We wasnt brilliant mate but we battled and played some good stuff at times in 1st half, the battling qualities and a little bit if luck is what we need going into this important part if the season , results are wot matter now and we really need to get behind the team cos they are gonna need us , gotta say hughesy gave us the chest pump salute it was great to see cos passion is wot this club is about.
come sarf of the river sometime & you may find out. Igno
Ok Rob, I'll give you a view from someone not there. Look at the team:
Goalie - 2nd game for us RB - 1st game for us and about his 21st ever pro game LB after 5 mins - 3rd ever pro game, out of position Midfield: one pro debut, one in his first pro season, one making his second start for us having barely played this season Up front: striker making his debut not having played since Nov
If this was first match of season we'd be pretty positive by the potential there. Shows incredible team spirit that we were in the lead for 85 mins...and some credit for that has to go to manager and coaching team who have just had one hell of a week...or are we not allowed semi positive / realistic posts if we weren't there?
>Well done to the 729 Addicks up there , all with sore throats.... For us that's decent numbers !
Only 898 less than what palace brought for the FA Cup fixture last week :-(
Wellwickman Forget palarse, light years behind them. The holloway road (comprehendez) now posing biggest threat to our survival. Hopefully we've not hit the wall by the time we venture to scumsville.
No doubt that Thuram's keeping was a bit eccentric but could not do much with either goal.
People have been claiming he should have stopped the free-kick but that was a great strike, went in right next to the foot of the post.
I agree OA.. He seems to be getting a lot of stick but he is highly rated so I think we just need to give him some time to adapt to the Championship.. or at least until Hamer is fit!
Saw this clip of the free kick on youtube and there doesn't look like there was much he could do from this angle. Looks a decent strike.
how can anyone blame the keeper for that goal, its just ridiculous, its a great freekick executed excellently, i get the feeling this lad is the next scape goat

D if u would av seen him mate u would av been cracking up ,ok he did stop a few but as said earlier we are in for some heart stopping moments.
Not blaming keeper about free kick was an ok strike , the wall wasnt great and maybe keeper could av done better giving away the free kick in that position was terrible , a teams strenghth starts with the keeper which gives everyone confidence from wot i saw saturday thuram needs to improve and quickly .
Cant believe people on this site, is Ben Hamer that nuch better he has flapped at a lot last couple of seasons and you would think Ben Alnwick was such a massive loss he wasnt that great....Same with Dale Stephens CP didnt pick him half the time i dont blame him for leaving....anyway players/mamnagers come and go I support Charlton and as soon as you dont wear the shirt you can do one.
I've watched both games Thuram has played in, unconventional, continental call it what you like. At Boro he 'Weetabixed ' the shot for their goal, and if you aren't old enough to remember the advert it was of a dodgy keeper who couldn't catch a cold but stopped everything once he had his Weetabix. To be fair we were all at the far end for both the Wigan goals so didn't have the benefit of slow mo but even in real time he looked as if, as Ooha said, he goes down late. IF you had seen what had preceded with the flaps, the weak punches and static positioning as balls whistled past the goal framework you would be as worried as Boogica as I am. What we needed in that last ten minutes was a keeper to dominate his area just like Alnwick did at Udders (I was there as well!) but no, we had someone who was creating more panic and uncertainty. I hope it is rustiness but I doubt it, if this guy becomes our first choice god help us although I'd be delighted if he proves me wrong and keeps us up. Defend him and make as many excuses for him as much as you want but I know what I have witnessed with my own eyes and it has not been encouraging.
You've just brought this to my attention mog and the only thing I can think of is that it offended the real ale Nazis. You know how protective they are of their pints of Ol' Sweaty Jockstrap ;-)
Only from TV replays but he did seem to go down late. If he has a left footer lining up to take a kick, then either he has to have the wall further over so it can't go round that side or he has to be near post covering that shot.
Continued un-orthodox keeping is going to suck the confidence out of he rest of the defence.
Haven't read any of these comments but having watched the low-lights on the player we were undone by two pieces of sublime skill. The defense splitting pass for Fortune was the best I've seen in years at our level. And if Yann had scored that free kick we would have been drooling. I understand why he made those tactical substitutions at the end but it always ends in tears when he does it. He never learns. Fully expected to lose but absolutely gutted at the way we lost. Still 57 to play for. We're not down yet but we need an almighty slice of luck. COYA
Thuram was too far to his left before it had even been hit. Terrible positioning. He's then beaten at his near post. Terrible goalkeeping. It's a soft goal to concede and he is the only one to blame. I wonder what he reaction would have been if it had been Ben Hamer who had let those goals in.
At this stage of the season don't think we need an ''unconventional'' keeper getting fit for possibility of World Cup. In my opinion he has cost us points, this can't instill confidence in the rest of defence. I have always rated Hamer and Allnick but will give this guy a chance saturday. Hope by then (from reading previous comments) he has learn't how to catch the ball! At least previous regeme didn't pick the team (as far as I know)!
J did thuram make any good saves or was it just mad punching and pushing the ball away
He made a couple mate , but mostly punched nd pushed away like most european keepers also had a couple on the deck which maybe should av gathered instead used his legs , wait and see on saturday how he goes?
I think we have made a big error in letting Alnwick go.Surely anyone at wigan sat would have been worried if thats what we have got to look forward to from our keeper.Tough call on the goals but his general keeping was erratic at best.As has been said we needed someone like Alnwick who can command hia area.Feel we have let go an in form keeper who was looking to stake a good claim to be number 1 keeper hope we dont live to regret it.
