So how do we reduce the vandalism/violence ?

Future flashpoint games against the likes of Millwall & Palace away should be S/T & Valley Gold only, 1 per person.
This should stop the majority of trouble as I would guess, most of the trouble was caused by non S/T holders, whether they were Charlton supporters or their mates who support other clubs.

I have no doubt anyone that is not a S/T holder will strongly disagree, but that's the consequence of having tickets going on general sale & S/T holders giving tickets to their mates, when you can purchase more than one each.

I'm only suggesting this for the "flashpoint" games.

IE Fulham A we took 7000 ? & no real problems, as Fulham aren't known for trouble, so the troublemakers didn't want to go.

I'm not saying there was trouble.
Thank-you. You agree. There wasn't any trouble. There was never likely to be any trouble. No one wrecked the toilets, smashed the seats out, or vandalised cars & peoples property. Not sure why you say I'm talking rubbish, when you agree there was no trouble at Fulham. Very strange.
My issue is with the flashpoint games such as Millwall & Palace. That's what I said. Have another read.
  • I beg to differ on the Fulham game. Quite a few nicked on the way out. Some numpty took a swing at me at half time. Lots of scuffles behind the stand and in the park.

Have a West Ham supporting mate who sat in the Fulham end that day and he remarked on the amount of nonsense going on outside.
  • Was it not the Fulham game that led to the arrests for those singing songs about Stephen Lawrence?

Basically this sort of antisocial, ignorant, thuggish nonsense has been brewing for a couple of years now IMO.
  • We're heading the way of this lot

Fair enough, if you say so, but I didn't see any of it & went that way to & from.
And yes there was singing on the train, but personally I don't think that's quite the same as Saturday.

  • To address the OP, don't tolerate it. I saw some git pull off a wing mirror and told him to stop. He did. Glad he didn't have a pop at me but I'm a lightweight & it would've been poor form on his behalf.

Just tell the scrotes what you think of them if you see them in action.

So the 99.9% of non s/t's who went and caused no trouble should be banned because of the actions of a very, very small minority ?

Destroying property is illegal so anyone responsible should be prosecuted. The clubs ability to influence behaviour can only extend so far, I think enforcing the law may be overstepping the mark and its a question for the police.
Isn't that how the police approach it? There are 20 people in that crowd who are potential troublemakers, best keep the whole 3000 in a small confined space with no communication and treat them all as criminals.
  • a 12.30 ko would sort it and thats it put it to bed till next season as neither palace or millwall will get promoted as for the st idea i think its a bit silly as ive only in the last year got my season ticket back, doesnt make me any less of a fan and would be unfair on many as i took my grandad this saturday and i can assure you he certainly didnt do any damage ha,

Did you not see what came of them boats?? I'm not saying there was trouble but there was more of a Charlton turnout at that game than most and most are home regulars and at a fair few aways.
    You're talking rubbish mate.
Spot on mate. What we had at Fulham was outstanding. Most out for a day out and i saw more than enough bother - not to mention half time when it was within a whisker of going off with plod.

As for Saturday - i know everyones at work bored but do some of you really mean all of this? It is what it is. Its been going on since i started going in 1975 and always will. Most people stay away from being kettled or seeing any bother as at most grounds you can but Saturday Plod wanted a reaction to all the OT money spent on them. Shit happens.
  • You are all wasting your time here. This is a huge problem that takes in bad parenting, poor schooling, foul language, sex openly being flaunted on TV and in the media. Not to mention Courts which fail to punish offenders in the correct manner. This Country is going to the dogs as we allow thousands of pickpockets etc to flood in. This is not a football problem, it's much bigger than that.

    Lol
  • Half the supporters (on this board only) want the trouble stopped, the other half think its not really a problem, therefore nothing will change.

I actually agree with the restriction idea, we are only talking about a handful of matches so its hardly a massive restriction for honest fans with no ST.

Why doesn't this thread surprise me?

It saddens me that too many of our fans appear to be glory in being Millwall Lite.

"It's only one or two games so it's alright" or words to that effect. Well one or two games becomes three or four becomes five or six etc and suddenly Charlton is no longer a family club. It seems many of our fans have contempt for us as a family club.

You can dismiss me as an Old Fart but you lot who think that smashing cars, toilets and throwing seats and flares in crowds is wonderful just ask yourselves this and answer honestly: would you feel comfortable taking your wife and children? If the answer is no then you will understand where I am coming from. If the answer is that you think wives and children shouldn't attend football then we know where we stand and the type of selfish git we are dealing with.

    Ok you've sneered at Granpa.

So what is the problem then? Or are you part of it?

"thousands of pickpockets allowed to flood in" ... is Granpa BNP or EDL?
  • "thousands of pickpockets allowed to flood in" ... is Granpa BNP or EDF?

Why does a concern about unfettered immigration, courtesy of the EU, make you either?

Who on this thread or any other has condoned the vandalism?

No one have they? (unless I've missed it) People have said it's always gone on but I can't see anyone saying that smashing up cars or toilets is anything but prickish.

Atmosphere was top class on saturday, police were disorgansised and their tactics were a likely catalyst for a lot that went on and on top of that a minescule proportion of idiots damaged cars and property like the two bob mugs they are. End of story.

Can't believe the resultant sociology dissertation that has unfolded on here in the 3 days since.

Get 3,000 people together from any walk of life and not everyone is going to be the same. All this family club talk...some people might be tartan blanket and thermos flask, some people might be the complete opposite and the majority will be somewhere in between. Doesn't really give anyone the right to say that everyone has to conform to what their behest image of the club is imo.

  • "thousands of pickpockets allowed to flood in" ... is Granpa BNP or EDF?

Er, think you mean EDL mate
(I picked up on that quote too tho. Not sure what that's got to do with Saturday)
  • I'm guessing neither - just ignorant.

Sorry RCT I generally agree with you but on this occasion you do not appear to understand what condone means.

Collins dictionary: Condone to over look or forgive.

'its a local derby' 'its happened before' 'get over it' all statements that appear in this thread and seek to overlook the issue or forgive it for various historical reasons.

Condone it does not really mean accepting or encouraging it which people haven't done.

haha yes.. oops... "EDF" are the actual thieving bastards
  • Hope some of these on here never do jury service. You would be convicted even before the charge has been read. Thank Christ they wouldn't be passing down sentence.

Done it twice: Only question I asked the Judge was are the accussed millwall or palace, if yes, Guilty.

Every one should stop eating meat. Since I gave up the flesh I've become proper meek and mild.

    *sorry, just lightening the mood*

    *This*

  • Fair enough DRF, condone is prob a bad choice of word in that case.

Agreed. I have not seen one person say it was or doesn't agree it was stupid. You are twisting words along with a few others. No one has said it was good.

    STOP PRESS

Is this the first time in any Charlton Life discussion where one person has changed their mind due to the posting of another?

Those that speak out about it are criticised and I think on one of Choice's threads someone describes the toilet vandal as a legend. The attitude certainly isn't one of condemnation. "Our support was great today blah, blah, blah."

They may well be joking about the toilet but incidents like that affect all of us, yobs and decent people, as exemplified by the Police thread where middle aged fans with walking sticks were kettled.

You may say what came first the chicken or the egg?

Hard to play the victim though in my opinion when seats have been ripped out of the stand and piping destroyed in toilets. The police love an over reaction be it closing roads for hours or anything else and this scummy element, I refuse to call them supporters, play right into the hands of the Police.
