Shame cp still insists on changing the the team and formation around so he can fit Jackson in from the start. He is pretty much loading the gun for Roland.
Doubt we will see the latter until after Feb 7th when the loan window re-opens.
As AFKA first defeat for a while and we weren't thrashed but we are in a relegation fight and have been for a while. And a defeat is still a defeat.
I still think we are not that far off being a decent side but margins in this league are tiny.
Is Powell at risk? Yes and he has been ever since the new owner came in imho.
I hope he stays but won't be shocked if he goes. Don't want him to go and don't think he deserves to go. With backing he will improve the team.
But it is a bit chicken and egg with RD. Seems he wants to see how the boss does before giving Chris money to spend but if he doesn't spend then he risks seeing his new team relegated.
Whatever RD does, he needs to get his arse in gear. 3 players in and not one of them a striker, which is what we desperately need. I still don't know whether he intends to give CP the resources to actually do something about stopping us being relegated. Just giving us SL castoffs won't cut it.
If he's playing a game where he fails to give CP backing so he can watch him struggle and then use this as an excuse to give him the tin-tack, then he won't feel such a cunning strategist when he realises that he now owns a league one club that will proceed to piss away his money at an alarming rate.
Hey Mr RD, protect your investment and get a decent striker in ASAP, please*
*and that doesn't mean an untested SL youth team player/reject
I suspect that the new owner is prepared to invest absolutely zero euros into the club this winter. .. We need a new striker, but Powell is not making the most of who he does have. We are not scoring goals, as has been mentioned, we have lost umpteen games 1-0 .. it does not take a genius to work out that the defence is OK, what is lacking is G O A L S .. playing one man alone up front will not solve the problem .. we need a 4 4 2 with two strikers and at least one winger .. look at Manchester City, playing 'old fashioned' 4 4 2 and making mincemeat of all comers .. we don't have Dzeko, Negredo and all but I repeat, we do not make the best of what we do have. Doncaster: if we approach this game in a defensive manner, I will know that Powell has lost the plot and that relegation is a very distinct possibility. One last point .. has the takeover done Anything to improve CAFC ? .. is improvement on the horizon, be it near or far ?.. all it has done so far is to come to the financial rescue of the previous owners .. I hope that success in the first division is not all that we have to look forward to .. early days Yes .. but the days are passing oh so quickly
This is just my opinion. But I think that the reason Roland has been here two weeks but has failed to start contract talks is because he doesn't rate the majority of the team. Why renew contracts for players in a team that struggle week after week. In Roland's opinion we can probably do better. This probably also includes Chris Powell, and sadly I think that Chris is living on borrowed time. I think that within the next few months we will have a new manager with fresh ideas.
It sounded like we came back at them and but for the sending off we could have got an equaliser. So no I am still optimistic we can stay in the championship and refuse to accept the team is in the worst three. We showed that we can battle today. Its a shame it always only seems to be in the second half. But we are battling and that is all you can expect with the players we have. It feels like half the team are Academy players and how does that size up with the other teams in this division. We need experienced hungry players ideally from the championship but if there is no money then from the lower leagues. I back Powell 100% . No one could get more out of the players.
Very depressing, our lack of goals has slowly sucked us right in the relegation mix, we can all see the problem, I have no doubt CP could turn things around with a little investment, but sadly I don't think he will be given the chance, think he'll be gone within the month. This guy will put his own people in, he did it at Standard Liege a big club in Belgium and won't even think twice about doing it here.
We have been shit all season----- its the old owners---its CP----its the contract issue----its the pitch.
All of the above im sure but bottom line is we dont have enough Championship standard players with a manger that is struggling(reasons above) and we have new owners who 3 weeks ago knew f++k all about CAFC or our players----------------looks like a perfect relegation storm to me.
I cant see them geting ride of CP at the moment but if you were the new owners looking at us would you give CP a 3 year deal and pump loads more dosh in ?
lets be clear at the moment there ARE NOT 3 worse teams than us in this league.
Think we may have seen Wiggy's last game in a red shirt unfortunately. He will be sold in the window if cPbis correct. Other results have hurt us badly today. Our own result was not entirely unexpected but we could not have predicted the others. It a toss up between CP and freedman for the next sacking. I also worry that Solly is crocked. All in all a very bad day at the office. The only silver lining is that it may force Roland''s hand.
Considering the run boro have been on I'm surprised we only lost 1-0. Sounds like although Thuram may have been at fault for the first_(wasn't there so only going by twitter and reports on here) but he kept us in it with some good saves, again from the sound of it. We desperately need a striker I admit I hope that's sorted soon. Smith not even making the bench suggests Powell doesn't think he is ready so he will be off again and I really hope in turn that means they have someone in mind to bring in.
As said losing was unexpected. Let's hope for better next time. I'm sure I said that last time ;-)

All this 'Powell Out', 'Powell In' stuff is nonsense. All I want is for Charlton to get better. Let's face it, everything is pretty dire at the moment. Roland is here now and he'll want us to push forward and if that means taking a different approach and replacing the management then so be it. I'm not going to fight that. At the end of the day, it's imperative we stay up this season so we can regroup during the summer on and off the field. Relegation would not be a good thing.
First half was abismal and Thuram should have done better with their goal.
Second half IMO we were all over them and deserved at least a draw, don't think church's goal should have been ruled out? And Givens last minute save was a moment of quality.
Thuram, although at fault for the goal, made a couple of very very good saves after and also looks very calm and confident.
Not entirely gutted due to the second half.
Also noticed we had a Belgian in our end singing songs and cheering to bring Astrit on
Be grateful if someone who was there could say exactly how the team lined up. Was it a straight 4-5-1; or a sort of 4-2-3-1; or a 4-1-4-2 with Cousins in front of the back 4?
Big supporter of Powell, but today was bad and I believe the axe is now being sharpened. I heard over Christmas that Solly's knee is proper fucked. Church despite all the other aspects of his game being admirable couldn't score in a brothel. JJ isnt just over the hill, he's free falling down the other side of it. No selection for Smith is disappointing after doing everything he could on loan, not even the bench? I kind of hope this squad is due to a flu bug tearing through the club but I'm worried now....
4-5-1 with Kermorgant as lone CF hasnt worked before and was never gonna work today. As I said in the preview Cook & Jacko don't have the pace to get beyond Kermorgant to attack the space beyond and Harriott was in to provide width & crosses on the left. I'll be interested to hear from those in attendance if we actually looked like scoring or caused their B4 any problems.
We need af least 2x Championship quality additions. A striker who can score 10 goals between now and the end of season and has the ability to hold it up. With an attacking midfielder with a bit of pace, who makes runs in behind the CF. Otherwise we ain't gonna score enough goals to be able to stay up. The current group ain't producing enough, (although we still don't know if Smith can do it for us).
The current plan seems to be a gamble on bringing in players from across the channel. But are they good enough or capable of adapting to English football? It looks too chancey to me.
As far as I can see, we have 13 days to improve the squad or risk going back down.
The thing about football is those that want CP gone will get their way soon enough, whoever comes in will get the same courtesy from the fans and in the end will end up being told by fans he is not good enough and the cycle will return
we wont go down but I don't expect people to believe it why should they, but I do find it hilarious that some of you want fight and passion from players but are so clouded with doom you have no bottle yourselves to think anything other than negative
I really do hope that football is the only thing that makes you feel that way, as otherwise your lives must be pretty grim
grow a pair of bollox, back the mgr who ever that turns out to be for the remainder of the season and fight for every point together
1-nil away to one of the form teams in the division a goal disallowed and a keeper thrown into the fire due to an injury and illness yet the white flags are out already
Very difficult decisions for the new owner to make . Leaving aside anything else that he has witnessed first hand he has seen a woeful performance at home to Sheffield Wednesday and since his ownership would at least have heard about a shocker against Oxford and now today's defeat. Powell is on borrowed time there can be no doubt. But what has he got / now have to work with ?how can you really blame the bloke? He goes with a negative line up because that's what is forced on him with injuries / loss of form particularly upfront. No Sordell , Church being out of form ,Pigott and Smith not being up to it/ too much of a gamble means that he has to try Cook with Kerms having previously also tried Harriott without success.if I were RD I would hold my nerve with respect to CP and get in at least one but preferably two strikers who are likely to make a difference to secure Championship football next year assuming such players can be persuaded to join.A right back also looks like an absolute priority. But will RD do that and spend cash that he would rather avoid until at least the summer? Think today's result and not just our loss but the results of others around us will force his hand to get players in . Would not be surprised also to see a number moved out sharpish rather than over the summer to start balancing the books and freeing up space : Hamer,Cook ,Smith ,Pigott, Gower.Evina is lucky also not to be on that list but Wiggins suspension has dealt him a stay of execution .
I hate to admit it but I think I will be more surprised if Powell stays than if he go's! My two eldest were at the game and both said a point would have been fair. I don't think RD will worry about that though. If he is gonna change manager it will be sooner than later so the new guy can get in players. This week will be interesting.

Interesting times.
If roland wants to spend some wedge on transfers powelly wont dissapoint in the market. Sadly like others I think it will just be frees and loans.

Well they WERE beneath us!
Our next two games are MASSIVE!
