Factually incorrect, but don't let that worry you.
  • Oh I won't .
  • Before our last run of four games, we picked up nine points in three games. Have any sort of run like that again and we will be absolutely fine.

In fact, a couple of back to back wins in the last third of the season will do. I repeat, we will be absolutely fine. :-)

A voice of sanity at last. Spot on.
  • Hulse scored a cracker today as well for Millwall :-(

I daren't go on there. I'd be frightened of what I'd see. :-)
That made me laugh out loud.

  • Leaving the goal to one side, I only remember Hamer making one save today. Cort and Stephens made goal line blocks in the first half. Cort's was spectacular. Hamer is a decent keeper at this level. Neither the best nor the worst in this division. If CP thinks Button is the better option he will play.

Today's performance needed to be 100%. It wasnt and we lost. We move on. If we get everyone firing on all cylinders on Tuesday it is perfectly possible we will win. What worries me is our relegation form at home. After the season we have had who is confident we will get 3 points from our next three home games? Not me I'm afraid.

But I do expect some pleasant "surprises" in our up coming away games and expect us to be safe. If we need to beat Bristol City on the last day.....doesn't bear thinking about.

  • We are only 6 points or two wins from a playoff spot so two wins and ar are right back in the hunt no worries.Out of interest did any body that saw the game think that hull is premier league material?
We've lost away to a top team - according to this site our chances of relegation have increased by 2%... Thats all!
Question is whether the squad hold it together and squeeze a win out this month?

10 points off the playoffs if you add on the other 4 your missing.

  • Only a few marks on the other thread so far but seems as if Wilson has had another poor game, thats quite a few in a row now, think its time for him to make way for a couple of games. I would actually prefer to see him in the middle in a 5 man midfield with Prich and Stephens.
  • im all for a plan B --- just not sure what plan A is ?

Yup, have to agree again, VG ( "son")

Was there today and we were under the cosh from the start with the Tiggers playing some good passing football & looking like a 2nd in the league team.

However, we worked hard and got ourselves back into the game only to find ourselves a goal down following a poor effort to do the necessary from Hamer. Pity but sh*t happens...usually to us.

Thought we gave them a run for their money in the 2nd half but once again didn't take the few chances we created. As always, I say it how I see it ( little idea of whether we're playing 442 or whether we've changed it round during the game) and once more, I felt our midfield lacked some punch. Pritch has always been a favourite of mine and I've commented recently that Stephens is sorely missed when he's out of the line up, but today, neither did enough IMHO. JJ worked very hard again and I can't see SCP leaving him out as long as he's fit - all credit to the captain. Solly was his usual immaculate self both defending & coming forward but Ceddy disappointed me and I wonder whether we might see Wiggy back on Tuesday. Ric wasn't allowed to do what he does best today and his substitution was probably a good call. Yann worked really hard and won lots of balls in the air but Hull were very sharp most of the time & were often able to stifle what could have developed into a decent move. Another off day for Wilson - maybe time for a change there too.

Spoke to Waggy's Dad at halftime and he was obviously disappointed that his son wasn't given anothet chance to show what he can do - I had to agree with him as we seemd to have little in the way of width and would not be surprised to see him back in the starting 11 at Leicester.

All in all, a decent performance against one of the division's top teams - we kept them to a single goal and with one decent finish of our own would have nicked a point. Can't grumble at that but I did feel flat at the end of the game ...felt something was missing today ; we need something or someone to give us a lift . The massive, Palarse, Brum and now Hull. What's the common denominator ? A fresh face or faces brought in during the January window & hence more competition for places AND new players to give the existing squad /manager different options. As others have rightly pointed out, not one of these teams has beaten us by more than a single goal but maybe that's what makes the results more frustrating.

Don't know how, but this set of lads need to dig deeper than ever in the forthcoming matches otherwise we, the fans will become increasingly nervous of our position and this will inevitably transfer onto the pitch. And we need to really get behind them ( thought the away end was pretty quiet today ) and keep the noise level high from start to finish...think Sheff Utd when Yann made his debut. We have to be that 12th man and make a difference - think Middlesbrough . If WE believe , and show it, then that extra soupcon (?) of confidence will creep back into the lads and who knows ......

More than ever, KEEP THE FAITH !!!

Thanks Jean a long way to go and return with nothing. The board need to allow another name or tow to come in just to give a boost. Still expect us to be in this division next season, but the barometer is moving towards hope.
  • We are far too good to go down. This bad run is the result of the ludicrous decision by Powell to not change things after 70 mins against Sheff Weds. Had we won that we'd have won four in a row and confidence would have been sky high going into the Palace game. 451 is what works best for us, but we need the work rate of both Pritchard and Waggy in the midfield. Fuller and Kermy are too similar to play together and neither has great pace. One needs to start, with the other coming on to replace the other after 65/70 minutes.
  • Was at the game and would find it difficult to sum it up better than Fanny. It's not that we were bad, we just missed someone to really impose themselves and pull the team together. Midfield was busy yet ineffective.
Have to say Evina in the first 15mins, imo, was shocking but got better. Wilson needs to grow some balls, how often does he dodge making a crunching tackle usually? I know he's not a warrior type but feck me, get stuck in lad.
We weren't disgraced but that doesn't alter the fact we came away with nothing. Still have enough faith to believe we won't be in the bottom three come May.
Think we as a group of fans need to make more noise, very muted I thought and no VFR til the second half. What's that about!?!
  • Fuller and Kermy are too similar to play together and neither has great pace. One needs to start, with the other coming on to replace the other after 65/70 minutes.

Fuller and Kermorgant looked pretty good at Watford but I take your point. Thing is, if we're winning narrowly, Kermorgant gets left on because of his aerial ability defensively. We are always looking to hold what we have rather than look to extend the lead. I'm not knocking the manager because I'd probably feel as nervous as him about it!

Hull are a good team as are Crystal Palace (look what they did to Boro yesterday). A point at each would have been good but in the end we were beaten by the odd goal. Whatever formation we play, we haven't got many goals at the moment in this team, so we need to keep some clean sheets. Whether we stay up or not will be determined by whether we can improve our home form.

  • great commitment from the lads again nothing wrong with that, but at this level up the chances we are creating have to be taken because mistakes will be punished as we have seen . still cant understand waggy not playing has played well in all the games since his return and he must wonder what hes got to do.
  • We have a squad that is mid table Championship at very best. To last season's squad we have added Wilson and Fuller who have turned into squad regulars. Basically we have the same players at our disposal as we did last year. In my opinion our league position represents the quality of the players at Powell's disposal.
We have just lost to the team who are second and spent, I believe, around 4 or 5 million in the summer. We sit among a host of clubs who have better players, more money and more experienced managers. Do we really think we should be flying miles higher than Wolves or Bolton, Blackpool or Forest?
Look back at the threads and posts pre season. 'Consolidation' we said. 'Let's just survive' we said. 'Mid table will be a success' we said.
We have had some excellent results and some disappointing ones. That inconsistency is not only afflicting us but half the teams in the division.
We should be safe. It will not be a smooth journey but we need to hang in there, support the manager and the team and accept that, despite our relatively low position, the aim of this season is surely survival and the hope of investment in the squad in the summer.

This...... because this is the reality, with the lack of investment or anything else Chris has received to survive in this division will be an achievement
  • No width,no real pace or urgency (until last fifteen mins)...no points and no WAGGY!.....what does he have to do?????

Agree completely. Even if we survive by the skin of our teeth this year as seems likely, it will be a significant achievement. However, I fear we will need some reassurance about Investment/ambition if 17% to 30% rises in season ticket prices are to appear attractive. Another struggle next year would test the patience (and yes I do feel better that I have for the last seven years!)

Wiggins back in, Haynes to start. Other than that I can't see how to change it.

This. Game over as soon as Hamer flapped away. Surely time for Button in goal. Our fans need to take off the rose tinted glasses and see constant tinkering does not work.
Don't tinker with but change the keeper? Right.
  • Great post from Fanny. Feeling a bit more positive after reading that and other balanced posts on this thread.

Can't help feeling disappointed though, with CPs after match comments, which I've only just read. It gives the impression that we were better than we really were yesterday. Does he really believe that, or just putting a brave face on things? Just for once, I would like him to come out after a lacklustre performance and say we just were not good enough, that he is upset, that the lads will have to step up - anything that actually sounds like how we feel.

His rather strange reference to us being an inexperienced team was odd too. Inexperienced? With Cort, JJ, Fuller, Kermo, Morro? Hardly!

Unless we can finish with a bang on the pitch which unfortunately I feel unlikely, I think the price increases are going to have a detrimental effect on season ticket sales. Those of us that have season tickets and fall into the die hard category will pay up but I fear that there will be a lot of "floating" season ticket holders who have the ticket mainly for convenience will think long and hard. I realise its probably still pretty good value but times are hard and priorities can change. Without as Sillybilly says a suggestion that things will happen to strengthen the squad in the summer I think our season ticket sales might fall dramatically.

  • Yep another top post from Fanny and well done for going all the way to Hull and back!
  • Staying up = good season. Mid table = great season. Anything more = CP manager of the year.

CP was the right man to take us up, and if we went down he would be the right man to take us up again. Clubs, including ours, have shown in the past that sticking with a manager is the best thing in the long term. Especially when you have a good one, which we do.

We are all in it together and our job is to support our manager and our players through thick and thin. This does not mean that you cannot pull anyone up if they do not give 100% or make poor decisions.

All said and done, I would rather have CP than just another journey man manager doing the rounds. Mainly because it does of course mean he has failed at several clubs already! They would also not understand our club and our history.

We should be singing his name at every game whatever. The owners need to know we do not want a changeof manager, just a couple of new players to freshen things up.

  • Agree Redrobo

It's good to see the majority of people are staying level headed and want Powell to stay for a long time.

Thought it would be slit your wrist time on CL but that's not the case.
