  • It's ok the club received numerous calls today asking for action from our own fans
  • well if you believe some Labour twonk you jump and down to distract the naughty boys or if you believe "call me Dave" you give em a hug.
  • Everyone who doesn't want any edge at games should feck off to Fulham.

Everyone who does should feck of to Millwall.

Anyone in the middle just feck off.
  • There's always trouble at local derbies always has been always will be, doesn't make it right but it happens all over the country
  • I think the quality of replies so far sums up the problem.
No alternative suggestions, just a load of "what's the problem ? "
  • would be interested to know what the plans are for birmingham saturday
  • None why would there be

It's just another game we have no gripe with bham none what so ever It was palace and millwall

I agree SHG, just the type of person we need to worry about with that sort of thinking.

  • oh and i thought birmingham had a hooligan element potentially
  • Alternative solution - weed people out who smash up the ground and give them banning orders, control the crowd in a sensible way to avoid flashpoints, deal with problems before they get out of hand to isolate the main offenders.

Oh, hang on, the first point is already done and I'm sure a lot of the seat smashers/wing mirror knockers will face consequences, the latter two could be done by the police with more sensible planning and communication instead of the complete balls up they made on Saturday (actually what am I saying, it can't be in any way the police's fault, they can't win whatever they do, poor souls, etc)

Or there's your solution, stop hundreds if not thousands of innocent people getting tickets to avoid trouble... although your plan may not work anyway, as who's to say the mugs who chuck stuff off the Covered End Upper every now and again aren't season ticket holders? Or people who get in fights with stewards/other Charlton fans at the Valley aren't? Maybe season ticket holders are a cross section of society from all backgrounds and mentalities and not just all law abiding citizens? (oh hang on, that's impossible as someone who smashed a seat at Selhurst can't also be a fan can they)

Ridiculous knee jerk suggestion, not a million miles away from the logic of suggesting enforcing ID cards for all football fans (as if you've nothing to hide you won't mind will you??)

There has been some rubbish written on here the last couple of days, no doubt the hand wringers will read this as a defence of the idiots and the hooligans which couldn't be further from the truth but unfortunately there seems to be a line of thought which says if you don't agree that the 3000 fans deserved to be kettled for the acts of the few and thought the police were heavy handed then you must be a hoolie sympathiser.

Moronic post??? Righto.Tell you what for the next game when we play them why don't you suggest selling the two club scarfs with Charlton on one half and Palace on the other .Go back to 2007 and ask the dads and kids how they felt about being attacked on a train. The best thing is on their site they haven't said much about it. Also ask yourself would you really leave the car parked outside in the knowledge that 2,000 away fans will be marching past. The irony .

But is that not the point Wiwlb was making bert

We don't have a hooligan problem we have an issue with 2 clubs just 2 nothing has changed nothing in 30 years nearly 40 between the two

If the boys want to have a kick off with bham no one other than them will know or find out

It's all getting blown totally totally out of proportion
  • TBF if you reread my post, I said to reduce the problems at games like Millwall & Palace. I didn't say it was needed at any other games.

Trying to make some sense of your reply but anyway. What happened in 2007 was was a cowardly and vile act carried out by cowardly and vile people. I also consider the smashing of toilets, ripping out of seats, throwing coins, shouting foul abuse and the wanton vandalism of cars to be cowardly and vile. Maybe not quite as cowardly and vile as what happened on that train in 2007 but nevertheless dispicable acts of cowardice. Never mind all this get it into perspective, it's a local derby bollocks. If it was up to me I would ban them all from all football grounds for life.

  • It's probably G blocks fault.
  • I really wish Operation Pig would start a thread and tell us how Sheffield Wednesday would sort it ;0)

  • WIWALB - Just to clarify then. If someone comes round your house & smashes up your toilet, smashes up your setee, throws coins at you & trashes your car, you're ok with that ?
  • Suggestion 1

Future flashpoint games against the likes of Millwall & Palace away should be S/T & Valley Gold only, 1 per person.
This should stop the majority of trouble as I would guess, most of the trouble was caused by non S/T holders, whether they were Charlton supporters or their mates who support other clubs.

I have no doubt anyone that is not a S/T holder will strongly disagree, but that's the consequence of having tickets going on general sale & S/T holders giving tickets to their mates, when you can purchase more than one each.

I'm only suggesting this for the "flashpoint" games.

IE Fulham A we took 7000 ? & no real problems, as Fulham aren't known for trouble, so the troublemakers didn't want to go.

    In agreement.

    Yay Gooner got in!! Yipee

Back on subject. I have been to a few Palace away games in my time and unfortunately there has always been an element of trouble and I doubt it will change but Saturday was the worst I have seen. That said sensible policing and stewarding would have avoided the situation back to the normal levels.
  • Wanton Vandalism? Is that like Wanton Soup? - I find that vile too

Agree with that Kap ...I didn't go Saturday, but have always seen trouble there but OB approached things in a different way in the past ...mindless vandalism is pathetic but from what I have been told, OB did nobody any favours including local residents
  • Listen, no one with any semblance of sanity thinks smashing up cars and toilets is OK. But you really need to get over it or find something else to worry about. I don't get these outrage junkies. So Charlton had some idiot fans on sat - it's really not the end of the world is it? The only way it will effect your life is if you suggest such measures as the OP. Football is already sterilised/over-priced as it is - why would you exclude many who many not be able to afford a season ticket the opportunity to see their team play and thus reducing our away support and our away atmosphere. Give over. I'm sure Palace fans aren't crying over a few smashed up seats and neither should you be.

The plastic fans that wear scarfs in which they have bought on the day with both clubs names and colours on.
