Player's Championship 1/4 final tonight.  Selby v. O'Sullivan.  Thought would be a cracker as Ronnie unbeaten in 16 matches.  Final Score Mark Selby 6-0 Ronnie O'Sullivan!!  Fair to say Ronnie not at his best...
    "Ronnie not at his best"

Ignoring completely Selby was absolutely sublime tonight

Yes @paulie8290 Selby was fantastic and took full advantage of Ronnie’s poor safety and errors.  Back to his best.
  • Ronnie probably just wanted the match to end. Fair play to him. Selby gets on my tits.

And why would he want the match to end?

Surely as a professional sportsman he is there to win right?

If not why bother turning up?

Selby gets a lot of criticism for his play, but had an AST quicker than Ronnie last night, Selby was on absolute fire and punished every Ronnie mistake.

Maybe if Ronnie spent more time practicing and less time slagging other players off then he might not have made so many basic errors tonight(really hope John Astley enjoyed that match 😂😂)

lol shock Paulie somehow returns after a Ronnie battering by Selby....

Ronnie was due an off day, i missed the first frame but a combination of him not really being on it/ caring and Selby playing well. Shame normally one of the matches i look forward to most, big result from Selby maybe he'll kick on from this.

Still unbelievable season so far from Ronnie, titles wise even though he hasn't played his top form to win a couple of them, Trump is also having a great season so far.

On a seperate note i did the Masters as per, also went to Berlin Masters which was amazing in terms of the Arena, Trump in the semis. Will be going to Manchester the first week in April too.
  • So todays matches on ITV4
1pm - Mark Allen v Zhang Anda QF
    7pm - Allen v Carter (Semi1)
tomorrow- Selby v winner of QF

Even though its hard to see Ronnie bashed, i'd like Selby to win this weekend. Finding a bit of form not long before the Crucible could be dangerous.

People have been talking a lot about Ronnie 8, 8, 8 (UK/ Masters, Potentially Worlds) All in one season, although i am pessimistic as i can't see how Ronnie could do 2 and a half weeks where hes off days wont get punished, it remains to be seen and it would be a remarkable achievement but i am not getting head of myself, Trumps the man to beat, Allen is looking good in spells. Selby could be back which is very dangerous, Robbo/ Brecel sort of finding a bit of form, only last couple but it could be a decent Worlds.

Re: Ronnie on Astley, another step too far and was way out of line, although there is an element of truth its still shocking to call out a fellow pro and overstepped for me. I try not to listen to much of what he says off the table as i think its an act and half the time he's taking the piss/ don't care. His documentary is very good if anyone has had a chance to watch it? helps you understand his battle a bit, i know he definitely picks and chooses where he plays the mental card, missing events but its been working with his results so again i am not going to criticise.

Its more the Ronnie fans on here that come out and say Ronnie didn't want it every time he loses it.

When he wins a match-he is best player in the world and unstoppable

When he loses a match-he didn't want to win anyway

Never any credit given to how well his opponents played.

Selby completely outplayed Ronnie in every aspect yesterday, safety, positioning, even AST

Yet still its Ronnie didn't want to be there, Selby is boring

And you wonder why I stopped writting 😂😂
  • Snooker going to Saudi now as well. The purists won't like this though:

"The invitational event will take place between March 4-6 in Riyadh at the Boulevard Arena; a new 23rd ball known as "Riyadh Season ball" will be introduced and will be worth 20 points".
who recalls Fred Davis years ago introducing 'snooker plus' .. another coloured ball was added to the table between the blue and the pink IF I remember

EDIT shows what I remember, the Davis amendment added 2 balls to the table .. 1959 News of the World Snooker Plus Tournament - Wikipedia
My Dad told me about this. Like you, he remembered it as one extra ball, the purple.

When they have the big tournament in Saudi with £2m on offer in prize money.  There will be an extra golden ball worth 20 points for anyone who gets a 147 - meaning they could get to 167!  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/68027678

remember when ITV did a snooker programme and they brought in a black and yellow ball that was worth 10 points ? Think Jimmy White nicknamed it The Wasp

  • just switched on the final. Allen v Zhang 5 all.

big moment for Zhang Anda after beating Selby (who did nearly make a great comeback.) in the semi final as Allen is still not playing great.

@johnnybev1987 mate(I believe someone he used to play pool with? Although i may be remembering that wrong I'm sure he can correct me on how he knows him) Josh Thomond is 1 game away from being a professional player for the 1st time in his career

Masters is on at the moment. Trump inevitably through 6-1 against Hawkins.

Saw a good match involving Neil Robertson v Higgins after O'Sullivan pulled out last minute. Apparently exhausting himself by playing lucrative exhibition matches in the far and middle east.

Williams who was on oxygen whilst playing in the far east was very unlucky back in London to lose yesterday v Ding.

Later you have Allen v Si jiahui

Just been watching Luca Brecel v. Chris Wakelin...before turning over for the Arsenal - Spurs game.  Luca Brecel just potted a brown along the cushion at full power...one of the best shots I've ever seen!

He's just potted an equally good Black to go 2. 1 up.
    Great game

Shaun Murphy (147 in the semi) is the Masters champion and Rob Walker somehow managed to not hit someone in the face with that microphone of his.

Cocky runner up Kyron Wilson is set to go for the Berlin masters. Got a feeling he might win it. Seems very confident in his game.

Thoroughly enjoyed the final.  Murphy’s cueing has drastically improved and was the best player in the tournament.  Thought Wilson didn’t take it well…

Superb final and Murphy deserved winner. Fair play to Wilson to be so graceful in defeat. Big gap in losing and winning prize money wise. Yes we would all love it for a weeks work but 140k to loser and 350k to the winner.,
  • I really enjoyed the whole tournament and thought it was vastly improved by not having O'Sullivan and all the noise that comes with him involved.

Murphy was well worth the win over the whole week.

After snookering himself on the yellow and missing out on a potential 147, to go on and actually score one takes some doing. Looked in excellent form and a deserving winner. Wilson is the world champion and beat the world #1 to get to the final and then nearly managed to pull back a 4 frame deficit so fair play to both of them.

Been enjoying the UK championship as always.
Ronnie lost yesterday to a very nice Chinese chap called Zhou. First time he's beaten O'Sullivan in I think 7 attempts. Think for Ronnie this self imposed semi retirement is not helping him when he does bother to play.
Wilson lost yesterday as well, like Trump recently, struggling with his cue. Though I think for Kyron he is also having a lot of problems away from the table.

Talking of Trump he's playing right now against Si Jiahui.

Selby meanwhile looks very good yesterday and is also in action tonight against Zhou.

I've been a bit of a snooker hiatus this year, i've watched bits but not as much as i normally do. I missed ROS match, although Zhou has always been danger so no shame there. We might be in the territory of will he get another big one, but i still think he has it in him. Last year he got to the semis without playing well, this year he's picked up his performance but still not playing too much. I think he needs to do it sooner rather if he is going to get number 8

Strange season, lots of new winners. More 147's than ever, this tournament the chinese seem to have flooded a bit and making more ground than ever! I love Wu Yize, amazing potter and early last year i said to my mate he will win a worlds. At the time think he was outside the top 64 and he's recently won a ranking event, the manner he won the International Championship too.

I'll still keep an eye on results, busy weekend otherwise i would probably watch a bit more.

Trump v Robertson in the semi final tomorrow.

Trump I felt was lucky in the sense that Ding missed some easy pots but with his old cue he's gone back to  near his usual self.

Pang Junxu came back brilliantly against Robertson but Neil got himself over the line. Made hard work of it though.

Have to say Stephen Hendry is rubbish as a co commentator. Maybe it's just me but he has no self awareness and only comes up with "nice shot" or "should of done better there". Great analysis.
