Prague, I dont disagree that its an amazing result given all of the circumstances. But I believe that without the tactical nous that we are missing, we will lose some (potentially) vital points.
'Cardiff have a major threat on their right flank' Cardiff are league leaders, they will be a major threat full stop. Solly is not comfortable LB, Morrison is not comfortable RB and Dervite breaks up a good partnership of MM & LC. Why not put, for example, Dervite LB - so only 1 player is uncomfortable.
'the scratch side he's put out, some of them like Haynes (and possibly Cort) still not fully fit' Haynes not fit? Why start him RW with Green on the bench if hes not fit? Why not recall Wagstaff?
'I don't call that a good manager. I call that a bloody miracle worker' 'Miracles' are nice and give us something to cheer about but they are few and far between. Why not focus on getting some regualr results first.
I am certain that earlier substitutions would have resulted in the 5-2 rout we all wanted.... not the 5-4 panic we got.
You lost me when you suggested a Wagstaff recall.
Still it's all about opinions.
Maybe you should reflect on the cardiff manager and the attitude their fans have to him. They threw away a two goal lead, let in five to a team on its knees psychologically. Some fans are calling for his head too.
But Cardiff are ahead of all the teams with the big parachute wedge...bad manager, I don't think so.
How do you mean I lost you with the Wagstaff comment? Its a fair point though surely? (whether you or I think hes up to Champ level is irrelevant)
With regards to Cardiff, your absolutely correct, as league leaders they shouldnt be giving away a 2 goal lead to a bottom 6 side. But its Charlton I care about.
Youve also now lost me with regards the parachute wedge?
I think SCP did things the way he did because Noone is one of the best wingers in this league and Solly is the only fit full back we have capable of handling him.
He would not have moved Morro to right back by choice. He has done it through expediency.
I had this argument with a bloke a few seats along from me last night. I said to him given the injury situation what would you do different? He hesitated then spluttered a bit and said Powell is paid to make these decisions. I said that's precisely what he has done let's judge it at the end of the match.
I have to disagree. Solly is wasted at left back, and I genuinely feel it could hamper his progress if he stays there too long. The complete overhaul of the back 4 for the sake of 1 position is madness to me.
Cardiff may not have the parachute wedge but their fans are moaning because they have supposedly spent £10 million.
Yes (maybe, I don't know the figure) but until last night, it was paying dividends. Of course last night they were also like us missing key players such as Craig Bellamy.
I think a lot of fans who criticise managers have never had to manage anybody for a living, otherwise they'd be a bit slower with their sweeping criticisms
No the defence didn't look comfortable but it is meaningless to attack Powell after he has been forced to change the back four by injuries and the boro result.
He took a risk and it paid off.
Putting Solly at LB is not ideal but it freed up Kerker to play in midfield and he set up the 1st, 2nd and winning 5th goals.
It wasn't a perfect performance, we didn't control the game, we didn't limit them to no shots or goals but we won.
The margins in most games this year have been very close either way. This time Powell got it right$
i can see what the guys saying though, by putting dervite LB we would have only had him playing out of position. the other 3 members of the back 4 would be playing in their most comfortable positions.
makes sense to me.
however, powell called the shots and we got 3 points.
Think it is ridiculous to suggest that Solly is "wasted" at left back. He is first and foremost a defender, and wherever he is asked to play - his objective is to prevent the other team attacking our goal. He does this just as competently at left back as he does at right back. Not really sure how the "wasted" bit comes into it. Think some are just thinking up of random things to back up an argument which isn't really getting across very well.
I just think that CP, who is a fledgling manager that is learning, needs to learn a lot bloody quicker.
Yeah I mean it's November already, geezer's had nearly three months to suss out the division...
How long does it take to learn that if both your centre midfielders are absolutely knackered and are giving the ball away cheaply + letting players run past them that you need to make a change?

he's obviously not 'wasted' but you cant suggest he's as good LB as he is RB???...things defensively like body shape and turning make a difference regarding what side your playing on. Attacking wise, you have crossing and passing ability hampered if its on your weaker foot.
I said a couple of weeks ago im slightly concerned that it may slow his development.
its obviously difficult for powell when people are picking up knocks each week and im not digging him out before im on the end of a 'Its ridiculous!!!' rant.
Being a football manager is a stressful job, being the manager of Charlton Athletic at the moment has particular stresses. Yeah I know, if you don't like the heat and all that...However the impact of stress can be funny. You think, you try, you work all the hours, problems gnaw away at you, but you face them anyway, you have it on your mind the whole time more or less. Sometimes your body shouts at you despite how hard working, talented, and brave you are at working, and dealing with the problems, despite how consciously uncomplaining you are. You get more colds and flu, aches and pains are worse, you simply don't sleep, or if you do you wake early, and can't settle. Stuff like this is going to show in your body language whatever showman skills you have. I really hope that Chris has close personal working relationships at the club who show empathy and care towards him, as he does to others. Chris is a man of great integrity, the first to take responsibility, the last to complain. I hope there are people out there who look out for Chris, watch his back, and carry some of the load. He would do the same in return.

Do you really, really think that if, as you say, they were both "knackered" Chris Powell hasn't noticed that? On the other hand do you know that a lot of apparently fit players are sent out carrying all kinds of knocks and the manager has to take that into consideration re subs right from the off? Haynes being a case in point. I am absolutely certain CP knew he would not be able to go the full 90 minutes, so that is one sub that he really has to plan for. I believe Cort was carrying a knock too, which he'd have been watching.
ValleyGary has hit the nail on the head there. Solly, in my opinion, is a decent LB but a solid & promising RB.
WSS, perhaps you could be my assistant when I take over? Or you could have a grown up debate with me as to how CP can improve as a manager, and CAFC can improve as a team - surely thats what we both want?
Do you not agree that Jackson or Pritchard should have been replaced due to tiredness?
'Do you really, really think that if, as you say, they were both "knackered" Chris Powell hasn't noticed that' I would rather that he hadnt noticed so carried on..... to notice and not act is criminal.
I certainly wouldn't have replaced either of them with Green who is a defensive liability and it wasn't the right situation to throw on one of the kids (and they don't play in the right position). Maybe bring on Taylor and move Dervite in midfield but that would've made us even more immobile and retreat further than we did.
WSS - Hollands should have been brought on much earlier is the point im trying to make. He came on far too late to get into the game to help out the team

Hollands could have come on earlier but to replace which one? Pritchard or Jackson?
Fact is that we conceded twice when Hollands game on. All Powell's fault for making the wrong sub but he is a very inexperienced manager who knows far less than me about football so I'll let him off : - (

Did not go in today, players gone in to warm down."
Not sure he should be admitting on air that he is playing hookie!!! ;-)
