That goal was never going to stand and 99 refs out of 100 would have chalked it off. Are we certain it was for the foul though and not the ball out of play before the cross? Wiggins is never going to get away with a challenge like that these days and I'd bet we won't appeal. Keeper was unlucky with the goal as it bounced just in front of him.
In work today to help pay for yesterdays trip! Bit hard to take as didn't enjoy the trip or the game. Don't think we were really outplayed just we had no output from the midfield to much sideways passing before a final hoofball ,playing yann as the last man looked so wrong He looked like he didnt want that responsibility? Yann always needs someone to play off his shoulder? As for our new keeper don't know why he's getting so much abuse he kept us in with a chance second half
Some of what you say troubles me as well.... The sideways then hoof up has happened all season... For me, the coaching isn't up to scratch. If this improves, I'm sure we'll do better. Whether CP is the man... Not convinced.
Let me take you back, Fanny, to the first game of this season. We had finished ninth in the previous, and Bournemouth had just come up from the Third. All worries aside, we should have shown our class and stamped our authority on them on that fine and optimistic day in August. We lost, 2-1.
It's no accident that we lost the next game, home to Middlesbrough, with one of the most hapless performances I've seen in 50 years. Some people missed Pritchard - banned from the reckless red-card at Bournemouth -
It ain't over till the fat bloke sings, have some belief. The takeover is creating instability until the dust settles and this will be reflected in the performances on the pitch. Game in hand, or 2 as Bournemouth are still in the cup, better goal difference and everyone below gets a win. That's not going to happen every week it's a fluke. Still think we are in a better position to recover from this than we were a month ago. COYAs

The fat lady singing? We should be lucky. Mention me to her sister, and I've got the sherbets in Port Vale.

Why on earth was it never going to stand? What does he do wrong? He jumps for the ball with his arms by his side doesn't do anything which could be considered out of turn if you ask me. If that is a foul then the FA need to change the rules now to make it implicit that outfield players simply aren't permitted to make any sort of contact whatsoever with goalkeepers.
From what happened at Liege, RD is clearly not afraid to chuck his weight around and pull whatever triggers he thinks need pulling. Rightly or wrongly, if he doesn't think CP is up to the job, he'll get rid of him, no sentiment or even consideration to fans' approval or affection.
If CP lasts the next week or two, I reckon he'll be here for at least the rest of this season. If he's going, it will happen soon, a new manager/toady in quickly and a bunch of loanees/cast-offs from Liege and this Spanish club before the 31st.
we didn't really give it a go against a team who were no great shakes even given their recent form. We did not look up for it and it was very typical of many of our below par performances this season. We were organised enough to not get out played but we did so little to trouble either their back four or beyond them Given. We lack belief on the field and in the stands but as everyone realises we need better quality as an attackung threat. Those that think it is just one or two that we need are misguided in my opinion. The majority or our players are sound defensively and well disciplined but we are threadbare on forward strategy. I fear we are in a very similar situation (albeit a league better off)as three seasons ago and need a complete overhaul if we are to be taken serioiusly in this division.

And your point is what, Viewfinder ?
You lost me somewhere amongst the triple quoted post from stevec.....
Seen the highlights. From the angle of the camera it looks like bad positioning and diving too early then the bad bounce. Thuram is a big goal keeper, with Pat Jennings like hands and may prove to be a strong keeper. Maybe to be charitable the goal was down to rustiness. Unfortunately it was one of the key moments of the game.
Stroud always gives us nothing and with Simon Church jumping in the way that he did, it is not surprise that the Charlton goal was disallowed. Church does seem to give a lot of fouls away, did he need to jump in like that ? He is a useful squad player but not a person you can depend upon for goals and the miss at the end looked very poor. With a half decent goal scorer, Charlton would have got a least a point out of the game.
The Wiggins sending off looked harsh, Stroud showed no hesitation but you didn't expect him to. Disappointing.
Without a decent striker and a decent right midfield, Charlton are going to struggle to avoid relegation. Everybody has said this a 100 times already. This is even more so with the rumours that Solly may need some more work on his leg (from Chicago Addick).
Is Richard Murray communicating this obvious fact to Roland Duchalet ? If he is it would be helpful to know that the old and new management are aware of the difficulties and are making plans to remedy the problem. Communication and reassurance with resolution of weaknesses needed pronto. There is only a short time to sort it
It is hard to be critical of Church, because he sweats blood for the cause, but maybe he hasn't got the balance between endeavour and quality right. I couldn't believe in the first half against Oxford when through, admittedly on a tight angle, that he didn't take a step or two in and have a shot across the goal. For me, that is a basic that is should be in every goalscorer's DNA. He will always be a nuisance to defenders, but usually one they can control. Not a bad player to bring on to add energy when chasing a game, but no more. The way we play, we also need to get behind defenders and run at them. We need a player who can do this.
A priority is a striker to move up the table and a creator to make things really interesting. 2 players- but if I had bought a club that could be dramatically improved by 2 players, I'd be right on it. The only problem I can see, is that RD doesn't trust Powell and isn't going to make a significant investment unless he proves himself (which takes time) or he sacks him (which requires time for a new manager to be able to bring players in). I really want Chrissy to stay in charge and now is the time where his players have to stand up for him - not by words of support, but in their performances. It has to start at Oxford, as a poor result there and that's it I fear. So none of this crap that we saw on Tuesday - quite a few of the lads should have been ashamed of themselves in the first half.
I think Powell can be saved and the trajectory turned into an upward one, but the moment is now and the players have to show their loyalty to the gaffer how it really matters. If I was JJ, I would be holding a player meeting and be qiving this rallying call.
On the brief tape I have seen of the game our new goalie looks big and powerful, which normally means commanding in the box. Can someone who was there tell me if he was commanding on crosses and corners etc.
Just seen the highlights on replay. How on earth was our goal ruled out, that was a shocking decision and as for the red card, never in a million years. I am really pissed off about the refereeing decisions this season, they have probably cost us 6+ points so far which would see us in relative mid-table security.
I think when you take everything into account, the net impact has been significantly more than 6 points. For some reason, we find ourselves at the wrong end of a lot of decisions. Accepting refs do not cheat - it would be good to understand why that may be.
How mad were the results today lads? we got a decent point away at Burnley but everyone else won! unreal.
Our next two games are MASSIVE!
You will be fine, reckon it's the likes of Bolton & Blackpool who should be worried and looking over there shoulders, can't see Wednesday having any problems.
I feel frustrated reading the apparently endless litany of excuses some are willing to make for the limitations of our players and management.
Just as Bradley Pritchard will never be a Championship standard right sided midfielder, so Church will never be a Championship standard striker. Their selections are costing us points we cannot afford to lose. Some will say that the manager has no choice, but what about Michael Smith and Diego Poyet waiting in the wings?
It seems to me that we are now approaching the stage at Charlton where our owner should consider "doing a Sunderland", and replacing Powell with a new manager who can at least provide a short term galvanising jolt to our current squad, particularly if there are no new players arriving in January. Powell's comments in the media in recent weeks are like his brand of football- deeply uninspiring.
Are we going to stay up this season with this same manager and this same group of players. I believe that the answer is 'no', and that it is easier to get rid of the manager than 12-15 players.

I'm not sure Church would even do it in League One if I'm brutally honest. Is he any better than BWP? No. BWP is probably a better forward.

Agree with this entirely. Would rather have BWP. At least he got chances (albeit he missed a lot of them). He was more of a threat and worked well with Kerm.
I suspect BWPs wages were significantly more than Church's though!

Obviously far too cryptic for little old me
My apologies, Fanny - I suffered a brain failure caused by a surfeit of sherbets.
I am starting to think that we will see a new manager appointed this week. Quite frankly I do not trust CP to get us out of this mess, we need a strong bastard with proven experience, not a lovely guy who appears to be waiting quietly to learn his fate.
