I don't like homophobia at all but I'm not sure how implying that people take part in gay sex is homophobic...
If we started singing "we hate Brighton cos you're a bunch of gays" then yes that would be homophobic, but a song which would suggest that people are gay is probably not to be honest...

But why are you suggesting that they are gay/take part in gay sex other than as an insult?

There is nothing wrong with being gay but by singing the songs you are saying that being gay is a negative thing that they should be ashamed of (if gay) or deny (if straight) as it is less "manly" than being "straight".

20/30 years ago we had the same debate about racist singing. It was just "banter" and "no one was offended" than as well, or so some people said : - (

Fair enough, I do accept your point of view. The last thing I would want to do is actually upset someone who was gay or something like that. :-)
  • Totally agree with Huskaris... It's not insinuating that it's a bad thing and isn't being done for that reason. It's being sung as it's a stereotype that winds up Brighton fans and is in no way malicious.
  • FFS, the game is 5 days away yet and we're already laying into each other!
  • All I'm saying is if I was a Brighton fan I would find it pretty funny.

"we forgot that you were queer" etc is clearly insinuating that being gay is bad - surely you recognise that these songs are sung to Brighton as an insult ?

Anyway, the only song we need to wind the Brighton fans up is "we hate Palace more than you"!
  • Are you palace in disguise?
  • Are you palace in disguise?

this would probably get to them the most.
  • Why would a Brighton fan find it funny when it is sang to them at every away ground they visit - boring yes, funny I doubt it.

  • We should find a way of ribbing them over disgracing themselves at sellout

"you embarrassed yourselves and really let us down last weekend" perhaps ?
  • Some of those songs are beyond crass

Not sure what tune that can be fit into!

    Is that to our fans?

Any tune at all. The Red Division can sing it at the speed of light and make it fit it. : - )

    Or to Tom Hark

    You embarrassed yourselves
    Really let us down
    Last weekend
    at Palace

  • I don't think that singing homophobic chants at Brighton is that bad though. Reason being that the majority of them aren't, its just the reputation of the town. Having said that, I wouldn't sing because its boring as they get it all the tine.
For the record, I agree homophobia is terrible, just don't agree that singing it to Brighton fans is that bad. Just my opinion.

    Very true.

Jeremy Kyle was sung to Peterborough, so yeah horse has already bolted on that one sorry.

And friend or defoe, lets dispense with the homophobia, it's as bad as racism.

but targeting someone for their race is clear racism, singing homophobic songs at Brighton is different. It's just a bit of fun.
I am all for banter & giving the away fans a bit of stick. But you cannot condone homophohia. We don't want/need that shit being sung on saturday. It is embarrassing.
I wasnt condoning, but IMO, singing homophobic songs at Brighton is just giving them a bit of banter/stick. Chances are, 99% of them tomorrow won't be gay

So homophobia is bad but singing homophobic chants isn't that bad. Strange logic there.

Agree that it is boring as it is done at every ground but still something we can move on from.

  • I started this thread because I thought we had some togetherness, can we keep it bright and aimed lightheartedly at the opposition. No I dont think Brighton fans would be upset at being called gay...they just find it boring.

So using your logic, singing racist songs at football fans from a town known for its high ratio of ethnic minoritys (Bradford/Leicester/Birmingham) is ok as the majority of them may not be black or asian.

Sorry as I really don't want to dig you out perosnally but so what if most aren't gay?

If they are not gay why are you suggesting that they are unless you are saying that being gay is a "bad" thing. It is being sung as an insult pure and simple.

And if they are gay then you are insulting them. As well the gay Charlton fans sitting near you, or the gay players on the pitch.

  • I think I need to sleep now I have read this thread.

I really cba to get into an argument with anyone on here. Or explain my point. Every prick on here wants a row now it seems.

Seems like what you mean is you were talking crap, I pulled you on it and now you need a way to get out the big, big hole you dug yourself.

"CBA to explain your point". Don't make it then and then no one will every disagree with you. Simple really, bit like you : - )
