Penultimate league game at the old Den (they lost to Bristol Rovers in the last league game).
Would be the last London derby at the old Den unless they played a friendly after this (don't think that they did).
Went to this on the bus from Woolwich. Was 15 at the time.
The bloke selling the hotdogs from the cage in the away end gave me a free ribena as it was his last game there and he wasn't being employed at the toolbox.
You could try that...but at best you would get your head caved in and at worst you would hold your own and then get a knock at the door from the OB a month later.
Fuck me mate. Have just shat meself. Don't think I'll go now. Thanks for the heads up - close one.
As if we need a millwa** fan to tell us how many supporters we would take here or there.
Surely they should be more interested in their own support woes?!
Woes? The club is in its healthiest state crowd wise since the docks closed.
Last year we averaged 11,500 in a season we struggled for most of it, had awful home form and whilst in the middle of the worse recession since the 1930s.
We are a small club - but we are actually a growing one. Our crowds just look small to you because you have bigger gates.
Millwall average 2010-11 - 12,438 Millwall average 2011-12 - 11,484 Millwall average 2012-13 so far - 10,669
Are you a politician? That's not what i'd class as 'growing'.
That's a very narrow and short-sighted way of looking at things.
Last season, as you can see, we averaged 11,484 in a season we were truly terrible at home and struggled for most of the season. Our biggest game was also made members only & was restricted in capacity. Furthermore, this at a time when we are sufferring a recession.
Now, go back to the mid 1990s and there is no way we would have averaged anywhere near that for similar circumstances - despite having recently moved grounds & having enjoyed top flight football in recent history.
Comparing a 1,000 drop to our first season after promotion is a bit silly.
As is saying we are currently averaging 'only' 10,669 this season - before we've played Charlton, Palace, Wolves, Forest, Blackburn, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday at home. All games that will be in our top attendances this season. Also, when you remember we started poorly & are now improving...meaning even the visits of the likes of Watford will see higher gates than our current average.
Since the docks closed & we got associated with hooliganism our hardcore got down to 4-5,000 in the 80s, 8-9,000 in the 90s and 9-10,000 in the 2000s.
As I say, I think the club is slowly getting back to its early 70s support levels.
Last season we played Bristol City on a Sunday, live on Sky, whilst in 20th place and in the run up to Christmas, with a recession in full swing. We got a crowd of 10,252. That would have been unthinkable 15 years ago. In fact I can remember us doing well & playing a decent Middlesbrough side on Sky in the 90s & only getting 7,000 odd.

Went to this as well, we were in the west terrace and the ticket cost £8.00. NOT that big a crowd either.
If memory serves me correctly Gritty played and was so bad we were chanting for Paul Bacon to come on and replace him....
We had the whole of Ilderton Rd as I was standing right behind the goal where Jon Goodman scored for them quite early after Leaburn had missed two sitters in the first five minutes down the other end.
Was a typically insipid CAFC derby performance from what I remember
nearly everyones crowds have risen in the period you mention , Sky made football popular and trendy
our crowds(and football in general) have peaked imo and will gently drift back off if we tread water for a few years
You might be right, but I doubt they'll go back all that low. If we were to stay as we are for another five years I could see an average home gate of about 14,000. When did we last have a similar average home attendance before 1998? I've got all my dad's old programmes from the early 70s and the crowds are pretty low.
(Please don't get the impression that I spend my spare time studying old programmes.)
Took my Aussie mate to his first English football match that day. The look on his face was priceless when he took in the "atmosphere" of that shit hole. He grew up not far from the SCG so to say the facilities were a revelation would be an understatement. We were crammed in the left hand "cage" I seem to remember, that arsehole Burr was reluctant to believe we would need the whole end. When my mate said he was off for a piss I genuinely feared I would never see him again and advised him to hold it or just wet himself, you seriously could not move. Anyway he went to the bogs for what was ages only to reappear with tales of the rabid local youth baiting him from outside the ground, had to chuckle. Welcome to England!
Suffice to say we caved in and he has been an Addick ever since, never did knock that natural Aussie optimism out of him though...
I'll be in the Amersham arms in New cross. Only 10 minutes from me.
The Walpole was better, two screens, decent beer & thai food on the cheap. Now going to be turned into some arty hotel or something.
Used to live on New Cross Road a couple years ago - Walpole was a cracking pub, gutted it's closed. The New Cross House is quite good, although no tv in there, quite like the Marquis of Granby for a trip back in time as well.
we could do with this formation at the start of the game instead of wheeling them out at the end when it was far too late and we had already lost 4-0 (what a miserable day)...

Nervous at all about playing us ?

There are plenty of decent ones left open...I'll be in the Forresters I think.
As for the Bram - dont write it off yet, that place has had more ressurections than Jesus. Unless you know it's gone for good this time?
