  • When you look at the bench we had plus Stephens, Wiggins & Kermo all out we really do have a good squad.

    In CP we trust.
  • Great three points. Thought they were quite a good team and they took te game to us even with 10 mean.
The ref was terrible for both teams extremely stop start.
Egert looked like he didn't have a clue hopefully he'll improve with match fitness.
Haynes and Hulse upfront is just quality especially Hulse again today.
Atmosphere was abit flat but really picked up second half!
Loved Haynes signalling 1-0 to the burnley fans who were abusing him an then kissing and tapping the charlton badge. Pritchard was jumping up and down at the final whistle and kerkar was tapping the charlton badge too.
They really dug in deep today and showed how much passion they have for the club.. Love it
  • Well done Chris and the lads, great stuff, onwards up the league if you please.
  • Cheers @Blutcher and Greenie Junior glad you've been rewarded for a long trip.

Look forward to hearing from the Tartan Army and.all others there,
  • I think Danny Haynes even told the ref it wasn't handball...

Danny Haynes seems to be making a huge impact, after finally shaking off the injuries. If we had a full strength squad with no injuries CP would have some major selection headaches. Personally I would love to see a settled side now for a few games - think we can really build on these last 3 results.
  • ''Hulse and Fuller are both players who I'd happily see stretchered off the pitch with bones sticking out of their shins''

    Pleasant
  • Sounds like another strong, resilient performance and a vital 3 points sees us looking up towards the play-off positions.
Plans obviously disrupted losing Stephens to illness, but we still managed to get the job done and that is what counts.
Great to see other teams rucking at the officials - we got virtually nothing for the first dozen games.

They've got the hang of this Championship malarkey now haven't they? Confidence coming back, the squad fired up, supporters supporting, another great win and CP as our manager. Life's feeling good.

re: The reasons why the trippier decision was so wrong
Hulse and Fuller are both players who I'd happily see stretchered off the pitch with bones sticking out of their shins.
  • Solly doesn't want to give that POTY trophy back !
  • Class. Burnley. Don't think so
  • Nice to see a bit of a gap from us and the bottom 3 now. Dont want to get carried away, lets just take one game at a time and see how many points we can get and where that takes us.
  • Get in. What a 3 points and clean sheet that is.

  • Wasn't there, but this one sounded like many an away win from last season where opposing fans whined we did nothing yet come away with the three points.

Points are points. Well done lads

Haynes. Haynes. Haynes. This guy is looking to be a real key man now he's fit again. Can't wait till we get our injuries out of the way now! :D

At the end of the day we've missed out on quite a few points due to dodgy officials - Blackburn and Hull to name but 2 games. So perhaps the pendulum has just swung our way today? That is actually if it wasn't a clear red. As for Hulse - I wasnt there today but can't imagine him just going straight out and elbowing someone! Does someone want to share what happened? (Perhaps also share why they hate Fuller too?)

All in all, 9 out of 9 points, 3 goals in 3 games for Haynes - and now at 14th in the table. Good lads.
    From that thread:
"Hulse and Fuller are both players who I'd happily see stretchered off the pitch with bones sticking out of their shins."
    They're a lovely bunch of f*ck-nuggets aren't they?

Just back from the game and hate to burst any bubbles, but we were lucky beyond belief today. Someone behind me said that following the goal, we pretty much gave a perfect example of how to blow it after going one up and I have to agree. Following the goal, we were, quite simply, suicidal - most of us were waiting for their equaliser, which luckily never came. We sat deep, hoofed it aimlessly up the field and kept losing possession and passing straight to them - it was a nightmare. The defence held out very well (given the attacking threat that Burnley had, especially from set pieces, they were fantastic), but the rest of the team were awful (with the possible exception of Pritchard who kept harassing them and being a thorn in their sides).

After they went down to 10 men they looked to me to be on top pretty much to the end of the game as we could not put attacking moves together but kept giving the ball straight back to them. The reason for that was that we constantly gave away possession and our attacking plan consisted of aimless punts that were gobbled up by their defence. Given that we had the opportunity to take them apart, we were pretty clueless. I would even stick my neck out and say that we sorely missed the creativity of a Stephens type player who could hold the ball, and look around and try and create something. We desperately needed to get the ball on the floor, slow the pace down and keep possession, but all we could do was give possession away so that they could mount another attack.

Johnson was very poor and was subbed immediately after he'd fallen over (again) and gifted one of their forwards an open goal, which they fortunately missed. To his credit, CP knew that he was a liability so we might as well put another forward on, which eventually led to the goal, but only after more aimless punting (not taking anything away from Haynes' header which was excellent from a very tricky position which I didn't think would be converted). After that, they were there for the taking, but instead we thought we'd give them a sporting go at getting an equaliser.

If it wasn't for some very good defending and some excellent work by Hamer (I'm so very glad that he is our keeper), we would have lost to those 10 men. At the end I think that CP was actually a bit cross with his team and he couldn't hide it.

Delighted with the 3 points, but we were poor today. If we play like that against Millwall, it won't end well for us. However, I would have been happy with a point, so it's a bonus. Hopefully it was just a bad day at the office!

  • Oh and Burnley fans need a lesson in anatomy. They appear to get hands and feet confused a hell of a lot. They spent most of the game shouting 'HANDBALL' every time our players got anywhere near the ball.

Judging by that forum, they also appear to confuse arses and elbows, too.

  • just home from Turf Moor

Burnley played some lovely football but didn't take their chances, we played ugly football and took one of our chances, that was the difference.
The defence was strong but our attacking build up usually consisted of lumping the ball anywhere and usually to a Burnley player. JJ's penalty was very poor, he aimed for the left hand corner, was on target but the ball had no pace and the goalie tipped it round the corner. Our goal was well taken and involved Solly, I think Pritchard and Haynes was in the right place to tuck it away, more you couldn't ask. For the last 24 minutes it was all Burnley, you would never have thought they were down to 10 men but our defence stood resolute and when Burnley did get a chance they missed.
It might sound a lucky win, it wasn't it was forged out of team work, fitness, good substitutions and a will to win and not just play pretty football like the other lot who lost.
  • Great win and good to see 10 points between us and the bottom 3. Leon Cort my MOM, honourable mentions to Haynes and Hulse which is a really good front pairing. More later!
  • Need to wrap Haynes in cotton wool. His pace has given us another dimension.

Tough tough place to go and a completely unexpected 3 points.
  • Fantastic result. Didn't let the penalty miss hamper us. Clean sheet . Happy days. Keep the momentum going.:))))

  • Spent most of the day in Pub watching other London teams - Arse, Spurs and Chels - so happy to be a Charlton fan
  • Wow what a response from the lads, 3 wins in a row , keep it up guys.
  • I was sat on the halfway line with a Burnley mate and it has to be said that they have quite a few rabid specimens. I don't think I have ever heard the 'C' word as much at a game - not something that bothers me particularly but there were a couple of primary school kids in the row in front of me, albeit that no one batted an eyelid. They were baying for everything and the ref became a scapegoat for all their frustrations.

I didn't see a handball for the penalty (brilliant play by Solly) but it all happened very quickly. As for Hulse, he went up with between two of their players and no way did he intentionally or recklessly elbow anybody.
  • Big win. Hulse deserves special mention I reckon.
Unselfish player doing a job often missed by fans. great to have a player like this, particularly when you think of some of the driftwood we've had in the number 9 shirt in recent years.
  • Well done to CP. and the boys. I really didn't think we'd get anything from the game today so I'm pleased to be proved wrong. Good chance to reel Huddersfield in next week. Onwards and upwards. The future's bright, the future's Red n White. COYR's

Great to see quotes like this. Hulsey was loved at Crewe, Sheffield Utd. and Derby County for exactly the same reason. He's not a prolific goascorer (1 in 3 his ratio) but he works so hard and unselfishly for the team. He's an old fashioned target-man who leads the line well, won headers, never allow central defenders to rest. If we keep him, we'll have the perfect foil for Haynes AND Fuller.
