at the very end. It's a shame but it's not this match that will relegate us, and in the circumstances it sounded promising. I hope Powell is given the chance to strengthen the team by bringing in someone on loan that he wants, but not sure what the likelihood of that is.
subs / powell gets it so wrong again. dervite sub wrong move . f..cked up far to many times now . love the man by but not going to save us bye bye time for a change. steve clarke
Ah screw this forum for tonight, all these people coming out of the woodwork and having a dig to vent frustration. Grow some balls, We're in a relegation battle with a small and limited squad and we don't need any bottlers. If you can't stick with the team in this transitional and tough time fore every one then shame on you. Some of the posters on here jump on the bandwagon more than a Millwall cup run!
We could quite easily have got away with it today and the last five minutes could have continued just as it was going for the previous 85 or so, this thread would have said things like "what a masterstroke by RD" and "Powell has really got this side to come together quickly". It didn't and it's a shame. Those five minutes could have gone either way but shit happens, especially when you're at the bottom. But we go again next week, and we will continue to do so whatever.
We are where we are for a reason, but I don't believe that that reason is Chris Powell. This club has just undergone a takeover after some "questionable" ownership before hand and these are the very first stages in that redevelopment. Also think that Standard Liege were not happy with the opening stages of their takeover, look where they are now.
You can't blame Powell for the midfield options we have, available CM options off the bench were Hughes (conceded two when he came on V Yeovil) and Pritchard (out of sorts). His hands are tied and I worry if you can't see that.
Just getting myself wound up now, I'll leave it at that for tonight.
Get behind the boys and try and stick with them as they try and salvage this season so we can have a good go at the league next season!
Chris always has a very cautious approach and this comes over as negativity. Even when we were in L1 we would sit back and absorb pressure but because the opposition was of a lesser quality they just didn't have the guile to break us down. That's why I believe we won so many away games. At this level it just doesn't work. Law of averages says that.
I also think that's why we just don't create many chances or score many goals.
Have not called for CP to go, but starting to think that although some new one is unlikely to do any better, could they do any worse ! so is it a gamble worth taking .
You know what I have been completely unsure where I lie with CP. But this suns it up. If he stays we are going down.....we have been hopeless all year and the same frailties and mistakes are coming up time and time again. A new manager may not work, but it is a gamble worth taking. So many teams change manager and the players seem to get a boost. Look at Sheff Weds, Palace etc. The way I look at it we are 100pc down with CP and even if we are 75pc down with someone else it is still better odds. Facts met be that most managerial changes bring at least a short term uplift. We waited too long to replace Reed in the prem. Pards would have saved us otherwise. Same thing is happening here.
No way are we 100% down with Powell, we're only a game-in-hand victory over Barnsley away from getting out of the bottom three. He got us out of ruts last season and earlier this season. I hope he at least gets until the Brum game as I strongly fancy us to win that.
We are going down with a wimper. We should be at least trying to attack. Will Powell ever learn to not bring on defenders for midfielders to see out games!
Powell is costing us points but it is all good he is a top bloke.

Very disappointing but, despite the timing of the goals, there was a sense of inevitability.
There were some positives; Gooch looked okay although was absolutely starved of service in the second half and Lennon looked good when he came on. Adrejivic (sic) looked assured and the right back grew into the game also. Poyet also did well but is more defensive minded and we really need some attacking from our midfield so don't see him and Cousins playing in the centre together in the future as they're too similar. The atmosphere was great-harmonising Chrissy Powell's red and white army along with the Gooch is on fire a particular highlight!
The negatives: Thuram was awful. He stood on his line throughout, punched every time (downwards) and just looked a disaster waiting to happen. From where we were sitting, it looked like he could have done better with both goals but will reserve judgement until seeing them on TV. Jackson chased a lot of shadows again. Cousins is not a winger! Powell again has a lot to answer for; even if you're playing defensive, you need an out ball-taking off Sordell and bringing on Pritch meant us sitting ridiculously deep with no forward options-the second half was embarrassing and 2-1 really flatters us.
Going to soften the blow tonight in Liverpool.....
Year of the Whores pimping themselves to get Chrissy out. Sorry, but this time I feel very cross. I expected to lose, and by a significantly greater margin. WTF do people expect following this weeks nightmares? Well done lads, you did better than I had hoped for
A devastating result, particularly in circumstances where we were - against all expectations - in a great position to win the game or at least take something from it.
It's always easier looking through the clear rear window of hindsight, but leaving Reza on his own up front meant he was isolated and the bloke must have been knackered after not playing a first team game for over two months. I'm no fan of Churchy but he could perhaps have come on and given us an outlet down the channels in order to relieve the incessant pressure and inhibit their full backs from pushing so far up. Powelly does like to bring an extra centre-half on to try and see games out - he used to do it early in our League 1 Championship season with the infamous Doc, until he woke up to the fact that it was unnecessary and counter-productive. This kind of substitution can, of course, work but our manager seems to deploy it as a matter of course, rather than selectively.
On the plus side, it sounded from the Wigan commentary that we defended very well - apart from our "shaky goalkeeper", as they put it (cheers, Roland) - and that Reza and Nego enjoyed very good debuts. All is not lost (11 of the last 19 games are at home) but we have now lost three on the bounce, are firmly rooted in the bottom three and are fast approaching the point of no return.
As ever, look forward to hearing from those who made the long and arduous trip up there.
I don't think today's defeat had anything to do with new players not knowing each other or missing players that have been sold, but down to tactics. Reading the match thread & watching Sky it seems that once we scored we just sat back & defended - we had the odd breakaway where Reza hit the bar, but didn't really trouble their goalkeeper, esp after half time.
We do this time after time. I'm no good remembering previous games but I know its not the first time this season we have thrown away points from a winning position. I know I am in the very small minority that thinks that you should carry on attacking, but seeing as the opposite doesn't seem to work then what have we got to lose. Time & again CP brings on defenders for attackers instead on bringing on a player that can keep hold of the ball, run at defenders and move us up the pitch......as I said, it can't be any worse than what usually happens so why not give it a try.

The twitter commentary sounded like thuram made some good saves, not so?
Wigan fans don't seem to think so.
He's on the fringes of the France World Cup squad, apparently.
Anyone who actually believes he is of a similar calibre to keepers like Lloris or Mandanda is severely deluded. He looks closer to Andy Petterson from what I've seen.
He has a world class surname, but that seems to be it!
We are going down with a wimper. We should be at least trying to attack. Will Powell ever learn to not bring on defenders for midfielders to see out games!
Powell is costing us points but it is all good he is a top bloke.
Bringing on Dervite has helped us protect leads too, it's just that it's the time we concede after doing so that are remembered. If Powell had been supported this year, by both the old owners and the new, I am certain we would not be in our current predicament. He has his hands tied. For sure he makes mistakes, we all do, but the ONE time he has been backed he stormed the league with 101 points. He has proven himself to be a successful manager when given backing.
Indianaaddick">Massive score a late winner. Like I said if CP does not turn this around next three games he will go.
CP has not learnt from the many mistakes made this season. For that reason alone he deserves to go. 5 wins in 27 nowhere near good enough. CP cannot think on his feet. The inability to quickly compute changes required to change games regularly witnessed at the valley led us to drawing games we should've won. Sad but I'm afraid if you definitely want to play FL1 next season then stick with the devil you know.
I don't think today's defeat had anything to do with new players not knowing each other or missing players that have been sold, but down to tactics.
I said I'd leave the thread, but ...
Of course you do Golfie, because the tactics are down to Powell ... and we all know how you feel about him don't we, you bang on about it enough. It would be ludicrous to suggest it had something to do with anything in my post earlier.
Why can you never just show some faith!!!!! The bloke has worked wonders in the past and any other person would have walked at the situation put upon him recently. But he's still working hard to keep the moaners like you happy.
We now must beat Brum next Saturday or CP will surely go. Management team is weak. What does Alex Dyer do btw? Did he actually have any meaningful coaching experience prior to be drafted in by CP.

i was listening to the wigan commentary, their fellas were taking me back to football italia days, great passion!
