Ha, unfortunate for that Burnley lot. Seem a bit deluded. For some reason when I read that, I saw it as Pato as in Alexandre Pato, who admittedly probably would have given old Leon a torrid time. Took me a while of wondering where that hypothetical came from to realise they meant that Paterson fella who Leon appears to have eaten as I don't remember hearing from him..
prolly a result jackson and haynes not scoring after the handball cos otherwise the ref may not have sent the burnley player off and the result could have been worse against 11 men
and that was a great save from hamer from that sweetly struck drive looked top corner bound
As for the penalty. Powell called it right - ball was not flying into the net at 100mph - the Burnley player on the line could have moved his arm out of the way and let it go in if he chose too. penalty and sending off as per the rules. Burnley need to show a bit more grace - ref was clearly right
It was an away win like many from last season. A good professional performance. Yes, we made hard work of it, but Burnley were a decent team. I always thought we were most likely to win after the sending off, but that 1st goal was always going to be vital. Once we got it, I thought we'd get more, but we didn't really stretch them. Defence played well as usual. Pritchard & Kerkar were decent, Jackson ok & Jonsson very poor. Hulse & Haynes did well. Best person on the pitch for me, was the ref, who the Burnley fans intimidated constantly from the sending off, until the final whistle. I reckon 90% of refs, would have caved in & sent off one of ours to even it up or give them the free kicks etc. Although we were hanging on a bit at the end, I was confident we would. Their danger coming from free kicks & corners of which there were at least a dozen.
i just saw the highlights and i thought hamer had an excellent gm. He stood his ground on 2 or 3 point blank chances from burnley and collected cooley ... not to mention that diving save he had to tip over the bar from a burnley volley ripped from 30 yards which was goalbound .... might be one of his best saves this season
The goal was brilliant. a Jackson Long ball over the top to Hulse, Hulse knocks it back across cooley with his head first time, for Haynes to Head a looper back post that the goalie stood no chance...
A bit late posting as away yesterday. First time we had seen team live since Leicester. After that match, even though it was enjoyable and we won, we felt it was going to be a long, hard season. On Saturday, though, there was a much stronger sense of cautious optimism. We were always in the game, although not good at keeping possession. They came out strongly at start of second half, but we weathered that, then really went on the offensive, and the goal resulted. Goal was pretty much our only decent move of the match! Once we had the lead, it didn't feel like we would let it slip, despite sitting back a bit deep and letting them come at us - as a few have already said, more like last season in that way. Not pretty football, but a very enjoyable afternoon, and good to hear a few of the old songs.
On the crowdwatch front, I was delighted to see Headphones Norm on the train from Preston, Pork Pie in the cricket club and Seb doing the worm on the way out of the ground. Oh, and sat near Fanny too (but didn't get offered any humbugs or chocolate fingers...) Just a shame not to find Addickted...where were you hiding, Nick?!
Powell was certainly upset by something at the end - Mr W saw him speak to a steward, so think it was probably something said or done by their crowd near the dugout...just hope it was not anything racist.

Onwards and upwards!
THINK you were visiting the powder room when they were snapped up, Weegie ...sorry !
Tell me where you'll be going next & I'll save you some .
Apology accepted, Fanny! (Think I may have been gulping a half-time beer.) Will be at the Valley on Sat - but North Upper, so unlikely to see you. Will look out for you at a future Northern away match...Take care.
As I see it handball on the line is a sending off. It denied us a goal. Though we and the noisiest part of the home crowd were all too far away to see it. The ref did well not to succumb to the intimidation from the crowd baying for him to even up the numbers. Hulse was sandwiched and was not at fault for the alleged elbow. I really like what I see with Hulse. Hard work, intelligence and more than a touch of class. Eggy didn't look like the midfield saviour though.
As others have said this was not an attractive game or one of our best performances. Why the he'll we don't keep it on the floor when we look superior doing that I just don't know but if you are listening Chrissy please tell em! The ball spent FAR too much time in the sky today.

Great result yesterday. I would have taken a draw at the start but to get the 3 points is brilliant.
Just hope we can go unbeaten now into the millsmall game

Be great to see VOTV make a comeback Rick.
PLUS we've played 9 away games, half the division have played 8 and still conceded more than us.

Put Haynes back in his box with the cotton wool!
