  • does any one know what season ticket sales are presently ?I have just had a bloke from the club call me in beseeching terms inviting me to renew .He sounded worryingly desperate but I hope that is because he is on a commission based arrangement rather than due to a generalized club related concern .Any how his call provided a useful platform to tell a few home truths but whether or not the powers that be reflect on them is up to them .
  • I'd very much doubt they are on commission and irrespective of sales doesn't it make good business sense to encourage customers to do business with you?
  • Yes but you can hardly base n assessment of Fox on one game and his first senior one at that too.

And on the first game back in pre season, on a scorching hot day.

Isn't Holmes-Dennis a left back? Although I'm definitely not expecting any first team appearances from him for another 2-3 years.
  • Think most of you are over reacting, it would have been nice to keep Ceddy but he is only a back up. The club have a wages budget and they offered him what they thought fair, he said no and his agent tried to renegotiate, we got fed up and withdrew the offer. If we need cover we can probably pick it up cheaper or short term when required. The extra he wanted is better used elsewhere in my opinion.
  • Previous post typed on my rubbish phone, so I doubt it makes any sense (no change from normal rubbish I post).
  • In other words Evina, fcuk off

    Stay classy...

He's entitled to negotiate a new contract and both parties are entitled to withdraw from discussions.

My guess here is that he has one or two vagueish offers that were about the same as we offered. He wanted a tad more - hardly crime of the century - the club have said that they won't/can't improve their offer so he's off.

If he's unemployed come August/September time then he'll have made a mistake, we shall see...

  • Evina is leaving for first team football, can anyone blame him? He is a very talented footballer who imo would walk in to alot of championship teams, it is just unfortunate for him that we have one of the best left backs in the league ahead of him

indeed it does make sense ..as long as you don't sound desperate .

    Agree totally.

Sounds like he's leaving because he wanted more money, again completely his prerogative but let's be honest about it.
  • I read it as he wants to play first team football and under a contract duration and wage commensurate to that level. Nothing wrong with that apart from we can't give it to him. So shake hands pat on the back good luck and we move on.
  • Interesting phrase 'withdrawn offer'. Presumably if that's the case we won't be eligible for a development fee now?
  • Offer withdrawn as we're being taken over by the multi multi multi trillionaire Russians who have Baines lined up.

    Night all.
  • Interesting phrase 'withdrawn offer'. Presumably if that's the case we won't be eligible for a development fee now?

only if the first offer was of the same terms maybe we would? But fairly certain it wasn't anyway
  • Bearing in mind the luke warm reports of Morgan Fox as cover at Welling, Archie Edwards is 16 tomorrow. Is he too young to step up?

well he's out with the squad in Spain so CP and 1st team coaches must think more of him than your "lukewarm reports' suggest
  • Did Cedric Evina cause all those pitiful home defeats last season? Of course not - he wasn't even there. We lost all of of those games because of a weak midfield - Stephens and Pritchard were casually by-passed and out-muscled by Burnley, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Millwall. and the rest - and we were completely taken apart by Derby and Forest. Cedric Evina? We need a tough guy in midfield - and a clever and instinctive striker to be Yann's partner up front.

Don't forget another left back, Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, one of the best of the lot from the bits I've seen. Already agreed a pro deal as well.
  • Time to declare an interest I think. I have met Morgan Fox a couple of time at social/family events (he is the cousin of the godmother of one of my kids - FACT). I've also chatted to his dad. First thing to note is that Morgan is a thoroughly nice bloke with his feet firmly on the ground. His dad also told me that a few years ago the club weren't sure if he was going to ever make it beyond League 2/1 level but since then he has come on leaps and bounds and is now seen by the club as someone with a real future who could play at Championship level. There was a degree of frustration (from his dad, rather than Morgan) that he had not had more first team experience especially at the end of the season but I think he is willing to be patient and they both recognise that Powell is a great person for him to learn his trade from. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Morgan's potential has played a part in the decision to withdraw Evina's offer, but time will tell.

  • Sad to see him go. Obviously SCP had doubts early on and moved Solly over to cover; but I thought he grew into the role and was effective. With Waggy gone we are short of cover on the left.

He is not gone until someone signs him so who knows. I wish him luck.
  • I've seen Fox several times now and he strikes me as a no-frills sensible left back. Good left peg and delivery. Nice touch too. Seems happy enough to get forward. A Mark Reid type of player.

Perhaps that might be the reason why Evina was only offered a one year deal rather than anything longer. Maybe this coming season might be a bit too soon for him, but in a season's time he could step up.

If Fox is good, then let him be back up. If Wiggins can't play, give him a go.
Look how Harriot started when given a chance and even look how well Evina did when finally given a chance.

I have been very impressed with Morgan Fox in the games I have seen him play at Youth level and for the U21's .I thought he was the best player in the Spurs Youth Cup game the season before last.

I liked Ceddy and think trying to retain him on a one year deal was prudent but I also accept we can't keep everyone and this is the season that he should be a regular not just another promising youngster.

Morgan also needs to be making some appearances at first team level and Ceddy's presence made this less likely. It was a shame that Fox was not on the bench against Bristol City as he would have been the perfect replacement for Rhoys Wiggins when he pulled up injured.I would also like him to get a short term loan somewhere like Colchester,Dagenham,Orient or Southend in League 1/2 ( I think he is an Essex boy ) so SCP can assess whether he will make it.

As for Edwards and Holmes-Dennis lets not get ahead of ourselves but its nice to know that we have two more quality left backs coming through the production line.
  • Seen Fox several times. A very good player, especially on the ball. Also very strong in the air and good going forward.

However, I am a little unsure about his defensive prowess, particularly when put in a one on one situation. Have to say this was in evidence again on Saturday (also shown on Wings TV highlights), when he tried to screen out a ball on the sideline, but allowed the Wings winger to get around him to take the ball then cut across him and cross from the bye line. A simple safety first concede the throw in, there was all that was needed.

This is not an isolated occurence and have seen him skinned on a few occasions for the u21's last season. If this facet of his game can be improved upon then we have the complete player. Not yet the real deal and I agree with someone earlier that from initial viewing Holmes-Dennis is more likely to be "the real deal".

Agree - but isn't this simply lack of experience and one of the reasons he needs to see some first team action (maybe against Oxford as a starter)?
  • It's fairly obvious that Fox will be understudy to Wiggins this season so I presume a much heavier first team squad involvement than ever before. SCP was a great left back and no one better to iron out any wrinkles in Callum's game.

Charlton have moved to dispute claims that a deal for Cedric Evina has been taken off the table – with Manager Chris Powell still keen to keep the defender at the club.

The young left-back, whose contract expired on July 1st, featured for the Addicks in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer at Welling United on Saturday.

But he failed to report to the airport on Sunday ahead of the club’s week-long training camp to Spain after negotiations between the two parties broke down.

Despite reports to the contrary, Evina has since been training with the club’s U21s at the club’s Sparrows Lane training complex and Powell has not given up hope of resolving the issue.

Speaking from the club’s base in Marbella, Powell said: “It’s an issue that has been ongoing for a long time and should have been something that was resolved as soon as the season ended.

“We got very close last week and right at the last minute they changed it again. Ceddy is well within his rights to turn it down and his Dubai-based agent has advised him not to sign.”

The boss added: “There has been a lot of toing and froing but Ceddy has come back this summer and trained really well. His testing has been good and he played at Welling.

“I’ve told him how much I want him to stay. He’s had two years here and he’s a young man who has got the ingredients to be a good left-back. He’s starting to show that. He hasn’t really had a career yet and I want him to have that here.

“I work with him every day, along with my coaching staff and my players, and he’s a character that fits in really well with us.”

Evina, who has made 23 appearances for the club in his two seasons at The Valley, had been named within the squad list scheduled to fly to Spain.

“On Saturday I spent a lot of time on the phone with him after the Welling game and he finally agreed to come,” continued Powell.

“It was always in our plans that he would travel to Spain, and he was named in the squad to travel, but he didn’t turn up at the airport.

“He’s since been training with the U21s. He’s not training on his own, as was incorrectly reported, and has been told to report in and train with the guys that are there.

“So he’s training with the club and I for one am still hopeful it can be resolved.”
  • I wonder why he didn't turn up. Quite surprised at how much SCP has said there to be honest.
