Just back from Wigan. Posting without reading. Gutted we lost in that way but encouraged by the performance of Reza, who looked a real live wire until he was made somewhat redundant up front in the second half. Poyet and Lennon definite pluses given their inexperience. Nego - the most incompetent display at right back I have seen in a long, long time - let's be kind and say he looked woefully short of match practice. Thuram was, well, astonishing - punching everything that came his way, hence the Wigan corner count. A goalkeeping style unlike anything I've seen in nearly fifty years of Charlton watching (at least we only have him for 6 months!). I sincerely hope that Nego and Thuram are in the team only because of lack of options in their positions. Of course, we badly need a strong CM and for Parzyszek to be the forward we all hope he is - but just as urgently we need Hamer and Solly back!
Seeing as we have a goalkeeping coach then I suggest that all next week Ben Roberts takes Thuram to a spare goal at the training ground and keep giving him balls to CATCH - not PUNCH or FLAP AT.
what is most galling about our imminent drop into League 1 is that next season in the Championship there could be loads of London derbies with the likes of Fulham, West Ham, Brentford, Orient, Millwall and maybe even QPR if they don't go up.
So much bed-wetting going on here that its beyond embarrassing and the people saying "we are as good as down" are a fucking disgrace.
This is NOTHING LIKE the Pardew/Parkison shambles, on that occasion we were bringing in shit like Tresor Kandol and Graeme Murty, we are now bringing in serious young players with real pedigree and there is no comparison between then and now.
What are needed here are cool, calm heads to prevail and to recognize that we are still only halfway through the season and there is everything still to play for so its time to stick tight and get behind the team and SCP.
Sure there are some questions surrounding RD but from what I can see the bloke is finally pumping some fresh blood - and maybe even bloody good value blood too - into the club, something we desperately needed.
The seeds for this season were sown in the summer transfer clusterfuck in which two good strikers, Haynes and Fuller, were allowed to leave and we basically didn't replace them until it was too late and even then with sub-standard replacements.
The squad has stagnated since winning L1 because Powell has not had the funds to refresh it, he finally has those funds now and we look to be paying proper money for the likes of Two-Metre-Peter and others.
This is a pivotal moment for the club, let's not fuck up our part in making sure things go the right way.
Make you right generally Ormiston, but this business with the goalkeepers is seriously bad, and the worse for being totally unnecessary. What money has been saved/brought in by this bizarre switch? Sweet FA

I'm assuming you didn't see todays game then?
We were so inferior to Wigan it was embarrassing, 68% possession to them. If we cannot sign at least three decent midfielders when the loan window opens we don't have a chance of staying up.
Ok Wigan are a decent side, but when we are losing 3-0 to Doncaster who are our relegation rivals, things aren't looking to good are they!
Sack Powell now! He isn't good enough!he should of walked when yann went that was down to him! Let him go il have warnock or Jol
Why was Yann leaving down to the gaffer ?
Yann was offered a contract , decided that he had a better offer from B'mth , then although he was desperate to stay with us faced the prospect of the manager that had revitalised his career leaving at the end of the season .....this was allegedly always going to be a sticking point.
Some need to get this performance into perspective:
We were playing a vastly changed side from last time. The manager/rest of the team knew little about some of the players new players. My guess is that Powell had little say in all the changes. Preparation for the game must have been pretty disrupted during the week - when was Powell able to decide on his team, did he even have a chance Wigan had only lost 1 of their 11 previous games - and have an experienced and settled side We lost Wiggins after 8 minutes, his replacement is an inexperienced Centre Back Many of the team have little experience of Championship football We came very near to getting a result despite all the naysayers expecting that we would suffer a beating
SCP has shown enormous dignity and loyalty through all the goings on this week - and despite everything the team gave a well organised performance that nearly got a result away to a good team. The team spirit as ever looked to be very good. What do the critics want him to do walk on water.
I just hope the players have rather more confidence in themselves and the manager than the critics - otherwise we will definitely be relegated. Today told me that they do and we will be ok. New team - but the backbone is still there COYR.

I get the impression which in some ways is even worse, that Thuram has come in to gain match practice. From the reports seriously worried about him. the problem is no5t just about goalkeeping, but once you get an irrational character in goal it breeds uncertainty in defence.
I hope that this was a one off poor performance and someone will get hold of him during the week.
stop letting your hearts rule your head, CP nice guy Charlton through and through but not good enough, through the season players one minute in the team next minute out, seems to pick the team out of a hat, substitutions awful. Lump it up to Yann every week its been poor all season. WE NEED A CHANGE....As for Yann he can xxxx off if you dont want to play for Charlton and would rather play for Bournemout . Come on stop being cummunity, fair play nice club Charlton and stop thinking it will come good on its own
Just came home from a family birthday, managed to hear the first half on the radio and the second half in the car, really gutted for the team, they really faught bravely. Very impressed with Poyet, who I didn't expect to debut and play this much this early, even though we haven't got many other alternatives - I'm glad people thing he did well today. Him and Cousins can form a great midfield in the future I believe! Can't wait to see Reza and Piotr together as well. We've got to remember what conditions the team were under today - one of the top teams in the division, Wiggins injured very early, solly still out of the lineup, many new faces in the squad, match ban for one of the better performing players of the season - we had 3 academy players playing many minutes. Keep your heads up, if we maintain the fighting spirit we showed today, we'll be just fine! COYR!
Just back, comedy goalkeeper. Thought was going to be a northern 0-1 smash and grab that have enjoyed so much under CP but Thuram is a clown and if that's what CP has to deal with then wouldn't blame him for launching into RD right now. Hamer or Alnwick could have seen that out and given defence a chance. Only so many fires defenders can fight before you get burned.
Whilst trying hard not to criticise those in the red shirts, a certain well known journo & avid Addick was incandescent when we met at the Services on the way down the M1a full 2+ hours after the final whistle. He totally shares your views on our new " No 1" goalie , as do many others there today and stated that unless something changes soon, he will take us down.
Strong words indeed but if the rumours around the Donny game are to be believed, this is one area where the gaffer has no choice at all.
I wasn't around yesterday until late last night & out of range of internet access so am unsure whether the departure of Ben A has been discussed on here...All I will add is that it was madness to let the holder of THE shirt leave for a SL player whose arrival at our Club had many scratching their heads ....probably including SCP.
When Ben H is fit, will he get the opportunity to regain his place ?
We were absolutely shite in keeping possession we were asking for that. Powell will be gone tonight and I won't be annoyed . Boring Charlton
Were you there , Mike ?
If you think our possession, or lack of it was poor today, then you can't have witnessed any live performances this season.
Will post more when I've had a cuppa as I WAS there today .
The 2nd half was probably one of the most one-sided games you will ever see, as we were playing hoof ball. Cousins & Nego just booted the ball into touch everytime it was on that side.

Not sure why the new regime think it's a good idea to force a goalie on a team in a relegation scrap when the current ones that have been chosen by the manager are doing a good job. GK was not the position we needed changing in this window. Not in a million years. Totally illogical.
Then CP nees to grow some & not pick him. If RD then sacks him then so be it. Stand up for your principles instead of sitting on your backside & not doing anything about it !!!
So, you'll be fully supportive of young Dillon Phillips against Brum next Saturday, Golfie ?
He's our only option at the minute in case you'd forgotten.
Posting without reading , in Hotel room steak and chips ordered , chocolate brownies and ice cream for the kids .... Good atmosphere as you'd expect being 0-1 up for so long but all game I was saying to my son and nephew once they get one they'll get two , they were on top that much ... Although didn't expect them to get 2 that late on..... I've informed them that this is what it's like supporting Charlton , I looked my 8 year old in the eye and said do you still love em and he said yes , eat your heart out derren brown I can hypnotise and brainwash too! Of the new guys Nego makes Ashley young look beefy but he did well first half and tailed off much better than I thought , there's hope there AA is a player but hasn't got the legs to get around or last the game yet but still hope there Gooooooooch , amazing shot that hit the underside of bar and has ability but goes to ground far too easily and the ref was having none of it , once again hope there Poyet , wow mustard looked like he was orchestrating it and I liked him big time , big plus from today Lennon , much improved from Donny and done as well as you could hope against whatever Mac he was up against , potential there And I've saved the worse till last Thuram , I'm not one for the euro keeper style of punching everything and he wants to punch everything , second half he was punching the ball like a right handed girl would with her left , he got away with murder a few times and on another day he'll deffo cost us a goal , if he can be taught to punch or catch properly he may have a chance As a whole Wigan were dominant and we didn't have a chance to go forward too much because we were under the cosh apart from the odd foray forward throughout the game I thought Pritch done ok when he came on and I'm not a fan Dervite was an extra body at the back because we were getting battered any attacking substitution would have left more gaps for them to exploit Morro had an off day and Wiggo going off was never gonna help Slightly more optimistic now than I was before the match about survival
Good new remix of Chrissy Powells Red Army GOOOOOOCH aired today
Defeats that late are gonna test my self control in not eating a load of chocolate to take away the pain !
37% Championship football next season 63% The delights of League One to be sampled again
Fantastic summary of the afternoon, oohaah !
If I fall asleep before page 10 & fail to post my own thoughts, this is good enough for me.
Back from the game. Very much agree with the observations of Siv and others. Some thoughts:
I was amazed at the attitude of the players today - Okay, we lost, but they were really up for it (even Sordell, for the most part) and CP deserves credit for this. It was all a bit disorganised when we found ourselves in an attacking position with lots of attacks petering out to nothing with a bad pass - but what else should we expect from a team full of players that barely know each other? Some very encouraging performances today, despite the result. It can't have been easy for the likes of Nego, being thrown in at the deep end against a good team away from home, but I thought he did really well. Poyet clearly has class and could be a key player for us - lots of maturity and intelligence for his age. Astrit gave his all and was knackered towards the end. Lennon did very well, under the circumstances. Yohan the GK indeed likes a punch, which tends to make things interesting...to be fair to him, though, he did well until the dam broke in the last five minutes. Reza played well and was exciting, however he got knocked off the ball a lot and the ref (who gave us virtually nothing all game, I might add) was not interested. He will mostly certainly have to learn to adjust to the rough and tumble of this league. He was up for it, though and a tricky customer - I'm looking forward to seeing more from him. Shame not to see Pietr today, but I have a good feeling about our two exotic new strikers. Wiggy getting injured today was crucial. We needed to put Church on very late in the game to give us an outlet, but we had run out of subs. Should he have put him on instead of Dervite? Maybe. The deflation of conceding an equaliser made the winner almost inevitable; not least because we were playing attack vs defence for the last 10 minutes.
Great support today and up until the last ten minutes or so (including a great new 'Gooch/CP' chant - although I would prefer that they call him Reza, as he does himself), it was really buzzing. Honestly did not hear the Wigan fans at all until they scored and then they woke up. A bit pathetic, really.
Overall, gutting to lose in the way we did, but I expected a right shoe-ing, which didn't happen. This performance and the fight in the players today actually gives me grounds for real optimism as when they get to know each other a bit better and we get a couple more loans in, we could be fine. I hope.
Don't give up people, we're not done yet.
WOW ! The great posts keep coming ! ( from those at the game )

Sorry Fanny. I think this is a put down response. In this day and age people can make quite an informed decision on how a game has gone by not actually being at the game. It does not preclude them from having an opinion.
just read CP on club web site “Hopefully we can march on and try and get the points to get us out of the bottom three.” Hopefully what cant believe it, we need battle cries. Is that the words of a confident, up for the challenge manager " hopefully"

Where in that correct scenario, is SCP to blame ?
Unbelievable spin.
I hope that this was a one off poor performance and someone will get hold of him during the week.
