  • Agree Len, these moronic actions should be universally condemned and that hasn't happened. I wonder why.
  • Ha! I stand by the sentiment of what i said i just worded it wrong. ;-) No one is saying it was a good thing or should happen is what i should have said.

I completely understand where you were coming from. I'm still taking this as a win though!

CAST are on London Tonight later, along with Ken Livingstone and everyone who was there on Saturday to make a heartfelt and tear filled apology.

We will then take the mic one at a time to cite our individual condemnation and express "what the events meant to us" before collectively re- enacting the horrors through the medium of dance.

There is also going to be a minutes silence before the Brum game. (may be amended to applause in case yobs ruin it)

  • I was there with my Dad and step Mum , I took my kids as I am allowed to see them every other weekend . They'd been bunking school the last few days so had to get them doing something . They were fine with all the swearing , joined in with most of it even the 4 year old and they loved the flares/smoke . Oldest is taking smoke bombs into school today if he ever gets up . My step Mum has still got a wing mirror to a Ford Kia 2008 if anyone wants one ? Got home about 11pm after being down the local just in time for the kids to watch channel 4... great day out , we all can't wait for Millwall

Fair enough DRF, condone is prob a bad choice of word in that case.

    STOP PRESS

Is this the first time in any Charlton Life discussion where one person has changed their mind due to the posting of another?

I think he just used the wrong word. Must try harder RCT.
  • Bolton Away (FA Cup Qtr Final) in 2000.

This game saw a huge (by our standards) risk element attached to our support. There was lots of trouble (and I mean actual trouble, not stupid vandalism) both at the train station and coach park.

Did this mean that this scenario became a regular feature at future Charlton away games? No - it was a one off, just like Millwall and Palace are one off's. We are all in the same division for the first time in what, 16 years??!! It was always going to be this way.

Palace in 2005 in the Prem (Dennis in the last min) - We sold a pathetic amount of tickets - seats were smashed up just like Sat. Did this then become a regular feature of Charlton aways? No!!

Every club in this Country pull a support different to their normal support for certain games. Fort a lot of clubs this is a regular feature, for us it probably equated to 10-20 times a decade.

It just shows how far football has changed (for the better or worse depends on your outlook) that the game on Sat where there was actually no football violence has got this response.

And the suggestion that the risk element at Charlton only go to certain games is wrong. They are at all home games and do a fair few aways, but games like Palace, Millwall, big one off league/cup games, can sometimes pull the different groups together, so it may appear they are not usually there, but they are, just in smaller groups doing their own things.

Summing up - nothing is different really to how it has always been in my opinion.

    Spot on this. Good post.

You can dismiss me as an Old Fart but you lot who think that smashing cars, toilets and throwing seats and flares in crowds is wonderful

Could you please point me in the direction of a post from anyone on this forum claiming this.

Quite a few people on this site have said that the use of flares is wonderful and creates atmosphere. The number of posts are too numerous to mention. I find it very worrying that people are condoning such illegal acts. They must lead very boring lives if they need a bit of smoke and flame to liven up their afternoon.

I've seen a few people comment that the flares are a good thing but i've yet to see anyone post that throwing them in a crowd is wonderful (which is what Len Glover posted).

Flares have been around for years on the continent and have never done any harm, so i personally don't see why people are getting so worked up about them.

But NOBODY has said that throwing them is wonderful.
  • How many times does it have to be said - they're illegal! The nightclub fire in Brazil recently was started by a flare - they're not so harmless as people seem to think.

ME14, Len - I'd give it up lads as you are fighting a losing battle. All it does is drive people like you and I from bothering to go to away games so a few can have their 'fun'. As normal the minority spoil it for the majority.

  • Large A - I will leave it now, I'm a woman by the way!. If they continue with their 'fun' hopefully they will be dealt with by the authorities
  • How many times does it have to be said - they're illegal! The nightclub fire in Brazil recently was started by a flare let off inside an enclosed space with a low ceiling that was full of inflamable materials. There were minimal potential exit routes and the doors were locked - they're not so harmless as people seem to think.

  • How very adult to amend someone else's post.
  • Give up ME14.

You're boring and it's not even like you've got a valid point if you can't see the difference between a football ground and tightly packed nightclub.
  • I'd just say nothing more ME14addick, your head must be killing from all the banging on the proverbial wall. Some people will never accept your point of view and some will seek it to find reason to ridicule.

Shame but thass just the way it is.
  • This thread has enlightened me to the fact that Charlton and Charlton Life have far more brain dead morons than I had ever imagined.

You can't seriously be comparing the lighting of a smoke flare indoors to outside at a football match.

People die each year from firework injuries but i'm not about to let any off in my front room.

Is it a minority? I think most enjoy the flairs and enjoy the atmosphere we've been creating compared to the quiet atmosphere we're accustomed to. There are also lots of people who are really enjoying the improved atmosphere and are not overly bothered about the flairs or smoke bombs

It seems a minority of people are getting overly worked up over the flair/smoke bomb saga and have turned to calling our own fans 'thugs, scum, yobs' etc.

Perhaps we should segregate our away fans into two groups, one for fans who like atmopshere and one for fans who would prefer to sit down and watch the game quietly
