If you're 15 or 16 and get told you will get £1000 per week it must seem like you've won the lottery. Knowing Chelski it will be at least that, plus a few other sweetners. Not making it at Chelski won't worry him either, because at that age young players feel certain they'll make it. Chelsea supporters will argue 'of course the lad will want to go to a better club', not true, it is about the money.
Ridiculous, how is this allowed ? Is Palmer from SE London/NW Kent ? If so I thought there were restrictions on poaching youngsters from another teams catchment area ?
Already got a reply from the Chelsea FM researcher:
He did [play for Chelsea u18s today], I'm watching the 90 minutes coverage right now actually, he just got subbed. Was news to me until about 2 hours ago, I'm told he's signed but have no confirmation on that yet.
If he has signed I expect it's a future pro deal to kick in when he turns 17; will furnish you with the exact details should it emerge that he has indeed joined us.
Thought he was terrific in the youth cup tie myself as well.

Unless the rules have changed a club can only sign players who are 9-12 within catchment area of 60 minutes drive from the club, aged 13 and older the catchment area goes up to 90 minutes drive.
I am really pissed off about this. The playing field is becoming less level as years go by.I would like to know who is advising him,a decision driven by money.

Even in London ? That might work out in the sticks but here there could be five or six clubs within 60 mins drive !

No they are not welcome to him. The kid was way above anyone on that pitch against Chelsea back in january, and IMO better than Bowyer and Shelvey at that age.
Definitely gone to Chelsea. His old man is very savvy and has been managing the various offers etc. Chelsea have offered him a pro contract after his three yr youth contract expires. Set for life basically. Looks like we wil keep Joe Gomez though who is also considered to be a great prospect.

Bad news.
But if the kid does not want to play for charlton athletic then fine bugger off. Don't care if you are the next pele.
As far as i am concerned if he doesnt want to play for Charlton he can clear off. Take a look at any past schoolboy team from England, not many play for league clubs today once they get affiliated with the likes of the big boys. Just hope he doesnt come begging on our door once he's a 19 year old has been.
