I don't think that singing homophobic chants at Brighton is that bad though. Reason being that the majority of them aren't, its just the reputation of the town. Having said that, I wouldn't sing because its boring as they get it all the tine.
For the record, I agree homophobia is terrible, just don't agree that singing it to Brighton fans is that bad. Just my opinion.

So homophobia is bad but singing homophobic chants isn't that bad. Strange logic there.

Agree that it is boring as it is done at every ground but still something we can move on from.
I meant that I don't feel chanting it at Brighton fans in general is that bad as the majority will not be gay.
So using your logic, singing racist songs at football fans from a town known for its high ratio of ethnic minoritys (Bradford/Leicester/Birmingham) is ok as the majority of them may not be black or asian.

Sorry as I really don't want to dig you out perosnally but so what if most aren't gay?

If they are not gay why are you suggesting that they are unless you are saying that being gay is a "bad" thing. It is being sung as an insult pure and simple.

And if they are gay then you are insulting them. As well the gay Charlton fans sitting near you, or the gay players on the pitch.

I really cba to get into an argument with anyone on here. Or explain my point. Every prick on here wants a row now it seems.

So you don't want to debate what you said but calling me a prick is OK.

Seems like what you mean is you were talking crap, I pulled you on it and now you need a way to get out the big, big hole you dug yourself.

"CBA to explain your point". Don't make it then and then no one will every disagree with you. Simple really, bit like you : - )
I wasnt calling you a prick, just referring to everyone arguing, nobody seems to be able to have an opinion. With regards to my point, my opinion (rightly or wrongly) and I realise I worded it terribly, is that I dont tolerate homophobic chanting but I feel when its aimed at Brighton its just a bit of banter/stick. Because its just aimed at the stereotype.
With respect, Henry, you no fuck all about me so why you calling me simple. Completely contradicted what you said 10 mins ago about not wanting to 'dig me out personally'.

As you pointed out I was trying very hard not to make it personal but then YOU started with the insults. When YOU realised that you'd worded YOUR argument terribly you could have just said that but no, you started calling people pricks.

And then you get all upset and stressy. Bizarre.

Hmm. Wonder if it is possible that different gay people have different views.

  • You don't have to be gay to be offended by those songs. It's disgusting. It's still discrimination.

I didn't directly call you a prick, just couldnt be asked to keep going with it as I tried to say. You have referred to it as an 'argument' whereas I was just making a point, and this completely shows my point about the arguing on here. You make an opinion, somebody disagrees and before you know its stupid petty arguing.

I am offended by this homophobic comment
  • The gay thing is a dated bit of banter with Brighton - like tractors with norwich and sheep with cardiff - the songs are offensive but critically, they are boring - if they were humorous, then no matter how un PC, they are more acceptable, if thats the right word. Humour always involves ridicule in some way - Jeremy Kyle at Millwall, Jimmy saville to Leeds - i think things have gone a bit over the top whereby being homophobic or racist are seen as almost on a par with murder - they are of course wrong but football has always involved a bit of wrong - too much of it is offensive and boring so to go through the full repertoire of gay brighton songs is above anything else just predictable and unwitty.

I never once called it an argument. I just gave my opinion and you (and DA9) disagreed, so I made a statement saying I cba to argue, as its happening too much on here.
I didn't directly call you a prick, but inadvertently I obviously did for which I apologise. I believe I am entitled to my opinion and so are you. Again, I apologise if you felt I was calling you a prick.
  • Ok, apology accepted, let's move on.

Of course you are entitled to an opinion but in the same way others entitled to disagree.
  • If he didn't mean you he must have meant DA9 then, I'd have stuck with Henry to be honest :-)
  • I understand that, but if two people are going to disagree, need you keep debating? Seems pointless
We can move on, didn't like you calling me simple though, you dont know me.
  • Funny thread

Can I still refer to palace v Brighton as the gay derby?

  • It's humour FFS. A good mate of mine is Brighton, built like an outhouse and has his fair share of run ins in the name of Brighton - he happily laughs at it all.

If we really are that sensitive then threatening Millwall with Jeremy Kyle is very discriminating against their perceived social class.

What If any of them did have problems at home or came from disfunctional families, or had shagged their sister ?

How bad would they be feeling now that they had to endure that kind of abuse ?

  • I understand that, but if two people are going to disagree, need you keep debating? Seems pointless
We can move on, didn't like you calling me simple though, you dont know me.

Fair enough, apologies for calling you simple.
  • It carrys the same fine ban and punishment as racism

Looking forward to sat tbh as i think their fans will be making as much noise and nusance as possible

Get the feeling we might be a few fans lighter after sat shinanegans but hey nothing can be done about that

    Should be a lively affair

  • The last two times Brighton have visited the Valley their support, like their team, was excellent. I expect them to be the same on Saturday. 'We are Brighton, from the south', and the witty (sung at us) 'you dirty northern ba*tards' being a couple that are memorable.
I would like to think we could be a bit more creative than the homophobic stuff. We have as many gay fans as Brighton I suppose, so it is boringly predictable singing that stuff.
However Brighton do have the only Green Party MP, and in Gardner Street a shop called Vegetarian Shoes. There you go, a ready made individual Brighton attribute to sing about.

to the tune of 'here we go' you could sing
    'falafel'
    or
'we can see you hugging trees'
    or
'Poyet Poyet show us yer veg
    Poyet show us your veg'
  • Would something like "C'mon Charlton", "C'mon you Addicks" or "C'mon you Reds" be suitable for the occasion?
  • Funny thread

Can I still refer to palace v Brighton as the gay derby?

    I think they prefer queer.

Not funny enough and they hear stuff like that every week - they're probably bored of it.

Maybe we could have someone ask them what songs they'd like us to sing?
