Not at all surprised by the top 3, other than Ronnie they would be the quickest player on tour Thepchaiya could finish ahead of Ronnie come the end lf the season a very quick player.
  • Thirty seconds average shot time is a disgrace and there are a lot of players around that mark. When breakbuilding players should know what shot to play, most of the time, without even thinking.

    This is where I disagree,
Some players are naturally slow, if they headed into 35 to 40 seconds I would agree but 30 seconds IMO is fine especially if there is alot of safety play in these frames.

I should point out the AST as from this season is being looked at by Barry Hearn and I am not sure how often I think its quarterly but anyone over 30 seconds will get a letter regarding playing to slow.

Barry has done alot for the game but IMO this could be bad, as someone who loves snooker for me its not just about big breaks and watching a frame be over in 10 minutes, I love watching safety frames that last 30/45 minutes.

As I said before some players natural game is a bit slower, not everyone can see the shot as quickly as others and forcing them to speed up could cost them there match and earnings.

Would Peter Ebdon have won the World Championship if he was forced to speed up.

I agree , i get it in pool alot people taking 2 minutes a shot sometimes longer. Even worse when its a straight forward shot and your playing people who are supposed to be good players.

Yes, some people naturally will play slow. But its negative playing too slow, 30 seconds is ok but anymore is too much other than one offs or where they have a tricky decision.

I have played pool at national team event in Yarmouth and they use the clock. It's 60 seconds or it's a foul and they call out at 30 seconds. I have hardly ever not played my shot before the 30 second call - it's a lot longer than it sounds.
Not everyone can play as quick as O'Sullivan but some players deliberately play slowly to put the opponent off.
What annoys is me when it's obvious what shot to play and they look at every other possibility but end up playing the obvious shot.

Exactly, we have a rule that we can implement in our local league where 2 minutes per shot. Although that is far too long, as you say 30 seconds is plenty, there are a couple of pros who struggle with a 30 seconds clock (Liam Dunster specifically if you follow pool much) 1 time out per frame is normally good as your 1st visit after the break will take a bit longer to map out.

Do you still play pool? We have Central London Sunday , first season county for Kent Blackball so our team is a mixed bag. I played a couple of World rules comps Friday/ Saturday in Chatham only £5/£10, had a couple of pros/england level, dont really like world rules but will play odd one.
  • Yes I play in Croydon League. It is world rules, I haven't played blackball rules but from what I can gather they would suit me more as I don't like tactical games.
We have got a qualified for Yarmouth on 12 September in Crawley of all places. I've played at Yarmouth three times and we've managed to get to the last 16 twice. Last year one of our players won the national singles.

In the league if one team insists on playing on the clock then it has to be used. We don't normally bother but we played the team who won it the year before and they are painfully slow, so we put them on the clock and they couldn't handle it. We beat them 8-3.

Oh yes that rings a bell, shame as the league i play in doesnt enter for Yarmouth. A couple of my mates have been from playing out of Eltham.
I have only played a handful world rules, been playing blackball last few years and before was old EPA (i think). When i get 2 shots in WR i get so confused as i dont know what to do, i kind of do now but its not very natural as in BB you just develop your worst ball/ or blackball.

Starting a monday league in Maidstone World rules in October, hopefully shall improve my game. I was speaking to Toby bolt the weekend in the comp i played and he isnt really a world rules fan but he was saying how both should help the other. Eg. World Rules players who play blackball - someone said they are more clinical now as with BB you cant afford to miss, where you have the insurance with 2 on World rules (if that makes sense), the other way round i think my saftey game will improve the more i play WR as its more of a factor, seem to get in more tactical spots.

We should go for a game sometime Lawrie, just for a knockabout really not for anything worthwhile.

We have only done it a couple of times put people on clock from past experience before the match, dont really want to but when someone takes 5 minute a shot when there is only 1 shot you can play and an easy safety it gets a bit ridiculous.

PS- Good luck in September for the nationals, let me know how you get on.
  • WORLD 6 REDS CHAMPION IS KYREN WILSON

Kyren beat Ding 8-4 in the final
  • That is now back to back tournement sucess for Kyren who has now won 15 matches in a row.

He has also played 24 matches this season and won 22.

He is in form and with The Shanghai Masters around the corner he looks good value at 25/1

  • 6 reds, not a proper tournament im afraid. Not quite snooker shootout but completely different game. Well done Kryen, i imagine Shanghai will be tougher and surely Ronnie and co will start turning up soon.

6 reds is not a proper snooker Tournament!!! I know ROS hasn't assumed he would be back not looked at draws or really looked at it lately, a few players have been missing the early tournaments

Mind you, did you see what ROS said about pool? He said in golf terms comparing snooker to pool is like comparing The Open to crazy golf.

Yep i found it funny, even though i play pool used to play snooker (local level, won a couple of tournaments). Whatever Ronnie says i would either agree or see positive, i am a proper fan boy :)

  • I think he's right. I only play pool now because my eyesight is shot and because to play snooker to a standard I would enjoy I would have to play a few times a week.

Agreed Snooker is more glamorous, i can still play snooker but just get more bored with it... although i still get bored with pool just alot easier and more social. I stopped more because its in a league which teams were dropping out (called me up in the week to see if i wanted to play this season) get 1 frame and then 1 trebles (at one point was doubles), bit of a joke really. Snooker is going backwards, pool is on the up.

You make it sound like i should know this, you have said she was taken into hospital to give birth. Now you follow up with they are staying in so its safe to say something has happened. IF your going to post stuff put FACTS and be clear because you make me look silly,

edit- Misread your original post my bad, thought you meant he pulled out as gave birth, didn't realise that was a week before until i have just re-read it. Half apologise as still need to be clear
