Well they haven't nicked Diego Poyet. He's the real deal, but maybe because of illness and injury the big boys kept their grubby hands off him, and he's on a pro contract now. Fingers crossed we can hold on to Gomez for another year or so until we get him on a contract.
So if we had a kid from 12-16 and he was poached, we'd receive £100K is that right? Even though he'd only had 5 max hours of training a week for 4 years?

Give or take a few quid...
We would get more money when/if he makes his first team debut and then more after every ten/twenty/thirty games etc.
Although disappointing I hope we can keep the core of the squads which have done so well in the FA Youth Cup over the past two seasons.I agree that we should develop our own talent.I hope we can upgrade to L1 status.
As an aside has anyone else noticed that we seem to have a liking for ex Spurs Academy Players.Currently we have Button,Dervite,Gower,Jackson and Obika and a couple of seasons ago we also had Dean Parrett. That number compares almost with how many first teamers come through our own academy and probably is more than Tottenham have in their own first team squad.
Is there also a role for us to develop players who don't make it at the larger London clubs but might still have great potential at 21 22 ? This summer I understand that the much Mentioned John Bostock will be released by Tottenham and another name who was highly rated in Youth football Sidcup based Conor Henderson is leaving Arsenal.
I suspect neither of those two would have come to the Valley as teenagers, but now their big club has released them would it be worth trying to sign players like this to see if they live up to their earlier potential as well as running our own academy?
Are we trying to get one or is the budget needed just too high? Am i right in thinking Palace have one?
Category one academy must have 18 full time staff and an operational budget of £2.5 million a season. Seems pretty expensive for me
I heard that we are moving towards this in order to recruit the best. But you cannot afford to fail in your application as you cannot then re apply for a couple of years.
This might only be part of the story but makes sense that as the club moves onwards and upwards that we look to attract and keep the best talent
I don't really blame the kid, he needs to make the decision that he thinks suits him best. No-one would be questioning the club's loyalty if they felt he weren't good enough and released him so I don't really see why it should be any different the other way around.
The system itself is pretty screwed up though, the big clubs have managed to maneuvre themselves into a position where not only do they receive revenues tens of times higher than a clubs like us each year, they don't need to spend any of it poaching our best youngsters. Football League representatives may have voted for this but seeing as we're living off the scraps of the Premier League money anyway then it's not like they could have really put up any meaningful opposition.
You win some you lose some. The vast majority of the players going through all youth systems don't make it, or end up at a much lower level.
Indeed, it is an entirely serious question for smaller clubs to wonder why they bother having a youth academy. Find someone good, and a large club will poach them. And in the meantime the PL clubs will release far better youngsters than the ones you produce. For example, Arsenal churn out loads of players who don't make the grade there, but are excellent at a slightly lower level. Jerome Thomas for 100k for example.
The club may boast about Haynes, Wilson, and Green coming through our academy, but as we released them for nothing, and then bought them for a fee, they're no different (as far as the club's finances are concerned) to any other player bought by the club.
This will continue to be a big problem to us, because we are investing in our Academy quite heavily. I would like to think we can find a way to combat it, but don't expect any help from the FA.

But not heavily enough it seems as we didn't get the Cat 1 status we need to be able to fight off the likes of Chelsea.
. John Bostock at palace is a perfect example of how a move to a bigger club at a young age driven by money can ruin your football career.
You can turn that around and say Bostock was not that good anyway and made more money than he should have out of his talent and maximised his earnings by jumping ship to earn money at spurs

Ok then you turn it back the other way he could have stayed at palace continuing his promising start in the first team, got more games at a first team level in the championship learning his trade. That might have taken him onto a better career instead of wasting all those years at tottenham getting no first team action.
Ironically he did it against Chelski. Such a brave boy, he tried to come back on. Took about 4 steps and then collapsed. Only later did we find out he had fractured his knee!!
Appreciate that everyone is upset/angry to lose someone with talent. My son knows Kasey and we were shocked to find out today that he has had to close his twitter account after receiving hate mail including death threats. There is more to him moving than has come to light, hopefully in the future it will, but death threats? Can this be justified?

Death threats to a kid? For signing for someone else? Can't say I'm happy he's left us for Chelsea if he's a prospect like some say he is but that is just sickening.
There really are some cowardly shitbags out there.

Any one know where he has gone ?
@Uncle might know
Comparison with Bertrand is incorrect, he moved for a fee of about £100k plus add ons.

But maybe a young kid would get pretty freaked out by it though.
