  • Why's he wearing dark glasses?
  • think there is a bit of 2+2=5 here

  • Well if the board want to piss off the fans they should just get rid of CP and put Dennis Wise in charge. They'd have to be pretty dim if they didn't get any sort of message from this evening.

Dennis Wise and Jiminez have fallen out and Wise is taking Jiminez to court.
  • Then again after Walsall at home his tunnel jump was very restrained.
  • After 2 down so early i really felt he and the club were right up the swanny, not surprised given our form he isn't that happy - hope this win can inject a bit of confidence

  • We just conceded two in injury time making a solid win look nervy. Maybe after the run we've had at home perhaps he didn't want to celebrate too much knowing there's a lot of hard work ahead still

    Yeap agree !
We're Charlton for god sake, allways do things the hard way ! And CP knows that .
  • The players looked like they had lost when they went off also

If you see the final 2 Cardiff goals on tv, you'll see why....shocking!

If you'd seen my body language at 5-4 it wasn't joyous I can tell you....
Exactly Dev, shockin goals for the last two, he may even have been pissed off with himself for taking
Stephens off because the 4th came from nobody picking the central midfielder up, although watching it on the box it was Jacko's man. Hamer was even more pissed off he couldn't get off the pitch quick enough he was livid.

There were a few comments as we came out the ground about how flat people felt going from a 5-2 hammering to holding on for dear life at 5-4.

I interviewed CP tonight after the game, he seemed upbeat with us in the tunnel and was in fine form with the written media in the Press Room, would not read too much into the body language.

wrong thread I know but the commentary on player has been much improved the last couple of games Pete.
  • We're lucky there wasn't two more mins cos we could have lost it!
That was evil in there and when the 4th official put up 6 mins injury time I was still (small) nervous
I felt deflated and SCP looked it too
I bought 6 poxy chocolate bars to calm my nerves down
I went in the club shop dazed , it was as empty as it is after a defeat, bought some wrong sized stuff for my eldest ....my body language was not good either

Still I loved the sickness of it all !!

    Good to hear Shrew, thanks
  • I was one that commented on CP's body language after the Borough game but last night he looked a bit more animated on the touchline I have to say and I know this sounds a bit petty but I was also pleased to see him in tracksuit and Footie boots rather than the nice designer suit don't know why no logic to this he just looked like he meant business a bit more.

The body language thing he needs to work on when things get tricky not go into his shell but really start to gee the players up, this may not be in his character but it's needed so that the players can gain confidence that he is with them. All quite subtle but if it can be noticed from the stand I guess it can be seen from the pitch.
  • Before PeteF's reassuring comments (thanks Pete), I wasn't so concerned about SCP's body language. Our home form had been so poor so it would have been out of place, and disrespectful to the opposition, to over-indulge the goal celebrations. The job is never done is it, and I think it was more of a relief for him that he'd coached and cajoled a stirring comeback. In SCP we trust!
  • He was probably seething about the shambolic defending early on.
  • I've hardly been on here recently - due to just being busy; however yesterday I sensed a strange feeling in the air regarding CP. For 10+ minutes straight after going 1-0 down all that was being sung in the North Upper was 'Chrissy Powell's Red and White Army' - even after going 2-0 down it was sung at times. There was something that struck me about how much it was sung - solid at times. Naturally, I came on here to see if it had been organised - and I saw the 100% support banner with chris powells face in it.

I'm very concerned about the rumours, I just hope everyone is taking note of what we're saying and singing; and that goes for CP too. I can only imagine what it feels like to have thousands of people singing your praise (literally) whilst you're losing so quickly..!
  • I think he was just as drained as the rest of us.

  • His body language couldn't have been too bad at Half time ie when it mattered could it? The players certainly responded.
I could even be devil's advocate and say most managers get more demonstrative when they are about to be given the chop. Can the dissectors also tell me about Curbs body language then
Too many people looking for bad news I'm afraid
  • Don't believe it is an issue ... so he didn't celebate as much as usual? Probably because he knows it's been a tough start to the season and one win doesn't alleviate the pressure ... yet. He just doesn't believe there is anything to celebrate yet ... give it a couple more wins to reduce the pressure and you will see the old Chrissy back.
  • When we went 2-0 down my mate asked if I thought SCP would be sacked. I said if the board had any brains they would realise that even if we were to go down, he is the best man to take us up again and reminded him that is what happened when the board kept faith with Curbs when we got relegate from the Prem first time.

This display shows just how good he is in getting the best out of players. We were lucky with injuries last year, fingers crossed that things must get better on that front soon this season.

If press reports are true then the board are trying to back him with loan signings so that is a good sign. Lets hope that last nights performance steadys their nerves as well.

Special mention to the covered end support last night. There was hardly a droped note when their first two went in and it was taken up by most of the East and West stand as well. The signing of CP 's red and white army at the end of the match was sung by one and all. If the board were not impressed by that they can sod off and leave SCP here.
  • I am still very cautious about Powell as a manager overall... Yes, he is a club legend. Yes, he is possibly the nicest guy in football. Yes, he seems to have man management down to a tee.

    But.....

Tactically and team selection wise, im worried.

To me, four players were played out of position last night which is worrying when the 'only' real headache is the leftback position.

Subsitutions should have happened much earlier, Jackson & Pritchard were both flagging desperately. Hollands on for either 10 minutes earlier would have sured us up - giving him a chance to get into the game also.

We were lucky in the end not to walk away with 1 point, which at 0-2 down is a decent result.... but 5-2 up at home?

Saw on another thread the 'Lennie' debate.... I think CP needed (needs) to appoint someone experienced on the bench along side him pulling the strings, between them CP & AD theres not enough nous.
  • Even the campsites are full at Bristol, ggrrr, I will get there somehow!

Let me turn your argument on its head.

We suffered a debilitating defeat on Saturday and then had to face the league leaders. Two left backs are injured and the option he tried on Saturday of Kerkar - so as to return Solly to his preferred position - was found wanting. And Cardiff have a major threat on their right flank. He has not been allowed to bring on a LB on emergency loan. His overall choices on the night are weaker than on the same night last season. And to repeat, he's facing the leaders, a division higher.

And after 90 minutes, the scratch side he's put out, some of them like Haynes (and possibly Cort) still not fully fit, is leading 5-2 FIVE BLOODY TWO after being two goals down.

I don't call that a good manager. I call that a bloody miracle worker.

  • Prague, I dont disagree that its an amazing result given all of the circumstances. But I believe that without the tactical nous that we are missing, we will lose some (potentially) vital points.

'Cardiff have a major threat on their right flank' Cardiff are league leaders, they will be a major threat full stop. Solly is not comfortable LB, Morrison is not comfortable RB and Dervite breaks up a good partnership of MM & LC. Why not put, for example, Dervite LB - so only 1 player is uncomfortable.

'the scratch side he's put out, some of them like Haynes (and possibly Cort) still not fully fit' Haynes not fit? Why start him RW with Green on the bench if hes not fit? Why not recall Wagstaff?

'I don't call that a good manager. I call that a bloody miracle worker' 'Miracles' are nice and give us something to cheer about but they are few and far between. Why not focus on getting some regualr results first.

I am certain that earlier substitutions would have resulted in the 5-2 rout we all wanted.... not the 5-4 panic we got.
  • You seem annoyed we won. Or at least that Powell lead us to the victory.
  • Not at all WSS. Anything but.

I am highlighting my concerns which I believe, will haunt us over the course of the season. Not being able to see that Jackson and Pritchard were blowing out of their arses for the last 15 minutes is a worry.

What does annoy me, is the fact that we won the game seems to mean to many people on here that we - be it fans, players or manager were perfection on the night, throughout the night?

In any job, business, life situation - you need to analyse to make improvements right?

  • He sounds fine on Talksport right now, and planning for Sunday
