  • We are in a bit of bovver, Roland wants time to assess things, however we aint got time. He needs to grow a pair and make a desicion back him or sack him, but do whatever you are going to do now.
  • will be done this week mate I reckon, and I have no idea what way he will go, if honest I fear for chris powell
  • Funny how some of you have already turned RD into public enemy nummer 1 after only a couple of weeks in charge especially considering he has already delivered us three new players, not sacked anyone yet and promised to fix our joke of a pitch!
  • The thing about football is those that want CP gone will get their way soon enough, whoever comes in will get the same courtesy from the fans and in the end will end up being told by fans he is not good enough and the cycle will return

we wont go down but I don't expect people to believe it why should they, but I do find it hilarious that some of you want fight and passion from players but are so clouded with doom you have no bottle yourselves to think anything other than negative

I really do hope that football is the only thing that makes you feel that way, as otherwise your lives must be pretty grim

grow a pair of bollox, back the mgr who ever that turns out to be for the remainder of the season and fight for every point together

1-nil away to one of the form teams in the division a goal disallowed and a keeper thrown into the fire due to an injury and illness yet the white flags are out already

    Great post.

Get Curbs out. Get Murray out. Get Jimminez out. Get Powell out.

All gets a bit tedious in the end.

Charlton fans - running up the white flag since 1905.
  • who kiwi I haven't read anyone making him public enemy, I think people have not understood that there is no magic wand and the man knows football, so he will take his time,

I actually don't think Roland has a plan for Charlton at this stage which is borne out by his obsession with buying clubs. It all seems very odd to me. A bit like someone adopting 5 kids from 5 different continents. . . . .and not planning to live with any of them. Do you know what I mean and why this situation has me worried?

Why on earth would you fork out 20 mill of your hard earned dosh if you didn't have a plan? I'm sorry I just don't buy it.
  • Rock and a hard place.. Away to boro one up front go one down fairly early what do u do.. Watching that footballers show the other week powelly knows his stuff tactics wise so why the feck it goes out the window come 3pm is beyond me. Watch that show again listen to him, excitied positive forward thinking.. What do we get? Scared defensive tepid dross. Powelly now is the time.. Be bold be brave go for it if your gona go go fighting playing good football show the owners your brave you will fight to the end keep serving up this and i fear u wont see u valentines day.

Has it crossed your mind that maybe we just don't have enough quality in the side to play this expansive type of attacking football?

but we cannot win at home (inability to score again)

other than the six goals we've scored in our last three home matches?

Powell should stay RD needs to back him with a few quid for players its wot the man deserves if they get rid if him i will be disgusted.

It's not about what he deserves though. It's about results on the pitch and that will decide it for Roland.

Agree but u can only work with wot u av got , in the last 2 years he has had fuck all money to spend on players and by that i mean decent players .
  • Do find it funny that our results turn from 1 loss in 6 to 1 win in 10 depending on how pessimistic you are.

Think Powell is the man to take us forward, but being given no help whatsoever and has been left with a League One side now for 2 years with most of our quality strikers removed.
  • As said earlier what is now painfully obvious is that we only have around half a dozen players who can cut it at Championship level.

One of those, it would appear, is doubtful that they may not fully recover from a knee injury. And so it goes on.

Pains me to think that Chris Powell is clinging onto his job right now.

Our problems on the pitch have been, and seemingly remain, finance related - we are short of attacking options and quality in midfield.
IMO, if the shape of the current squad stays the same, there is a far greater chance of staying up with CP in charge, than with an alternative.

2 against a league 2 side rather boosts the figures artificially. Brighton was a refreshing change I grant you with 3 1 against Piggy's lot was par if we are lucky until then.

  • On the long train journey back.

We were (as so often we are) ok but were impotent going forward and only had one decent strike on goal at the death, which Given saved extremely well.

We let in a soft goal before half time and it was one that our new keeper should most certainly have saved. Just a view from someone who was there, with an extremely good view of it. He made a couple of good saves in the second half but he cost us that goal.

In short, a poor game of Championship football, in which Middlesbrough were a off the pace but we were unable to capitalise.

Reminiscent, in some ways, of the game at Reading.

The one we dare not lose is Donny on Tuesday week

Much appreciate your assessment, Blucher. Specifically, what did you make of Stephens, Harriott and Cook today?

  • We dropped Alnwick and Hamer for that joke of a keeper ?

    WRONG

we played him because Alnwick was taken ill and Hamer is injured

The joke of a keeper who maybe should have done better with the goal and subsequently made 2-3 good saves and one brilliant save?. Yep that's him.
Averaging 4/10 from the early player marks from those present.
I wasn't there, but have spoken to someone who was.
  • How did the new keeper do ?

Did the new SL midfielder come on ?

Did Powell offer any post match comment about any / all of the missing players ?
  • What worries me is that Chrissy needs some results. It is all well and good players saying they are waiting to see what happens to Chrissy before they sign new contracts, but they should be killing themselves to get him the wins he needs. Not such an issue today although another zero goals doesn't help, but Tuesday was poor and another poor one next Tuesday and that could be it. This is where the characters should be coming out
  • Viewfinder - to answer your question: Stephens was ok but a little below before par, as he and Cousins never really got to grips with the game (without being dominated by Leadbitter and Whitehead - it was a scrappy old match); Cook was, I am afraid, lightweight; Harriott was quick and direct and offered a genuine threat (a view shared by the Boro supporters around us).
  • We are staying up :-)

The manager, and importantly the squad, MUST now believe this is the low point of our campaign. We have (hopefully) two crucial cup games to adopt a siege mentality. Two wins by attacking with a nothing-to-lose attitude might just give us the momentum to propel us away from the drop zone and save Powell's job. Make no mistake, this very much feels like make or break for our leader.

And Mr. Duchatelet, PLEASE get us a striker. I don't care if it's on loan or permanent. We need an injection up top, anything we can get.
  • Just come back from Middlesbrough. Nobody we will tell me that our keeper today was Powell's decision.
I am not talking about a 35 yard effort that was 'telegraphed', already it smells of outside influences. However, I am not going down the road of negative comments about the board as let us see who our manager is on opening day of next season couple with what players we have brought in.

I would agree with you, but as already argued, neither Hamer nor Alnwick were on the bench. Hamer was said to have a knock, and Alnwick an illness. We had our 5th choice goalkeeper on the bench. Powell may have been forced to play Thuram, but no-one was forcing him to leave both Hamer and Alnwick out completely.
  • Blackpool, Bolton and Yeovil for the drop.

    That'll do.
